I have an idea for what the next chapter should be. You dont have to use it if you dont want to. But if you do, i want credit. So heres chapter 5: After changing clothes and locking the house, Percy climbed into his car and followed Charlie’s directions to his destination. He turned on the radio, because silence made him uncomfortable. Humming to “Tic Toc” by Kesha, Percy pulled up to the double doors at the front of the school, he inwardly groaned. People here obviously don’t know what the word spacious means. He could guess that there were about 500 students here tops. Small schools (if any at all) weren't Percy’s cup of tea. Then he realized that he hadn't even gone school shopping yet! Just as he began to stress about the lack of time he had to resolve his problem, he saw a kid on a motorcycle pull up not far behind him. When the rider removed his helmet, Percy recognized him as the overprotective guy from the beach. Luckily he was wearing a shirt this time, because Percy didn't think the school staff would appreciate it too much if swimsuit models started patrolling the grounds.
Finally the last bell rang and students of various ages began to pour from the doors. The dude on the bike began to look around for someone in particular, and Percy was guessing it was Bella. He saw her as one of the last people to leave. She was holding hands with pretty boy, which hurt Percy to see but didn’t surprise him at all. The couple saw the motorcycle man before they did him. Bella seemed delighted whereas Edward looked anything but.
“Jake!” she exclaimed. She raced over to him, leaving Edward not far behind, and was net with a hug. Jake looked at her boyfriend smugly over Bella’s shoulder as he murmured to her in greeting. When they broke apart Jake held her at a arms distance and began to talk to her with a worried look about his face. This was when Percy had decided to intervene. He already had enough issues to deal with, and didn’t need to have “Jake” telling Bella about their friendly little meeting.
“Bella!” he called, honking his horn as he did so. She whirled around and met his gaze with one of shock and surprise. He motioned her over and after saying goodbye to both Jake and Eddie, she trotted over. The demigod noticed that Jake was trying to have a one-way stare down. The kid’s face held worry, warning, and maybe… panic?
“Percy, what are you doing here?” she asked, diverting his attention back to her. Bella was taken off guard because her cousin didn’t seem like the guy who hangs around school after hours, considering the fact that he didn’t really want to go in the first place.
“I always like to watch for teenage girls coming from school” he joked. “But seriously, Charlie said your truck wasn’t working and wanted me to pick you up. Also, I wanted to get a good look at my new school.” Not that I haven’t been a new student before he thought. Six or seven times isn’t exactly what I call a small amount.
“Well to be honest, there aren’t many new kids that come around, but I was one of them at one point. It wasn’t so bad.” Bella replied with a smile. This was a lie. Bella remembered how lonely she was before she met Edward. Sure, she had Eric, Jessica, Mike, and Angela but she never felt as if she completely fit in. She hoped things would be different for Percy. From what she knew about him, he deserved an easy life now. One that would make up for the years he lost.
“Yeah maybe” he said, returning her smile with a shadow of his once signature lopsided grin.
(At the Swan residence)
Percy had explained to Bella that he would need to get school supplies if he had wanted to be prepared. Bella had obliged and after half an hour of getting binders, notebooks, paper, and pencils, they came home. Percy had refused Bella’s offer a new backpack after minutes of pleading for two reasons. One was that he needed his durable one to keep extra weapons inside. Hey, it wouldn’t surprise him at this point if he was attacked at school. And two, he didn’t want Bella to spend any unnecessary money on him. He might have gotten a new one if he was paying, but Bella insisted.
So now they were at home; Bella had insisted that he cut his hair for tomorrow and he shave his face. After mere minutes of disagreeing, Percy bent. Bella cut his hair so that it was still wavy, but not in his eyes. When he had finished shaving, Bella handed him a hand mirror, and he had to say, she did a good job. Now she was cooking dinner and Percy was in his new room, prepping his bag for the morning. He placed his shopping bag on his new bed and looked around. The walls were bare concrete and so were the floors. On the bed was an old blanket he found in the living room. He was yet to find a comforter and rug but he figured that he would get one eventually. He looked down at the plastic bag with the store’s brand name on it with a sigh. He hated going to new schools. He reluctantly began to pack his bag, making sure he put his weapons in a different pocket than his books. He then took inventory of what he had. 4 binders, 3 notebooks, a package of both pens and pencils, a calculator (someone with his practice would need it), 2 small daggers he had from his third year at camp, a bag of ambrosia, and a small sack of drachmas.
Just as he was going to lay down on his bed, someone knocked on the front door. It was only 5:30, two hours before Charlie was due home. Anyway, he has a key so he wouldn’t need to knock, right? Percy heard Bella answer the door and muffled voices came from the upstairs level of the house.
When he finally reached the last stair and entered the kitchen, he found Bella leaning against the counter near the sink. A pixie-like girl that had hair resembling Thalia was at the opposite end of the room and they were in the middle of an argument when Percy entered.
“But Bells, you promised me that we would go shopping today-“ the pixie turned to him, the look of disappointment being replaced by one of fear.
“Um, hey” Percy said awkwardly, sticking out his hand. Her facial expression was throwing him off slightly. “I’m Percy, Bella’s cousin, I don’t think we met.”
“Oh,” Bella blushed “I’m sorry! Alice, this is my cousin Percy who will be staying here for a while. Percy, this is my friend and Edward’s sister Alice.”
“It- It’s nice to meet you, Percy.” Alice stuttered. She wouldn’t meet his or Bella’s eyes, seeming a bit nervous. For what reason Percy had no idea. “Listen Bella,” she said as she grabbed her coat. “You don’t have to go shopping, we can do it another day. I just remembered I have to go home anyway.” At that she rather quickly dashed out the door and to her car, leaving without another word or shaking Percy’s hand. She sped down the street and out of sight.
“Well that was odd” Bella said. “She never runs off like that. Although, with Alice, you can never tell.” It was then that Charlie came home, saying the action had been at a low level, so he decided to go home early. Bella still needed to finish making dinner and told the guys that it would be another hour until they could eat. She shooed them out of the kitchen and continued her work. Charlie turned on the News. He seemed very distant, which was very much out of character. Blowing it off, Percy had decided that he would walk in the woods. Maybe this time he wouldn’t be attacked. But as Percy walked he couldn’t shake the feeling that between Edward and his weird habits, Alice leaving oh so quickly, and Jake being so worried for Bella; that Forks was an unusual town, an unusual town indeed. I can’t help but think that tomorrow will be an interesting day…
(At the Cullen’s house)
When Alice came home a few minutes after leaving, she made sure that her thoughts were very loud so that her brother, and only her brother, could hear. Sure enough, when she came into the house, there he was sitting at his piano with a worried expression about his face.
“What is it Alice?” he said. “You said you needed to talk to me about something important!” Alice thought all of what she experienced just a few minutes ago. She told him about meeting the Swan’s newest resident and how he looked very, very similar to the person she saw with those wolves. When she was finished Edward sighed and ran his hand through his bronze-like hair.
“I met him as well” he stated. “He did have the same eyes as the man you saw, but that doesn’t mean anything. I didn’t really get to make much comparison because I didn’t see him that much. All I can remember is that he almost made me lose control of my hunger; he smelled so good.”
“You’re not telling me you didn’t sense the aura of power he held?” Alice asked. “I mean, I can’t really put a finger on it, but he just seemed to have this easy sense of authority about him. It’s as if he’s royalty or something!”
“He is going to school with us starting tomorrow, maybe we can keep an eye on him” her brother suggested. Just then they heard Emmet’s car approaching the house from down the street. He and Rose had been out on a date and were just getting back.
“We can’t tell anyone about this conversation Edward!” Alice thought frantically.
“Wait why not?” Edward questioned.
“Because we don’t know how the others will handle this. Dangerous or not, this is Bella’s cousin and I don’t think she would be too happy with us if we scared her family away!” It was then they both heard Emmet pull up the drive and Alice dashed up to her room and out of sight. As their brother bounded into the room, Edward pretended to be busy playing Bella’s lullaby. But his mind was elsewhere. I can’t help but think that tomorrow will be an interesting day…
(Earlier that day; Charlie’s car)
After making sure that Percy would be picking up Bella later in the day, Charlie began to make his way to the station in his cruiser. He had to deal with a very urgent case. He felt better knowing his daughter wasn’t spending all her time with Pretty Boy. It was unhealthy and she may be heartbroken again if he were to leave.
