This was really a sweet story, even though it has a bitter ending. I'm glad SOMEONE chose to do a romance about Hiko, because he is the coolest character on the show! (drools all over keyboard)

I see you like Inuyasha too. If you ever feel so inclined, I would love to read some fanfics by you from that genre as well.

BTW, it's so nice to see that there are other "mature women" that enjoy anime. I'm in my 30's myself, and feel a little like a freak at my age for getting so into something that seems to be dominated by teens and people in their early 20's. It all happened 3 years ago with DBZ and Vegeta, and cartoon network keeps feeding my addiction.

Aw, what a sad story... I've never read these before, (technically never *found* them before, but I'm glad I did...) but you make Hiko... um... likeable. I love him in the manga/anime, he's so funny, but his portrayal in fanfics is often very off. You write his character really well, even if he is younger, _

I liked Hikaru's character, as well. She's very well-written, unlike the majority of original characters. I'm going to read the other fics. Very nice job, here!

i've read your story and i think you have done a fine job on the development of hiko's much hidden path. it was as interesting a read as it was mentally stimulating. none of the chapters seemed even remotely out of place with the original storyline...in other words i absolutely loved it. sorry i only dropped you one review for the whole series but if you want you can email me and i can review all your chapters for you as in C&C not just plain encouragement!

An interesting sequel prequel have made up. I stumbled over this story by the update you made today and thought it would be best to read the stories in the correct order.

I somehow find that young Hiko (or better said Niitsu) sounds a bit like Inuyasha, but it is very fitting :)

He's just as arrogant, so the two can compare, I think. Inuyasha just has to discover sake yet... (hey that's an idea for my fic)

I also like that you try to stay close to history, and did some research for your fic.

I've only seen one episode of RK, so I'm not very familiar with this world...but this is a beautiful story, and I enjoyed it very much! It reminded me a lot of Shogun, which I've read several times...Your writing style is very easy and your dialogue is smooth. Poor Niitsu! Well, that's why they call them "crushes", I suppose...his heart, I mean.

...and I guess other body parts too. Eek!

Is it wrong to be completely thrilled and enticed by the prospect of what appears to be the beginnings of an excellent story? I came looking for Hiko-centric fanfic that wasn't yaoi, was characterized well and had an interesting plotline and *this* looks to be fascinating.

I like Hikaru. She hasn't come off like a Mary Sue and you've given her an interesting personality. I look forward to seeing how you develop her character.

Your Hiko characterization is interesting; I like how you tied in his love of sake. I'm sure some of that arrogance will kick in in due time. I also like how you portrayed his master.

Extremely small nitpick : farmers didn't have to die for the land to revert to the daimyo. The daimyo owned the land anyway and they could seize it at any time if they chose. At this point, in 1850, they could kill peasants who looked at them the wrong way, so seizing land wasn't really a problem.

And aside from that, keep going with this story.

Oh I enjoyed that so much. I've never seen a fic which deals with Hiko's past before, and you write so well too. Thanks for sharing - I hope you'll post more of your stories soon.

*wince about the part where Niitsu gets hit that area* ouch. but what's worst than getting hit there is a broken heart. wonder what's their reaction if they were to meet up years later, after Niitsu learns the ougi (succession technique)?
