Whew! Exciting and the tension really built throughout the chapter. Even the opening scene where Steve is looking at the file - very real to the show. I could see that scene playing out.

Steve, he's such a hothead! Good thing there were others in the office to hold him back. I can just feel his anger through your words. (Surely there are severe penalties for striking a fellow police officer?) And that tattoo! Steve recognizes the tattoo. A small detail, but it is enough to further the investigation. Good chapter with Jeff feeling torn by his line of questioning, but proceding anyway, hoping to clear his son. And Jeannie is left feeling uneasy from the whole interview and is keeping the details from Mike. This is a very realistic assessment of her inner emotions and the conflict she feels. Also really like this:

Maybe it's Steve. She marvelled at how this thought somehow chased away all the frightening images and made her feel safe.

It's so good to know that Jeannie has some good friends (one in particular) and a strong, smart father. These Hartmann guys will be for the high jump when they find out what's going on!

Good chapter to move this story along. And it leaves me feeling very uncomfortable. I sense only trouble ahead and I fear that Jeff is going to drag Jeannie through the mud. I like how this is panning out. You're establishing some rare conflict between Mike and Steve. With Hartman inserting himself in the middle and with his mission to protect his son, he'll be a solid antagonist for the pair. Can't wait to see more!
