Morning broke, only to find that nobody was paying attention to it.
It went on breaking anyway, in the way that mornings tend to do.

The travelers were once again at Kaede's hut in the village. It seemed
as though everytime something that didn't involve monsters had to
happen, it happened near the well.

Sango rushed quickly out of the hut, heading for the bushes. Kagome,
Inuyasha, and Miroku peered out of the door, surprised, since the taiji-
ya was usually the hardiest of souls. Even when surrounded by hundreds
of dead bodies, Sango never showed anything less than a stomach of cast
iron. But during breakfast today, she had progressively grown greener
and greener, until she'd finally bolted for the door.

"Sango-chan?" Kagome said cautiously. Her query was answered by the
sound of more dry heaves from the bushes. Everyone flinched at the
sound.

Kaede joined them at the door, and peered closely at the pathetic sight
of the demon hunter barfing. She held a waiting cup of water in her
hands.

"Is she normally ill like this?" Kaede asked, while the other gladly
cowered behind her.

"No," Miroku said, looking worried. "She's always been healthy, except
for injuries. I've never once seen her so sick."

"I have some calcium tablets with me," Kagome offered, and went to dig
around in her backpack.

"Feh." Inuyasha had pinched his sensitive nose shut. The smell of
human digestive juices wasn't exactly pleasant, especially for someone
who could smell them from a mile away.

"Inuyasha, you know what's wrong with her, don't you?" Kaede said,
swiveling her one eye to look at him. "I think I know, but you can
confirm it."

Inuyasha glared at Kaede. "It's her business, Kaede-baba. I've known
for a couple of weeks. Whether or not she knows or wants anyone else
to know isn't up to me."

Kagome returned with the calcium only to find Sango returning from her
unexpected trip to the bushes. Kagome pressed a few of the calcium
tablets into the other woman's hands, and Sango gratefully accepted
them. Kaede also handed her the cup of water.

"Sango-san, we must have a talk," Kaede said, and then glared at
Miroku. "You too, houshi-sama."

Miroku suddenly paled.

The old miko led the way to a place out of earshot of those inside the
hut, and proceeded to have a very serious talk with the two teenagers.

Kagome grabbed Inuyasha's arm, and pulled him within whispering
distance.

"What's wrong with Sango?"

"She's pregnant, Kagome."

Wedding bells immediately clanged in Kagome's ears, but they were
quickly drowned out by the more practical sound of baby cries.

"Oh." She bit her lip uncertainly. "How did you know?"

Inuyasha snorted. "Considering the number of mornings she's woken up
smelling like that stupid priest, it's obvious. That, and I didn't
smell her woman's time this month. Dogs . . . also can usually tell
that sort of thing."

"You can smell that sort of thing . . . and you know when to expect,
um, our . . . times?"

"Kagome, I pay *very* close attention to the cycles of the moon."

Kagome rubbed her toe into the dirt.

"Then you . . . um, know I missed mine last week too."

Inuyasha looked at Kagome, who suddenly turned very greenish, and
clutched her stomach in pain. In an instant she was also running
outside the hut to the bushes.

"Shit," Inuyasha said, banging his fist against the wall of the hut,
waking Shippou up. "I knew it. I fucking knew it. Shit shit
shit."

"Mmmheh, Inuyasha?" the little fox said sleepily.

"Nothing," Inuyasha answered. "Just the worst possible fucking thing
that could have happened. We should have never stopped at that
hotsprings that one time . . ."

Unbeknownst to Inuyasha, Shippou suddenly grinned a *very* smug grin.

Owari.
