Oh, I hope Haldir remains free! Maybe he SHOULD go to Mirkwood...he seems to enjoy being free. Poor Tanglinna. First Celeborn makes him spill the beans, then he gets to try and explain things to Thranduil, and now he gets to do so to Elrond, Celebrian, Glorfindel and Galadriel. If that's not intimidating, then I don't know what is!
I hope the Tricksy Trio will be successful! And not have to face a REAL balrog...lol!
I really liked this chapter, even if I am a bit confused, but that's probably due to the fact that I haven't read this story in forever. The thought of Thranduil being blue still makes me giggle insanely. And just a random question, are you going to explain Aralith's nickname of Enedbal in this story?
None 8/1/04 . chapter 21
Hi. Good that you have updated. Great chapter! I hope you will make the twins pay for their tricks, only "our "little Greenleaf can do this sort of things with Thranduil, only Legolas has the right to do so. Justice must be done here. Bye
Ooh. A plug. Many thanks, TreeHugger the Great, She of Wisdom Surpassing the Wise!
Great description of our would-be warriors, especially Tavor's attire. And lol at his sudden realization- wearing cursed armor against a Balrog might not be the best idea.
Our own little three musketeers- hilarious. I just hope they don't go trying to bathe the Lady Balrog- I cannot see that turning out very well for anyone involved.
Tanglinna's getting a little Brethilitic, methinks, but when he's caught between a rock and hard place, I suppose that's the best way to try and worm his way out. And he's getting a little Fremusian, too? Poor elf. Why doesn't he just steal a horse and either volunteer his services to Cirdan or go home and hope the whole thing has blown over by that point? He might be able to straighten out the trouble brewing in Mirkwood, anyway. And bad punning on top of everything else? I'm surprised Thranduil hasn't killed him. The King must be more patient than anyone gives him credit for.
Ah. There he snapped. That scene was just hilarious.
LOL at Glorfindel- let's reinforce Tanglinna's negative stereotypes of the Noldorin, why don't we.
Celeborn certainly is showing his mischievous side here, and it is quite amusing. And Galadriel's hair doing Medusa impressions is just a great picture.
LOL at Galadriel the Witch Queen. No wonder the Ring was such a close temptation for her.
That whole congregation in the bedroom had me gasping for air. You are brilliantly funny and this is just a great chapter.
I love this story! Legolas and Tavor with their family heirlooms going into "battle" (something tells me they aren't supposed to be playing with those), Glorfindel going to rescue "the child" in his bare feet, Tanglinna sticking up for Legolas and Brethil while tormenting Thranduil. And, of course, the confusion of Elrond and his household, not to mention Celeborn being thrilled about actually knowing something before his wife. This is hilarious! I hope you update soon.
Lol, this chap is hilarious! the most awesome scene is Thranduil deciding he will be scarier that Galadriel... and Celeborn knowing all the truth while the rest do not! :) I guess he feels very happy and smart for that ;)
I loved the tricksy trio getting together to defeat the lady balrog... and Lol, certainly, Tavor's thoughts were not very encouraging thinking about who wore the armour and when ;)
WOW! *laughs* HILARIOUS! I really enjoyed Tanglinna's teasing Thranduil, and poor Galadriel's frustration at not being able to charm Haldir!
Very refreshing!
I only hope that the Lady Balrog Laureahiril can run or fight or bake cookies to dissuade our little Greenleaf and his mischievous cohorts from slaying her!
It gets better and better. I think I have as much fun with this as has Celeborn.
Galadriels reaction is very interesting. But I think that the Lorien-elves wouldnt appreciate it to be called "my little Silvans" not even by her. And she is suspecting that Thranduil has lured them away is just great. But as we see here being blue can have good sides. It can block of Galadriels anger. At least for the moment.
Tanglinna should be careful. Angering a certain elvenking to much can be dangerous. And telling him to ask Noldor for fashion-advices is begging for trouble.
I wonder what Laureahiril has planned for our three little heroes.
PS: What is a certain little eight-legged birthday present doing?
I laughed at the idea that cold air precedes Galadriel and then when Celeborn called her his "sweetest honeysuckle blossom," I really roared. I love him. And Thranduil competing with Galadriel over who is the scariest was just great! Wonderful chapter, Tree. Do it more often!
Mellon-nin, you are and remain the very best humour writer in all Arda - this is perfect, wonderful, brilliant and such fun! :-) Where to start?
Of course, I loved the "meanwhile in Mirkwood" part especially much this time! :-) But before we come to that, I will try to stay in chronological order, somehow.
The beginning of the scene nicely managed to remain in the balance between hilarity and serious themes - of course, it is fun and funny to imagine these two younglings walking down the forest path so very earnestly, convinced that they will have to face a wicked lady Balrog, but the notion that this shows what they will become once is beautiful and very true ("...indeed. It tells us that even grown-up warriors tend to be oh-so-heroic in the face of imaginary dangers, hm?"). And yes - the Tricksy Trio must be complete for such an adventure. LOL - Tavor is a perfect miniature Noldo warrior indeed, complete with elegant armoury and the arrogant mindset that belongs to the Noldor ("I do not know what you mean. Mordil, tell her that the Noldor aren't arrogant! That is - not more so than Silvans..."). I love that this, plus the chin-lifting gesture, nicely foreshadows Glorfindel's most hilarious appearance later - there are so many imaginary Balrogs around! On second thoughts - it is the same balrog, hm? Prophetic dreams! I *love* your clever ideas! You are a genius. :-).
"Maybe they could change her from a Balrog into an elf...since she looked like an elf most of time anyway." - well, I guess a hot bath might even change a Balrog into an elf. Combined with the right sorts of tea, of course. ;-)
Ah, and then, the wonderful Tanglinna and Thranduil passage - I love it dearly! Do you know what I just realize? Tanglinna can talk like Brethil in such situations, and Thranduil does resemble his youngest son now and then - all what they need to make the Tricksy Trio of that generation complete is a silly Noldo with scary elder family members. Certain developments must be the will of the Valar indeed! ;-)
I love Tanglinna's brethilitic moment - especially as he manages to turn halfway into Brethil, but remains Tanglinna at the same time: "Technically, it is your fault." Indeed. Small wonder that Thranduil's patience will be tried a bit too hard here! And the title list made me chuckle - I simply had to think of kingmaker's "Wings" and Graldor's list of titles. But the ending for this was incredibly funny - "I see you are well aware of who you are". I love it! :-) Oh, and the peacock-shimmering robe... Too fitting! :-))
"a stream of rather uncomplimentary and questionable words" - I am *very* disappointed now! ;-D You did NOT tell us the Sindarin equivalent of "puzgnursh"!
But what follows next should convince Tanglinna that a haircut is not a terribly bad thing, after all... *g*
And then, the last part - just ROCL! It feels like one of those scenes at the end of an act in a lovely buffo opera, when the general confusion rises to levels unknown, everyone is clueless - and yet, it is a perfect, funny harmony to the audience! Excellent! :-)
I *love* that Elrond believes to be at the receiving end of some silly prank but has no clue whatsoever who may be behind it and suspects the wrong elves instead - pray tell, what have Erestor and Glorfindel done to him to make him assume that they could be quite that mean? ;-D And then, he believes that Glorfindel's appearance proves him right! This is priceless! And Glorfindel's "hero pose" made me laugh so very hard - yes, it sounds like him to do such a thing, but the mental image! I will certainly dream of that and laugh in my sleep tonight.
And then, we get a halfway movie-verse Galadriel-Medusa - scary indeed, but so funny, because she is so clueless as well! I must say that I love Celeborn in here - his dry comments make this scene even better, and so does his smirk. Go, Lord of Lorien! And Galadriel's words about Thranduil - first, the "little Sinda whelp", and then this incredibly hilarious exchange - "You are blue" - "I know that!" LOL at that - pure and simple, but FUN.
A wonderful, brilliant chapter once again - this brightened my evening and made me very happy! :-) Thanks for posting it!
The Tricksy Trio is gathered, now they are able to stand against anything. But I wonder what Thranduil will say when he hears about it?
Thranduil looks as if he is starting to understand what is going on. It doesnt bode well for Tanglinna. But at the moment he has to deal with an irate Galadriel, who thinks that he has something to do with the fact she cant feel her people.
Celeborn looks like "I know something you dont". I wonder when he will tell the others?
Poor Elrond, he looks so puzzled. Things have clearly gone wrong here, and I am sure it will take a while before he understands it all.
All in all, this is the chapter where things are starting to happen and I look forward to the next one.
Ai! Tree, this is so wonderfully chaotic! I love watching Tanglinna walk the ragged edge of disaster... and a "blue" Thranduil is a sight to behold, especially when he is standing up to the Noldor witch...
Not to mention the delightful image of a smirking Celeborn! Beware silver-haired Elves, indeed!
I just love it... so magnificently insane, and there's Celeborn calmly aware of everything, knowing it all for a change and relishing every second. (grin) What a birthday indeed!
And yet meanwhile, Legolas, Brethil and Tavor are walking their own ragged edge... I hope grandma has a sense of humour... (hee hee hee!)
