More often than not Sherlock, in what ever world he is written in, is a strange person. His very strangeness is what I see is the very reason we are intrigued by him. It's not that we like him, because he is not very likeable, and does little to change that. His actions often alienate those around him. We want to believe that he loves Irene for that would give him a human dimension. He is like Dr. House, a first rate diagnostician. We may want him for a doctor so that he can cure us, but has a bedside manner of a mortician. Even Vicadin can't cure the pain of his soul.

I do not know how successful Watson will be in trying to make Sherlock human. He only comes alive to solve a problem, once the riddle is solved he reverts back to his isolation from people.
