We're dancing
The mirkwood Kingdom was alive with activity that particular summer evening. The evening was truly beautiful, with its soft summer breezes and the glow that radiated from the moon, whose light was caught in the pools of water that ran throughout the kingdom. Guests mingled within the courtyard where the breeze tangled the blond locks of the elves that stood around enjoying the cool breeze brush across their faces. But most of the guests present that evening chose to keep within the halls of mirkwood where music and dancing were the center focus of the evening. However one did not join in on the festivities of the evening. Moonlight caught blond strands of hair highlighting the golden shimmer that they held, whilst the summer wind brushed them from his face, twisting in an intricate dance around the angelic face. The elf's hands rested in a crossed fashion in the balcony's intricate iron railing as he leaned into the iron bar. Liquid pools of blue caught the rays from the moon as his face was turned up towards its light. How this elf radiated such beauty and grace. His very beauty rivaled that of the moon itself. But his very being suggested that he did not wish to join in such festivities that particular evening. As he watched the moons light intertwine with the soft breeze his elven hearing detected the presence of another. Turning his head quickly he watched as Estel emerged from the shadows, where the moon could not reach with its light. He ignored the presence of his friend for a moment instead glancing back up at the moon. However moments later he spoke his words musical notes that played upon on another.
~*~ When the going starts to get rough, and you feel like you've had enough let the music take control of your soul Take a chance and do what you feel. You're a force, they cannot live without it. You got to break the chain. mmm, Yeah .~*~
"My dear Estel. How the moon shines this evening. It too rejoices our homecoming"
Aragorn walked with silence towards Legolas where he too looked up towards the shimmering light, before looking over legolas who was still absorbed in the soft light.
"Pray tell Legolas why you do not join in the joyful celebrations of the evening. You will soon be requested, for you are also the guest of honor this fine summer evening."
Legolas glanced over to Aragorn only to find himself lost in the deep brown of his eyes that held so many emotions.
"I wish not to make myself the center of attention tonight Estel. Tonight will be for you and the rest of the fellowship."
Shaking his head Aragorn looked down towards the people who mingled below them.
"Why do you hide yourself so Legolas. You almost seem to fear those around you."
A light sigh escaped the prince as he looked towards his friend. His eyes held so many emotions, mixed together, swirling, sparkling, a dance of the universe. But one seemed to light up his eyes. It was not the guests that filled the halls of mirkwood that legolas feared. It was the one being that stood so close now that was driving him crazy and he feared that with such a combination of music, laughter and alcohol that evening some emotions, that are best left to lay dormant, would suddenly and unexpectantly burst forth. It was something legolas wished to avoid, for now anyway. He knew one day he would have to speak of his feelings, perhaps not to Aragorn right away. But the evening was so perfect to be tarnished by the elf's ill moves. However the two were interrupted when pippin who was standing nervously near the doorway told the two that they were both requested in the dinning hall. When he had left Aragorn turned to the prince.
~*~ There's a passion inside an inner strength that drives can't nobody take that away from you. Its the greatest high you set the floor on fire when you come alive. ~*~
Come dear legolas. Tonight you will share the glory for without you perhaps a fate worse than what we faced may have befell us all"
But legolas hesitated when Aragorn held out a hand for him. Estel had meant it more as a mock gesture but legolas had taken it the wrong way. Not that it bothered him but suddenly his thoughts had become a mess and he did not know what to do or say. Thankfully Aragorn still believed legolas did not want to be part of the festivities so he took his hand and lead him towards the dinning hall.
****** How great the festivities had been that evening. Legolas had begun to relax greatly and spoke amongst many of his friends that he had long since seen. However his eye continued to wander to the ranger who had the attention of many that evening. As the hours passed the dance floor began to widen gradually and soon legolas had lost sight of Aragorn. He cursed silently under his breath before turning away. Suddenly feeling a hand on his shoulder legolas whipped back around only to trip and fall into the waiting arms of Estel. He cursed his unusual clumsiness which Aragorn had seemed to notice. However he brushed it off and helped legolas to his feet.
"Now now legolas there is no need for you to kneel before me anymore" laughed Aragorn to which legolas shot him a glare, shaper than that of his arrows.
"Come" said Aragorn taking legolas' hand in his. "Let us dance just one dance before I must return to Rivendell."
Legolas looked stricken, that his Estel would have to return so soon. Luckily Aragorn did not catch his look of concern and continued to lead the blond haired prince to the very middle of the dance floor, before taking his hands in a waltz position. The song was rather slow but its beat quickened into a much livelier tune and the two soon became the center of attention as the large mass of people moved back to allow the two the space of the floor.
~*~ And we're dancing and it feels alright I cant control my desire And we're dancing and it feels alright Yeah And we're dancing and it feels alright Can't hold me down gotta reach for the sky. And we're dancing and it feels alright Yeah .~*~
The music was lost to legolas and all he could see was Estel and felt his strong arm wrapped around legolas' waist lightly. How the world begun to spin. Legolas was lost in all the beauty of Estel. But it was his eyes that legolas found himself trying to decipher. They were full of every experience that Aragorn had felt in his life. But as legolas began to look deeper he found himself wondering why estel's eyes did not show true love. Legolas was pulled from his world when he felt Aragorn stop. Legolas took one look at Aragorn before tearing himself from the grasp and running from the hall with such speed, his eyes blurred with tears.
~*~ Some people don't know the love you possess They can't contend what they don't understand. It's natural you're in a world of your own. ~*~
How he wished he had the courage to speak the word of truth to Estel. But he had missed such a chance. No doubt by the time legolas arrived back in the halls of mirkwood Aragorn would have left with lord Elrond and his foster brothers. This thought only brought on more tears that ran down his soft skin and fell into the pools of moonlight. He was so lost in his thoughts he didn't not acknowledge when he was joined by another.
Estel pushed back a soft strand of golden hair that fell across the prince's face. Legolas looked up, startled when he saw that Estel sat beside him. He pushed aside his tears furiously. He did not wish Estel to see him this way.
~*~ There's a passion inside an inner strength that drives, Can't nobody take that away from you. It's the greatest high, You set the floor on fire When you come alive .~*~
"Why do you cry so dear prince? You have no reasons for tears"
Legolas turned his head away but Aragorn reached out and took his chin in his hand turning his gentle face.
"I can see the sadness in your eyes legolas. You have failed to tell me what upsets you so"
Tears began to well in the prince's eyes and he whispered one word. "you"
Estel looked quite confused. Be begun to search for reasons he had upset his dear friend. Legolas sensed his fear and shook his head lightly.
"It is not for the reason you believe dear Estel" he spoke quietly. "You will never understand or except it and I hate myself so for torturing my heart with feelings that will never be. You are be.."
But his saddened words were cut off as Estel lightly kissed the young prince of mirkwood. Pulling back Estel looked down at legolas who bit his lip lightly. No words need be spoken between to two. Legolas threw himself into Aragorn's arms embracing him tightly. However estel's embrace was not as tight as legolas wished and he looked into the half elf's eyes, his own wavering slightly, full of question. No smile graced Aragorn's face. He looked down at the prince in his arms.
~*~ And we're dancing and it feels alright I can't control my desire And we're dancing and it feels alright Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. Push it to the max Feel the room fall at your feet Don't you dare hold back Cause it feels so good inside. ~*~
"Legolas. what shall we do? I must return to Rivendell in the morning"
Legolas looked close to tears once again and he buried his head in Aragorn's chest sobbing lightly. How his world was falling apart at his feet. It was not fair. Estel ran his hands through legolas' golden hair whispering words in elvish to the young prince. Legolas lifted his head from where it rested and allowed his elegant fingers trace Aragorn's face, wiping away the stray tears that ran down his cheeks. Reaching up estel took legolas wrist and leaning over he brush his lips across the elf's. But legolas would not allow him to pull back quite so quickly this time and he lent into the kiss passionately.
~*~ And we're dancing, and it feels alright I can't control my desire. And we're dancing and it feels alright Yeah. And we're dancing and it feels alright. Can't hold me down gotta reach for the sky. And we're dancing and it feels alright. Yeah ~*~
The two were unaware of the two pairs of eyes that watched their sons. Lord Elrond smiled at the two.
"My I truly have forgotten how young they are. Dear Arwen will certainly not be pleased with the outcomes of this evening"
King Thrandul smiled also, a genuine smile.
"I am glad that legolas has found someone he is comfortable with. I would doubt every day he lived if he were to end up with a girl that did not truly love him. Legolas is not as strong emotional as he is physically. Aragorn senses this. It is in the way he embraces legolas."
"Indeed it seems that way. But how shall this matter resolve for we must make haste back to Rivendell by morning's light."
"For tonight Elrond, let them be. For once they are both truly happy. They no longer carry the burdens of the world when they are together."
Elrond nodded glancing back at the two that sat beside the pool of water, embraced in one another's arms, before following the king.
Legolas looked up into the liquid brown eyes of Estel who held him so warmly. His heart skipped beat after beat as he thought of that evening and the events that proceeded. How legolas had wished for this. He had planned on hiding himself away that evening whilst the rest of the fellowship had celebrated being back in safety's arms. Had it not been for Aragorn insisting on his return to the banquet hall perhaps his evening would not have been as perfect as he had planned. But fate had a funny way of working and such a twist of events had occurred. Perhaps such a forbidden love was no longer forbidden in the light of the moons watchful eye. When magic danced across pools of crystal light and the world of shadowed light played, a prince and a king were bound as one for eternity.
~*~ And we're dancing. ~*~
