No one seems to understand. That's why we hide it. As best as we possibly can.

The ones that can't understand we're boy-kissers, as Snitch so naively puts it, can only see Mush with the curly haired girls that delight in giggling and flirting in the day, losing their skirts at night, and paying you no attention the following morning. They can only picture me with a scholarly girl, the kind that usually prefers books to men.

The ones that see right through us and know we're boy-kissers, they can only see me with Jack or that pedophile Denton. And they laugh about Mush being with Kid Blink.

I can understand that. But no one understands us.

That's why we sneak out under the cloak of darkness to hold each other in alleyways, to kiss with only the light of the moon on our shoulders, to run our fingers through each other's curly hair.

They can't see…they're just blind to it all. They can't see me going out of my way to stand beside Mush in the line every morning, they can't see Mush leaning on me when he's tired, they just don't see…

They can't possibly all be that blind…

Jack knows now. I had to tell him. He was surprised at first, those mahogany eyes widening openly. Then he shrugged.

"Whatevah makes ya happy, Dave. Youse n Mush're me pals. S'long's me pals happy, I's happy." he told me. I knew he'd support us. I knew he'd understand. He was my first boy, while Mush is my first love.

I don't understand how no one sees…

I don't understand how no one knows…

But I guess it doesn't matter.

As long as Mush Meyers is willing to kiss me beneath the moonlight, nothing else matters to this David Jacobs.

There's even Dave/Mush in there, I swear! David Moscow and Aaron Lohr got along extremely well during the making of Newsies, it seems to me, and it only opens the doors to a beautiful slash pairing that no one else seems to see!
