Ow... I've just been reading happy cheerful fics. Now this was evil. Now I'm not feeling happy or cheerful. But that's how it is, no-one notices Neville. No best friend. Just roommates, housemates, classmates. I know they're better than nothing, but sometimes you just need someone who'd randomly go with you for a walk, to the movie, to a bar, to play something or just to chat. Or study. Or something. Yes, I know, I'm sounding pathetic. I just found myself there. :P I'm a sad case - must be because of all the fanfics I read and write. Yep. Must be.
Anyway. I love the way you wrote this. It was beautiful. Not much of Neville-fics around, is there? Should be, though. He's a damn good character. I'm always hoping Rowling would give him some more self-respect in the books.
Let's hope he'll find someone in the last book. :)

The naked emotion in this just - just hurt, you know? The utter resignation. -hugs Neville- You've just gotta love him to pieces, haven't you? I want to comfort him now! You've captured his sadness perfectly. Because he is, in canon, isn't he? Harry gets the fame, at least, and gets to grieve for his parents, while Neville gets stuck in limbo with endless pain, unrealistic expectations from his grandmother, ignored by everyone, and persecuted by Snape. Quiet grief. That's what you've captured; though I imagine that Neville wouldn't be Neville without heaving a sigh after his moment of self-pity, squaring his shoulders, and soldiering on.

Yeah, I have to agree with that. Except for one thing: Hermione and Ginny? I personally think Hermione's a bit left out: while she might be best friends with Harry and Ron, she doesn't have the bond that they have (I'm not saying she's a tag along, but the bond between Harry and Ron..woah), but she doesn't really fit in with Ginny either. Yeah, they're really good friends and all, but I don't think their as close as they seem.
Another thing I'd like to point out: the only other (that I can find) loner in the HP series: Percy. In the Weasley family, there's Molly and Arthur, Bill and Charlie, Fred and George, Ron and Ginny...and then there's Percy.
Not that that was relevant at all - its just a curiosity.
Anyway, love the fic, look forward to reading others of yours (although most are slash...grr...I'm not a fan of slash fics)

I have always felt that way. I've always felt sorry for Neville but then felt sorry for feeling sorry for him. I just wish he didn't have to be pitied. I would love for him to find his spot, his someone before the end of the series. This was good. Definitely something that needed to be said for our poor Neville.

Aw! Poor Neville. He's always been one of my favorite characters. I never really considered he and Hermione as best friends and the way Halloween night of first changed things for HIM. And Ginny. Aw. Poor Neville. Excellently done, Jadea!
