Lol! Kaoru? Afraid of fireflies? That was a little silly, i admit. Your second idea was better tho.

"Of course, Fate, fickle creature that she is, had other plans." In this case, very true, but is it fate that really kept them apart? Or Kaoru's fear?

"He sat on the porch, watching the fireflies trace lazy paths across the yard in seemingly random patterns. There was a magical quality to their dance; it seemed to him almost as if the glowing insects were talking, and that if he watched a bit more, observed with all his senses, he would be able to understand them. In a few moments, Kaoru-dono would come through the door, calling his name. But until then, he would wait, and watch the fireflies dance." I missed this foreboding the first time, but it gives the story irony the second read.

"He'd called her "Kaoru", without the honorific. He'd know(known?) it would get her undivided attention." I love this point!!

"He'd dropped the self-deprication, not because he felt any more worthy, or less guilty, but because for this, it didn't matter. For this moment, he would drop all pretenses." I don't think Kenshin calls himself "sessha" as a pretense, rather its his own opinion of himself. However, I love it that he drops it and puts himself and Kaoru on the same level!

"See!" she said. "If I say anything, they'll here(hear?) me, and then something bad will happen. The fireflies are cursed, they'll cause..."

"A pair of glowing spheres danced in the evening air, flashing in and out in an intricate courtship ritual unknown to all but themselves. Whirling about, they flew up the path, circled the couple in opposite directions, and winked out, fleeing into the night." Just made me think: where they really fireflies? and were they courting each other, or were they courting a star to its doom as well?

I think this is an interesting take on how Kaoru would express her fear. It wasn't funny, but it definately wasn't pointless either. Not just the idea of parinoia being true, but also of Kenshin giving up his wandering for Kaoru's love. It was great getting a guy take on what was going through Kenshin's head as he proposed to Kaoru.
I liked it alot.

I read your story earlier but had to think about it and get my feelings in order to leave a review. The overall story is very good but I was expecting parody/romance and was left feeling unusually depressed at the end of the story because I was hoping for a happy ending. If you had labeled it Angst then I would have been prepared for the end.

I would have read the story anyway because of the summary (you would not believe how important a good summary is). Thanks for writing this story, it does put a different spin on the fireflies...

Other than some typos, I think this story is really wonderful! Poor fireflies... Getting such a bad rep...

Well...um...I'm not sure what to think, really. *blinks* I agree with Spellcaster, though, in that I didn't think it was a parody.

*jaws drops to the ground, creating a small crater* u-u-uso....... NO FREAKING WAY!!!!! THAT IS SO NOT RIGHT!!!!! *continues to rant on for a good, oh, six hours*

*pants for not taking a straight breath* sorry. *pant* but *deep breath* fireflies are usually *gasp* associated *pant* with romantic *another gasp* scenes and/or *another deep breath* major drama points.... it's not like *gasp* for them to be *pant* struck down by *cough* a meteor. *hack* doesn't fit.

*finally passes out, then pops right back up* then again, this IS a parody! should've been humor instead. *massive facefault* what? fast recovery's possible!

Uh...that was...interesting.
Why does one of the thingies say "parody" btw? This isn't really a PARODY.
But it's very interesting...^^;;
I think I might read more by you someday if you've written more.
The thing that dragged me out was the ending.
It was too...I can't explain it.
Ah well, doesn't matter.
I read and reviewed. There.
Ja ne!
