Impressive… most impressive ;) Had to smuggle a printout into the office to finish reading. Seriously, this is good literature, not fanfic-grade. Way better than a lot of the EU drivel a la Kevin Anderson, Dave Wolverton, Kathy Tyers & Co. (and heaven forbid, Vonda McIntyre and KK Rusch – who let them near Star Wars?) that eventually put me off most EU books except Zahn’s, Stackpole’s, Allston’s, and a handful of others. Great style and pace, amazing detail throughout, and beautiful battle plan/action descriptions. To me, writing military-tech sci-fi seems like the greatest possible challenge (but I love reading and watching it). Excellent characterizations; you picked intriguing characters and fleshed them out well. Your Thrawn is very intense, intelligent, and charismatic, totally in line with Zahn’s creation, and yet less haughty and charmingly unschooled in social interaction due to younger age – and it is fun to see him taking a romantic interest. He takes a serious amount of IQ to write! Wynssa-Syal is believable as a smart and decisive woman with hardly a hint of the damsel-in-distress (her sprained-ankle scenes reminded me of an unconventional personal favourite, Children of the Jedi by Barbara Hambly; it has few fans but I confess to being one). I always liked the idea of Syal’s pairing with Fel but concede that Thrawn makes for a much more interesting suitor. Only question: what would her age have been? She would have had to be really young, and yet it seems like she is a big star already. Minor point anyway, and probably OK timeline-wise. Theel and Rory seem quite real, and Rory is endearing (Theel is the only one that seems to waver a bit too much between a dim-witted thug, an inept schemer, and an accomplished a$$-kisser, but is still fairly believable). Your portrayal of Piett makes me sorry for his death in ROTJ – the man seems smart and decent, kind of what they later made Pellaeon into. His journey of discovery with Thrawn is a joy to read. The Two-OneBee has a lot of personality for a med droid, but I liked his lines. The only real fault I could find, in fact, is that you did not continue the story ;) but thank you anyway for the wonderful part you have written. An instant favourite!

Please, please pick the story up. Some of us are still lurking here, waiting for continuation...

Really superb work - it reflects developed skill, self-discipline, imagination, and a terrific flare and sense of style. Should you ever be "feeling it," we'd love to read more of this. It seemed to be accelerating, not winding down! Thank goodness you got rid of Corlag! (I hope he stays down.) Your characteriztion of Thrawn is very fine indeed - I wholeheartedly approve. I find myself reading about your original characters with equal interest! It's such a treat to enjoy some writing this finely crafted on a fan subject; the shared sense of context makes this form of communicating, where you do all the work and we get to enjoy it, extremely satisfying.
