Reviews for as sunshine falls on the wretched

Well at least this Bilbo wouldn't be so shocked by a bunch of dwarves at his door! Loved it! Poor Bilbo thinking he'd never see Kili again

This was so cute. I liked it. I felt happy that Bilbo in this story found his happy ending.
Black Hawk 4/22/13 . chapter 3
OMG I am so happy that Kili came back! His departure was just so heart-breaking, as was Bilbo's grief. It was all so palpable. I love this AU that you've created. I'm sure a voice somewhere in your imagination has considered writing a follow-up... know that I second that voice! From the first paragraph onwards, I knew I was in the hands of a capable author. Thank YOU for giving me this wonderful journey, and reminding me of just how unexpectedly our lives can change for the better (even if we can't see it at first).
Black Hawk 4/22/13 . chapter 2
"It was Kíli's way, dragging you along without your consent or knowledge, until you were dancing joyfully without knowing how you'd found your way there, and only a pair of dark, laughing eyes to thank." What a beautiful summary of their love! You have captures and expressed Bilbo's affection so well in this chapter. I am so torn between wanting Bilbo to keep Kili and wanting Kili to be reunited with Fili!
Black Hawk 4/22/13 . chapter 1
This is so charming! I love how Bilbo has reluctantly grown attached to the little guy, and how that relationship is helping him find acceptance and friendship in town. And little Kili is too adorable! A lot of writers fall into the trap of writing children and toddlers as if they're just miniature adults who talk funny, but you have the mannerisms down which makes it such a delight to read!

I AM CRYING.
Fantasy's Magic 4/7/13 . chapter 3
Jeezes. I am not an emotional person at all, but holy crap, when you described Kili and Bilbo's parting I actually felt ready to cry! This whole story was absolutely fantastic, and I really, REALLY enjoyed reading it :) Thanks for giving a happy ending, by the way, otherwise I don't think I'd have been able to stop those coming tears.

Great story :)

I'll tell you this; I don't usually cry when I read, especially not over fanfiction! But the other reviewer was right in saying that this piece is more like a short story than a fanfic and it conjured up so many emotions within me that I don't know how to express them in short words. Let me just start by saying that Bilbo/Kili 'family' fics are just adorable and I'm planning to read all of them if there are any more available. You got their characterization down quite nicely and I can easily picture all the heartwarming scenes happening in my head. While reading the story, I had to recheck multiple times the estimated height of Baby Kili as the dwarves are short and their little toddlers must be, well, littler. xD

Anyway, I love how you wrote Bilbo's change in character from a miserable and lonely tight-fisted Hobbit (kind of like Scrooge) to a happy and generous person, and how it took a wild and energetic Dwarfling to change him. I also like how Kili would regularly ask for his Fee as that just shows how close the two brothers are which gives me another reason to fangirl! The scenes in which Kili made friends with the Hobbit children were sweet too. I find it endearing the way Kili tried to communicate with Bilbo using hand gestures to replace his limited vocabulary and how day by day, he started learning more words albeit using them in broken sentences like, "I back!" _

The inevitable separation scene between Bilbo and Kili was heartbreaking and made my eyes well up with tears which, like I said, is a rare occurrence on this site, so well done on that. I felt really sad that his birthday party which was supposed to be a joyous day for him fell short of that. Imagining little Kili wailing and howling for Bilbo was tearjerking and I kept hoping that they would see each other again.

The ending with their reunion made me squeal, "Yay!" and as a reader, I felt so happy for them. I love how Bilbo became an annual temporary guardian for Kili and Fili, the two Dwarf princes and how they would come back every spring a little taller and eventually, I hope, all grown up (like the brothers in the movie, maybe). *sniff sniff* That ending does not correlate with the canon version (at least in the movie) as Kili would be calling him Bilbo and not Mister Boggins and I know that this is an AU but I sometimes wish that THIS is canon instead. It's just so much happier!

Thanks for writing this story. I've already added this to my Favourites list and even though there are hundreds of fics on it, I wish that this site has 'Stories I like' and 'Favourite Stories' to differentiate them OR an extra 'Top Favourite Stories' for the ones that really are my favourites - like yours - and a separate list for other stories which I like to a certain extent or favourite-ed because I was too lazy to write a review for them (I know, I'm like Bilbo pre-Kili, except I'm stingy with reviews, lol).
