"When I Grow Up"









"Let me GO!" Jounouchi yelled, glaring at the usual object of his bête-noir, the unfathomable and rarely amiable Seto Kaiba.

"You started this," Kaiba replied coldly, pushing him back against the wall.

"What?!" Jounouchi cried incredulously. "You were antagonizing ME- and on purpose!"

"Ooo, big words from the puppy." Kaiba smirked. "Do you even know what that meant?"

"As a matter of fact, I do," Jounouchi said in an annoyed tone. "And haven't you gotten tired of that old insult yet? Or can't you think of anything better?"

Kaiba blinked in surprise, his grip loosening slightly. Jounouchi had never calmly met him insult for insult before. Taking advantage of the hesitation, the blonde slipped out from his grasp and away from the wall, but did nothing else.

"You're acting strange," Kaiba observed after a moment of puzzled silence in which Jounouchi just looked at him.

"I've been thinking," he replied honestly. "I've made a couple of decisions, and one of them was to get over myself. And that includes getting a handle on my temper- even when you're around."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Kaiba scoffed.

"Don't you know?" Jounouchi gave him a considering look. "No . . . I guess you wouldn't. After all, you've never seen the way I act when you aren't with me. But you bring out the worst in me, Kaiba. Always have. Probably always will, if I can't get myself together."

"You . . . " Kaiba frowned very slightly, seeming for once at a loss for words.

"I'm ready to grow up," Jounouchi told him, grinning a little crookedly. "You ready to treat me like I have?"

"If you insist." And Kaiba kissed him.

Jounouchi chuckled in triumph and kissed him back.
