Reviews for The Widening Gyre
Krishyana 2/20/13 . chapter 1
I am so hooked to your story! I love it! One reviewer mentioned how you captured the personality, humor, humility, and deeper intellect of Alistair so wonderfully, and I totally agree. I am intrigued by the nightmare of Evelyn and am curious as to what happened and how she will come, if at all, to tell Alistair. I love the hints of affection you are planting in the story. Please write more!

I also like the dark firery-ness of your Cousland character and am still trying to figure out her situation. I think it creates great tension in the story. I like how you put some Leliana, Sten, and Morrigan dialogue too.

I enjoy your dialogue, pace, and descriptions, they are easy to follow. Many times I giggled out loud.

What is going to happen at the tower? What will Evelyn do with Rhiannon's challenge to prove her wrong? How will Evelyn and Alistair's affections and companionship grow after all they've been through?

Impatiently waiting! Looking forward to more updates :)

So you chose to give me a heartbreak/joy/heartbreak sandwich? What did I ever do to you? Because the conversation between Alistair and Evelyn was so sad. And then we have all that amazing banter and THEN the nightmare. What the hell happened back at the Tower?

Granted, there is some more lovely banter but it can't put my mind at ease now. Whatever happened at the Tower and to Anders (?) seems to be a major part of Evelyn's psyche and I wonder if going back there is such a good idea.

This was your best chapter yet, I think. Please update again soon!

Wow. A demon possessing a wolf, that's a scary thought. That thing was scary as hell. Loved the combat and Evelyn showing just who's in charge here and why. Very nice.

Interesting conversation between Evelyn and Rhiannon, I think I'm coming around to trusting her. She really seems to have good intentions at heart.

I also like the hints at Evelyn's blossoming feelings towards Alistair. They seem to be well matched and I'd love to see them together.

Lovely. So Evelyn has a past love waiting for her at the Tower? Given that Cullen doesn't have long hair, I'm assuming it's Anders? Interesting!

I'm still a bit wary of this enigmatic Cousland. (One of the darkest I have encountered) I don't doubt her good intentions but she seems so troubled...and that little hint at attraction to Alistair...I don't want Evelyn having to fight a friend for her man...

I am loving this more and more!

So, I'm late with this but OMG!

This gem:

"Not a difficult feat with one so short." Passing by the two, the tall Qunari that went by 'Sten' interrupted Evelyn's tale. He did not pause to gauge her reaction, however, and so missed her pink tongue darting out to point at him childishly.

"Okay, fine, revised to 'thigh high' for all you giants," Evelyn continued grumpily

Oh God, that was so perfect! I'm still giggling!

I love the conversation between Rhia and Evelyn. My girl's trust is hard to gain but Evelyn is on the right track. Oh, and Alistair's protectiveness is sooooo adorable. :) The conversation between them flows so lyrically, it's all there: Budding trust and affections, stark solitude and blossoming security and...secrets. Quite a few of them!

And then the gals showed up! Leliana & Rhia in cohorts, who'd have thought? But it surely works.

And the following banter is utterly hilarious. I love how they're bonding, despite their many differences. And did I sense a little spark between Alistair and Rhia there? Hmmmmmmmm, this is gonna be full of feels, I just know it!

Excellent chapter. On to the next one!

Oh, I love the Amell/Alistair pairing! And yours seems to be such a sweet, gentle one, yet not lacking in the power department either! You captured Alistair's voice flawlessly, one of the few authors I've seen who capture both his humor/humility AND the bitterness/intelligence lurking underneath years of neglect and loneliness.

This is a quite fiery Cousland you've got there. She has me worried, that one. Not that I think she's evil or anything but her behavior is so erratic and cold...

Update again soon, please.

Welcome back another story from one of my favorite gamers. Love the description about Evelyn's nightmare to Rhiannon's introduction. The way she reacted to her rescue is from a woman who's pramatic and a bit desprerate to find her brother, and when she joins Evelyn's group she's all business, it will take time for her to get to know them, but this will be an interesting trip. Not to mention what Evelyn said about her past. Love to see what happens next keep it up

Ahhhhhhhhh, where to begin? I absolutely loved this from beginning to end.

Evelyn's nightmare was so real, so heartrending...it really got to me. And I both smiled and aaaaaaaaaaawed at Alistair consoling her. It was bittersweet, funny, endearing, perfectly.

And then we head straight into action. Rhia's introduction was achingly beautiful, the perfect combination of heartache, snark, feels and moving tenderness. Alistair is his sweet if slightly out of bounds self and Evelyn's pleas would move stones. It's so beautiful. And of course, my girl is all practical and right down to business. You captured her voice beautifully.

Brilliant beginning. Can't wait to see more! And thank you so much for including Rhia in your tale. (She'll never thank you, so it's only proper that I do so in her stead!)

So...MOAR! :P
