Chantal is in so deep. Now that he's announced their engagement to the king surely their is no going back - correct? Oh that Earl is a sly one. My question is whether he plans on taking her on solely as a partner so he has a Lady Rochester, or if he intends to make her his wife legally and bodily? Do you catch my drift? After all, she has said she is unable to enjoy such attentions.

No need to be nervous, this chapter is a treasure! The lovely Earl is having just a little too much fun, throwing things in Ms. Gardor's face, and sometimes at Chantal's expense, and especially in front of the king. But it was lovely to see him jealous. I almost felt he gave her the necklace and announced her as the future Lady of Rochester in front of the king because he knew she couldn't object. He seemed a little hurt when he had to explain that the necklace was a family heirloom.

At the end, Chantal is still insisting that his plan is backfiring against her. But he seemed a little insecure and afraid that she was not going to come back to him when he came back to her for the third time. These two just need to give up the pretenses and admit they are crazy about each other!

Well played Earl. Everything is just going crazy right now. Feelings are everywhere, emotions being played. WHOA.

First of all: He said it again! (EEks!) :D. And while I'm not totally surprised that he had some scheme going with regards to the marriage issue, I really enjoyed how it played out! Also: Chantal has some pretty clear insight; I hope she treads carefully with it (our Earl seems quick to anger when emotionally threatened - at least in some of your other works).

There are some really great lines in here, Love - and the tension is perfect!
