I like it. The opener is especially good - "my bleak world of milky gray and diluted sunlight". Nice.

"Teen" is out of place here; even the word "teenager" is a neologism. Maybe "girl". Also, you could stand to cut down on the ellipses.

Otherwise, it's sweet.
