Encounter At Olivine City

Revision 1.0 (11/10/04): Didn’t even touch the story itself (not mine to edit!), but I did do a little reformatting. That’s all.

This is my dad’s story, not mine. He plays Pokémon as well, and has a good know-all of everything in the game. He said that I could post this story here, so I have. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. It is based on his Pokémon Crystal, and includes my characters from Alternate Reality: To What The Future Holds (as well as a few of his own!). Enjoy!

...On a side note, the sequel to this fic (if and when my dad ever finishes it... I may have to take it up in his place if he doesn't get around to it...) will tie in to my Pokémon Colosseum series. (nods) Just you watch...

Anyways, please enjoy!

Disclaimer: Don’t own Pokémon, but we do own our original characters and ideas.

It was a beautiful and sunny spring day in Olivine City. Samantha McPhoenix walked along the beach with her little sister, Nicole. They had come to Olivine City so that their dad, Jan, could compete in the Battle Tower. He had entered the tower the last five Saturdays in a row and had won every battle. He was now going for a record six in a row. He had decided to become a Pokémon master after watching his daughter Samantha learn the art. His team of Snorlax, Gengar, Sandslash, Hypno, Cloyster and Zapdos were formidable.

Samantha and Nicole would have liked to attend the match, but they knew it was not open to the public. It took many tries before their Dad had finally won his first match in the Battle Tower and they were proud of him. For now they relaxed on the beach. Samantha, a Pokémon Master, watched Nicole and her friend, Mishiko play with their Pokémon. Nicole had out her Hypno, named Psychic, and Mishiko had out her little Smoochum, named Kiss. Samantha eyed the lemonade stand about 200 feet away. “You want a drink?” she asked. Both little girls yelled out “Sure!” as they and their Pokémon chased and kicked a ball. “I’ll be right back, be careful.” Said Samantha as she walked to the refreshment stand.

Samantha kept an eye on the duo as she got in line. As she ordered, her cell phone rang, it was Misty. They began to chat.

At that moment the ball flew behind a giant rock on the beach. Nicole and Mishiko ran after Psychic and Kiss. As they rounded the huge boulder, they gasped and stopped. Psychic and Kiss (and the ball) were beneath a large, glowing net. Two tall figures stood over them. The strangers wore all scarlet clothing. Their faces were even covered by scarlet colored scarves and they wore red gloves, hats, boots and capes. “What are you doing? Those are our Pokémon!” exclaimed Nicole. One of the strangers looked at the capture net and stated “They are ours now, little girl.” Nicole looked at Mishiko and said “Run and get Samantha, now!” and her friend ran off.

Nicole knew she should of done the same but she grabbed a Pokéball and cried “Sprout, I choose you!!” Instantly her Weepingbell appeared. The man once again spoke, “I see you know how to train Pokémon, little girl, but you’ll be sorry that you didn’t run when you had the chance.” He threw a Pokéball and a Raticate appeared. His partner threw one also and a Granbull appeared. “I guess we will take your Weepingbell too!” he snarled.

Samantha was about to tell Misty goodbye when she saw Mishiko running toward her wide-eyed. A sinking feeling came over her as she saw the flashing light of a Pokéball appear from behind a huge boulder. “I have to go Misty.” She said on the phone, “Nicole and Mishiko might be in trouble!” She hung up and then quickly pushed a button on her phone that alerted her dad that she needed him to contact her. She then raced toward Mishiko.

“Two on one is no fair!” stated Nicole. The man laughed and said, “The Crimson Collectors never play fair. Now, Raticate, use your super fang!” ‘Rrrraticate!” sounded the Pokémon as it rocketed forward and delivered a devastating bite on Weepingbell. “Sprout, use sleeping powder!” “Wheep-ing-bell…” he answered as a dusty powder fell on Raticate, putting it to sleep. “What?!?” exclaimed the leader. The other man stepped forward, “Granbull! Bite attack!” The large dog growled and bit Weepingbell knocking the plant Pokémon out! “Ha!” the duo responded. The leader quickly put a potion in Raticate’s mouth and woke him up.

Before Nicole could say anything, Samantha came around the corner. “Why don’t you pick on someone more your size?” she asked. She saw the net and Nicole took the opportunity to recall Weepingbell. “Who are you and what do you think your doing?”

The leader snarled, “We are members of The Crimson Collectors. We are on a mission. We claim these two Pokémon. Now be gone with the little one and no one will get hurt.”

“Your rather bossy.” Replied Samantha calmly. “I don’t think I like your attitude” The teen looked at her little sister and said “Let’s get Psychic and Kiss back.” With that she threw a Pokéball and commanded “Go Firestorm!” and her towering Charizard appeared. Nicole called “Go Volcano!” and her Typhlosion roared its arrival. “Raticate! Super fang now!” yelled the leader. The other yelled out “Granbull, bite, now!” Firestorm received a super fang and Typhlosion got bit. “Firestorm! Flamethrower now!” “Volcano, Flame wheel now!” the sisters yelled. After the great flames subsided, Raticate and Granbull were knocked out.

Before the sisters could congratulate themselves, another man appeared coming around the other side of the rock. He too was clad all in scarlet but he had a black stripe across his shirt. “You fools couldn’t take care of this simple task?” Then an Omanyte and an Omastar appeared next to him. “Surf attack now!”

The two rare Pokémon unleashed two great tidal surges and with that Firestorm and Volcano were knocked out. Samantha and Nicole quickly recalled their fallen friends. “Who are you and what do you want?!” demanded Samantha.

The new arrival chuckled, “I am the leader of The Crimson Collectors, Roger Monroe. We collect Psychic Pokémon. These two are ours.”

“Monroe?” asked Samantha. “I know of a Rich Monroe, a pretty bad guy, are you…”

“Great! You have heard of my cousin! He is the greatest mind in the entire Pokémon universe and will usher in a new era on this earth. I will help him. Our task is to collect Psychic Pokémon for him and in this I never fail.” Crowed Roger.

“If this is true, then you in for a surprise. Prepare to meet failure.” Replied Samantha. “You want to meet a Psychic Pokémon? Then GO Minty!” With that, her great friend, Mew appeared. “Go Gator!” yelled Nicole as her Feraligatr sprang out with a roar.

“A Mew?!?!” cried Roger. “You have just handed me a great prize! Get it!!’

Two more Pokéballs opened up as the Crimson Collectors released two Beedrills, which appeared with a buzz. The battle began.

Omastar fired a hydro-pump that hit Mew. Samantha was surprised it got the jump on her and then watched in amazement as Omanyte hit Gator with spike cannon. Then the two Beedrills fired Twineedle and Pin missile at Minty with devastating results. Minty was hurt badly!

Gator roared and surfed Omanyte knocking it out! Then Minty did the same, knocking Omastar back but not out. Once again, The Crimson Collectors trio got their attacks in first! Omastar gave a horn attack to Gator that knocked him out! Then the two Beedrills fired Twinneedle and pin missile again and knocked Minty out!! “Yes!!” screamed Roger, losing any semblance of calmness.

Samantha scowled and then released Five-Star, her legendary Mewtwo. “What?!?!” exclaimed Roger. “This is unbelievable!”

Two Beedrills and Omastar faced Mewtwo. Once again, the two Beedrills got in the first attack and both used pin missile on the psychic legend. Five-Star responded with a psychic attack that knocked Omastar out.

Roger laughed loudly. “To gain your rare Pokémon, I will use the newest and rarest Pokémon! Go Shadowstrike!” With that he threw his Pokéball and a great black cat, as large as a full-grown male lion appeared. Its eyes glowed red with an evil intent. His claws razor-sharp glinted in the sunlight. He hissed loudly.

“What is that?” asked Samantha evenly. Though surprised, the Pokémon Master showed no emotion, not wishing her foe to think he had gained an upper hand.

“This is a Shadowcat! A clone Rich invented for me, his favorite cousin! It is a dark/psychic Pokémon! Since it is a clone it is ten times stronger than your Pokémon! The psychic Pokémon we are collecting will be fused with dark Pokémon and then we will create an army of super unique clones!” This delighted him as he burst into laughter.

“Go Steel!” commanded Nicole and with that her Skarmory took flight. “Nothing will save you now!” cackled Roger. With that both Beedrills released twineedle attacks against Mewtwo. Then the imposing Shadowstrike released a shadow ball attack against Five-Star that staggered it and made it drop to one knee! “Five-star!” exclaimed Samantha “Recover now!” With that some health returned, but he was hurting and another round like would knock him out.

Roger laughed. “Is that all you can do?”

Then a whoosh sounded as Steel dived into one of the Beedrills with a peck attack and knocked it out!

The other Beedrill commenced a fury attack on Steel but it did little good against the steel Pokémon.

“Say goodbye to Mewtwo!” sneered Roger “Shadow ball attack, now!!”

As the ghost attack raced toward Five-Star, a strange thing happened. A Gengar rose up out of the sand in front the Mewtwo. “Gengar!” is said with a great grin. The great shadow ball hit the Gengar directly and it back pedaled, arms flailing and fell back into the sand and disappeared. “What?!?!” screamed Roger.

Samantha smiled. That was her dad’s Gengar! “Recover again!” ordered Samantha, and Five-Star did so. “Peck, Steel!” yelled Nicole and it did so, knocking out Beedrill.

“Who did that?” growled Roger. He looked up quickly as he heard “I did.”

Standing on top of the boulder was Samantha and Nicole’s dad, Jan. He was in his late thirties and had blonde hair. He was fiercely protective of his girls. “You’ve made me angry, son. Bad move on your part. Snorlax, body slam attack!”

With that a great Snorlax flew off the top of the boulder and landed on Shadowstrike with a great thump. “No way!” cried Roger.

Shadowstrike was hurt but not out and it flung Snorlax off nearly two feet! It was hurt and angry. “Now Sam!” yelled Jan.

Samantha stepped forward and coolly said “Thunderbolt!” Five-Star delivered the devastating attack on the huge cat.

“No!” yelled Roger. Shadowstrike reeled, hissing but it was paralyzed. Snorlax rose again and began moving toward it. “No!” Roger yelled again.

“Show him your not just another psychic Pokémon!” called Samantha and Five-Star released an ice beam just as Steel released swift attack. Both hit Shadowstrike and it fell on is back. It looked up just in time to see Snorlax land a smashing body slam.

“NO!!!” howled Roger as he fell to his knees. “I’ve never failed!”

“Get used to it.” Replied Samantha.

“Don’t mess with the McPhoenix family or this will be your fate.” Said Jan looking down from the rock.

As Snorlax rose up and off the knocked out Shadowcat, Roger reacted faster than could have been imagined, he recalled his clone in a ball and stood. “You’ll pay for this! No one gets the best of The Crimson Collectors!” With that he threw down a small device that let out a huge cloud of smoke, he whirled his crimson cape and disappeared!

As the smoke began to clear, the two henchmen left behind looked confused and then attempted to run. A great rush of wings sounded and buffeted all as a Dragonite landed, with Lance Scott, the great Dragon Pokémon Master and one of the Elite Four arrived. “You two are not going anywhere!” Dragonite’s tail knocked them both to the ground. Seconds later Officer Jenny and her Growlithe appeared to take them into custody.

“Misty told me Nicole and my cousin might be in trouble, Samantha, so I came as fast as I could.” He jumped off Dragonite and walked toward them. Mishiko ran out and into his arms. “She’s your cousin?” asked Samantha.

“Sure is. Looks like I have some catching up to do, can you fill me in?”

Samantha recalled Minty and Five-Star and said “Of course. We have a lot to discuss. This encounter changes a lot of things.”

“Well, I’m very proud of you.” smiled Jan. He hugged both Samantha and Nicole. “You did great and I’m glad your safe.”

“But I wonder for how long…” silently thought Samantha and Lance at the same time.

They both knew they would be working closely together in the coming months to thwart not only The Crimson Collectors but also Roger and Rich, who must be stopped.

Hope you all liked that! I sure enjoyed it when I read it. Well, there is, as of now, a sequel in the works, but since my dad is busy most of the time and doesn’t devote his free time to fanfics the way I do, it won’t be for a while. Anyways, please review (no flames, please. I insist. After all, it's not even my story!), and until next time...
