Delas 2003-08-12 . chapter 1Wa I love it! It's rather well written, I must say. It's... catchy, ya know? I can always tell if its a good story or not by how much I want the next chapter. And since I REALLY INSANELY want the next chapter, that makes your fic REALLY INSANELY good. ^_^ I hope you update in the near future, because I can tell already that I'll love this fic. |
Guardian1 2003-02-23 . chapter 1Now -that- was something. I've never read an FF7 fic before that just sat the characters down, natural and easy, and had them talk; I loved Barret's and Vincent's metal-appendage high-five, and Cid being Cid, and Cloud actually having a personality echoing from the game - and your characterization of Aeris is particularly interesting. Tactile, adorable, and distinctly otherworldly in an almost creepy way at times. Definitely an Ancient.
I'm definitely going to have to sod off and read all your other FF7 fanfics now. ^_~ |
Celebanna 2002-08-12 . chapter 1Jules, once again a very nice piece of work. Interesting characterizations: I really liked that Of Vincent and Caith Sith's. Got any other FFVII ones? :) |
Starlight 2002-08-07 . chapter 1 wonderful!! I really hope you continue with this...I think you got the characters dead on |

Jason Golec 2002-08-07 . chapter 1You know, I have always been rather repulsed by the idea of fanfics. To me, they seemed like nothing more than the immature ramblings of writers so incompetent that they cannot even create their own original ideas. So, in an attempt to cure myself of this eternal boredom, I found FanFiction.net and set out to read the worst trash I could find.
Naturally, I headed straight for the FFVII fics.
As I was browsing through the heap, my eye was caught by the ominously simple title: "Tent". "Oh ho!" I thought. "Now here's something that holds great potential to warp and twist one of my favorite games into a cheap, juvenile romp through the perverted fantasies of a horomone-drunk teenager!" Suffice it to say, I was chomping at the bit to find any evidence to justify my prejudices.
To my amazement, I was greatly disappointed.
If that's not enough of a compliment, allow me to go a bit farther. I had always believed that more should have been done with the cast from FFVII. While the game's script was pathetically shallow, it was enough to create fairly compelling characters and hinted at a degree of complexity and depth not before seen in a video game. Even in games today, the industry has not surpassed the storytelling and character development of FFVII, despite the fact that the resources are available to do so. So, to read a piece of fiction such as this, where the characters I once loved have been completely fleshed out...I was dumbstruck.
I have long been both a jaded reader and gamer; few modern authors know what it takes to write a readable story and game designers have actually taken steps backward from where they were a few years ago. But despite this, "Tent" somehow reawakened the giddy nerd inside of me that I thought was dead and gone. To see the personalities and relationships of these characters realized to such a degree...to see them presented so vividly...
Sigh...
If the gaming industry was full of creative people like Jules, video gaming would be far closer to being recognized as a legitimate storytelling medium, rather than a time-wasting distraction for children. To be honest, this story has opened my eyes, forcing me to realize that fanfics are, themselves, a legitimate storytelling medium.
Well, I have rambled long enough. I will end this by saying thank you, Jules. Being able to revisit Cloud and the crew on such an intimate level was a tremendous pleasure. I can only hope that you find time to continue writing so that I can gladly make time to read your stories. |
The Pezman 2002-08-07 . chapter 1Dammit! Stop making me look bad! |
 moondust5 2002-08-07 . chapter 1Wow, this is really good!
You got the characters just the way I imagined that they would be. I especially like the way you showed how Reeve and Tseng controlled Cait.
Please continue :)

Yucca 2002-08-07 . chapter 1Sooo, do we get more? Please? I loved the conversation in the tent, and the bit about Cait. I hope you continue this, and the Raptor Crest, and the Seer, and all of that. =) |
