Kagome sighed and leaned back into the sofa. "Why?" She asked for what seemed like the thousandth time that day. Her mother stared at her from in front of the sofa, her eyes holding nothing but patience for her uncooperative daughter.

"Now dear," she said, "All your friends have one; why shouldn't you? Besides, it is only what they deserve!"

Her mother was referring, of course, to the youkai that some humans used for slaves. It used to be the other way around, humans as slaves, but the humans had rebelled and found a way to subdue the violent demons, making them their slaves. Almost all of Kagome's friends had their own personal slave, but she didn't really see any point in having one herself. She could take care of herself. She didn't need some youkai following around all day doing everything she could do for herself.

Unfortunately, her lack of a slave was making her family look bad in the eyes of the other humans so her mother was trying to force her to get one.

"But I don't need one!" she said exasperated. "I can take perfectly good care of myself, thank you very much!"

Her mother sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "Kagome dear, you're getting one whether you want it or not! Stop this arguing and go down to the slave quarters and get one!"

Kagome shook her head violently, hazel eyes flashing with irritation. "No!" she stormed up the stairs and into her room, slamming the door behind her.

Downstairs, her mother sighed again and rang for a slave. Hastily writing a note to the master of the slave's quarters, she gave it to a slave to deliver. Knowing that her daughter would be furious with her, she picked up her purse and left the house, deciding that it would be better to be as far away as possible when her daughter's famous temper exploded.

Kagome sat on her bed fuming. "What the hell is everybody's problem anyways?" she muttered out loud to herself. "I don't need nor want a slave!" She moved from her bed to the windowsill. Looking outside, she could see people and youkai everywhere. She sighed. 'There are plenty of free youkai in the world and most of everyone's personal slaves aren't even treated like slaves!' she thought. 'All my friends personal slaves are treated like just another person.' Then she grinned. 'Another person that follows you around and does stuff for you anyways.'

Her spot on the windowsill was warm from the sun and she felt herself start to doze off. 'Who needs a slave anyways?' she thought right before she fell asleep.

"My god, do you sleep all day?"

Kagome woke with a start. "Huh?" She opened her eyes. 'What was that voice?' she thought sleepily. She looked around. "I'm over here stupid!" came the voice from where her bed was. "Jeez, humans really are pathetic!"

That got her attention. Her head snapped around to look at her bed. She nearly fell off the windowsill. 'There's a demon on my bed!'

Well, not really a demon. He was tall, with long silvery-white hair that fell down past his waist. He was wearing a weird outfit and had a sword strapped to his waist. His hands had long sharp fingernails that looked suspiciously like claws. His most startling feature, however, was his ears. They were dog-ears, little white dog-ears, sitting on the top of his head and twitching constantly. He sat on her bed, glaring at her with golden eyes.

Kagome took all of this in in a second before her famous temper took over. "What the hell are you doing in my room?!?" she shrieked.

The demon jumped at the sound of her voice and nearly fell off her bed. His golden eyes narrowed angrily. "What the hell do you think?!?"

Kagome hopped off the windowsill and stood in front of the bed. "I know that there is a youkai sitting on my bed in my room!" she snapped, hazel eyes blazing.

The demon growled and lept to his feet glaring down at her. "Stupid human, I'm a 'slave', why the hell else do you think I'm in here?!?"

Kagome froze. 'What?' she thought. 'I don't have a.' "OH MY GOD, I'M GONNA KILL HER!" She rushed out of the room leaving a very confused youkai staring after her.

"MOM!!!!!!" she shouted as she stormed into the kitchen. She looked around in surprise when she saw no one there. 'Where is she?' Kagome thought furiously. Then she noticed a note on the table.

Dear Kagome, Went shopping for clothes, be back sometime later. -Mom

"Why that." Kagome was furious. 'How dare she send me a slave when I said NO then just take off like that!' She was still fuming when a tap on her shoulder startled her.

She whirled around to find the youkai standing in front of her looking annoyed. "Go away!" she snapped and started to push past him when he grabbed her arm.

"What the hell is wrong with you?!? Why are you so pissed off? Most humans would be happy to have a slave to torment!"

Kagome shook her arm free from his grasp and turned to glare at him fiercely. "I don't want to torment anybody! I didn't want a slave!" She ran up the stairs back up to her room.

The youkai just stood there for a second in shock. 'She didn't want a slave?' He shook his head in irritation. "Stupid girl!" he muttered before going after her. He opened the door and went in. She was laying on her bed, face buried in a pillow.

"I said go away!" she yelled, her voice muffled. She heard the demon moving towards the bed.

"Why didn't you want a slave?" she heard him ask. She ignored him. A low growl came from behind her.

"Hello? Are you deaf or just stupid? I asked you a question!"

Kagome sat up angrily. "Stop calling me stupid! The reason I never wanted a slave is because I don't believe in that kind of thing, alright?!?" She turned away from him and glared out the window.

He took a step closer. "What do you mean you don't believe in that kind of thing? Every human does!"

Kagome shook her head, still looking out the window. "Well I don't, okay?!? I don't believe in having a slave because it, in my eyes at least, makes me no better than the youkai who did it in the first place!" she sighed. "Why does nobody understand that?"

She turned and looked at him. He was staring at her with a kind of shocked and annoyed expression on his face.

"Hey, what's your name anyways?" she asked suddenly. He seemed surprised by her question.

"What?"

"I asked you what your name was. You do have a name don't you?"

He nodded. "Yea but."

"But what?"

"Why the hell should you care? I'm a 'slave'. Slaves don't have names!"

Kagome's eyes flashed with hazel fire. "You're so rude! I'm trying to be polite!"

He glared at her. "Why be polite, I'm a 'slave' remember?"

"Arrgg, what is your problem?!? I can be nice if I want to be!"

H looked taken aback. "You're the strangest human I've ever met!"

Kagome snorted. "I suppose I should take that as a compliment!" She stood up and started to walk out of the room. "Your room's next to mine, mother had it there just in case." She took a step out of the door when the youkai's voice stopped her.

"Inuyasha."

She turned around in surprise. "Pardon?" (Okay it's French, who cares?!?)

The demon glared at the floor almost sulkily. "I said my name is Inuyasha. I'm not a youkai, I'm a hanyou."

Kagome's eyes widened a bit. "A hanyou? I didn't know there were any." she shook her head slowly then walked out of the room. Inuyasha jumped up and rushed after her.

"Hey, where are you going?!?"

She continued walking but slowed down when he caught up to her. 'I'm going for a walk." She answered, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye. He looked away, annoyed but not really unhappy. 'A hanyou,' she thought. 'Part human, part youkai. he shouldn't even be a slave if he's part human right?' She turned her head to look at him. 'He's not so bad,' she decided. He noticed her look and growled at her. She winced. 'Then again.'
