Great story you have there. I realized that about half of this chapter saw Edgar drowning himself in liquor as he recalled all that was lost. I especially like these kind of scenes but only when they are masterfully done as they have become quite common.

Fortunately, you have such mastery. It was a relief to see pure emotion and such a sense of despondency in this chapter. No need whatsoever for flowery speech. The rest of the story builds a lot of excitement in the reader. The way you illustrate the scenes with your words is seamless as they seem really vivid from merely a few words. Again, great chapter. Keep writing.
