Chapter 1:
"Dad if we don't get going, I'm going to be late for school," Chloe yelled to her dad. Chloe was in her room yelling to her dad, who was downstairs all ready to go. Meanwhile Chloe was putting the finishing touches on her outfit because it was picture day today.
"Ok Chloe, I've been ready to go for 10 minutes. Come downstairs so we can get going!" he yelled back.
She quickly checked her reflection in the mirror, grabbed her bag and ran downstairs.
"You look lovely, Chloe," her father said. Chloe had decided on a red sleeveless top and knee length black skirt.
"Thanks Dad! Now let's go, let's go," she said as she pushed her father out the door.
As soon as Chloe had got to school she headed straight for the Torch office. She opened the door expecting to be the only one there at this time. But she was very surprised to see Lex Luthor sitting at one of the Torches computers looking at something intently on the screen. He looked up from the computer when he saw her come in and smiled at her.
"What exactly are you doing in here?" Chloe said, ignoring his smile and getting straight to the point.
"Oh no you caught me! Now, I'm not going to be able to steal the Torches computers even though I have many of my own," he replied sarcastically.
"Ha, ha, very funny! Now what are you really doing in here," she replied.
"Well, not that its any of your business, I came here with Clark," he replied with a satisfied smile on his face.
"And has Clark all of the sudden turned invisible," she replied smugly.
"For your information, he had to step out for a minute. He'll be back soon. I decided to sit here and play some solitaire," he said and turned the screen towards her, "See. Is that all right with you Oh Mighty Queen of The Torch?" He said this as he stood up and bowed.
She burst out laughing at his remark. She had to admit that Lex could be a very hilarious person when he wasn't serious.
"Finally the ice has broken," he said with a sigh of relief.
"So where did Clark say he was going?" she asked as soon as she was finished laughing.
"All he said was that he would be back right away. Anyways school is about to start soon, shouldn't you be getting to class?" he asked.
"Who made you hall monitor?" She said jokingly and added, "I do this every morning. I come in here and check my email then I'm off to class."
"Uhh. Looking for letters from a secret internet romance," he said seriously.
"Yeah right Lex. That's exactly what I'm doing," she said and kept scanning her mail, "Junk, junk, junk. Oh my god, Yes, yes!" She screamed.
Lex looked up at her with a look that said 'you're totally nuts' and said to her, "What? What's wrong?"
"Wrong. There's definitely nothing wrong. The Daily Planet has offered me an interview for a chance to be an intern there. I applied in the summer; I didn't expect to get a reply so fast. This is so amazing!" Chloe exclaimed.
Lex got out of his chair and walked over to her. He put his hand on his shoulder and said to her, "Congratulations Chloe! I know you'll make a great reporter!" He also gave her one of his great bright smiles.
"Thanks Lex. The interview is during my holiday next week. Now I just need a way to get down there," she said to herself.
"I could drive you there," she was surprised to hear Lex say.
"What?" she replied thinking she didn't hear straight.
"I'm going to Metropolis next week so I could give you a lift there if you want," he said looking at her intently.
"You really don't have to. I could take the bus or something," she replied nervously. She thought it was a bit weird that he was offering, even though they don't know each other very well.
"Don't worry about it. It will give us a chance to get to know each other better," he said as he began to walk out the door, "Oh can you tell Clark that I couldn't stay longer because I have a meeting. And I'll call you sometime this week. By the way, you look lovely today. See ya."
And he walked out of the room leaving Chloe dazed and confused.
"What just happened here?" she asked herself.
