Even if that coral pink was pitch black

And bright blue became ocean gray.

If the skin seemed sallow instead of alive, if your step was slow instead of quick, if your voice moaned instead of ringing like a bell.

I would know you.

I think I might love you.

As much as I can love anyone. As much as I can allow hope to enter my jaded heart.

As much as I can forget the past

That hangs about my neck.

I think I might understand you…know you…believe in you….

And we were standing, so close to the sky…so close to our eternity looming in the clouds.

Each one of us straining to hear you call,

Reaching with our tears to imprint your face to our memory.

And I come to the conclusion that you are a miracle.

Just not mine.

In between nightfall and the waking dawn, in between the clash of swords and the chill of useless words, in between the gate to the outside and the door to our bedrooms…..

In those moments,

Where time seems to stop and you cannot breathe,

I think we might have kissed.

Just a brush of the lips, just a whisper of something unattainable, just a mere second in the hourglass…..

Just a pause between princes.
