I have to admit that I like this pairing. Something about those two just fitts.

I can't stand Mal/Inara, but to each his/her own I guess. However I do love Mal/River stories and I really liked this. Oddly enough I couldn't get into the series but the movie I just love it and now I like the series...I'm making as much sense as River. Probably why I like her character so much...I actually understand her.

Hey Redhood79, Thanks for the kind review. Just had to extend the same courtesy. You have a very impressive array of work (yes I am a Whedon-verse fan), but this one really stood out for me. I really enjoyed the simplicity of the setting and the faithful dialog. The "Sergeant" bit brought on a smile for me too! A really nice scene and a great epilogue to Bushwacked. Great work!

Oooh! Nice expansion on one of the best moments to air so far on Firefly--River's reaction to being outside the ship.

I also enjoyed your portrayal of Mal as basically sympathetic towards River. I hope you'll write more Firefly fic.
