Title: Differences in Life
Chapter: 1 - Shooting star of love! Grant me my wish!
Author: Sera Luanma
Disclaimer: Sailor Moon belongs to Naoko-sama and Harry Potter to J.K-sama. *prostrates self* I am not worthy!
A/N: Well, I figured I might as well try my hand at a HP/SM crossover. Though it has some cliché events in it, I hope my out-take is slightly different as it progresses. The senshi are now 17 and have defeated Chaos (About a week after Stars).Harry and Co. will be entering 7th year, also 17. Any questions I will try to clear up in the next chapter.

'A silver moon shines bright tonight...' Usagi thought as she sat on her rooftop in senshi form, absently stroking Luna's fur. She was depressed, unusual for her normally bright disposition. However, her thoughts lingered on the recent death of her beloved Mamo-chan from the shattering of his star seed. 'It was what made me love him this time around. It was always there, something that called to me...I doubt I'll see something like that again.' Her thoughts were interrupted by the streak of light in the sky.

"Wai...a shooting star! I wish..." her brows were drawn together as she thought, putting stock in the hope that her wish would come true. Her thoughts were still on her dead prince, but what came out of her mouth seemed like something from a different person. "I wish I could go where I would find love again." Usagi's eyes widened in shock. The voice didn't sound like hers...'Maybe I'm more tired than I thought.' Abruptly standing, and knocking the lunar cat onto the roof, Usagi ignored the muttered hisses as she swung into her bedroom, deactivating her transformation and crawling into bed.

Moments later, a disgruntled feline stalked into the room, muttering nasty threats to the softly snoring girl on the bed before curling up in the crook of her arms.

-----

"Usagi-chan! You have a letter!"

Usagi murmured sleepily as her name floated up the steps. She turned and pulled her sheets over her head, thanking Kami-sama it was Saturday. "Five more min-" she managed before dropping off again. Resigning herself to the inevitable, Luna leapt to the floor and trudged down the stairs, entering the kitchen and bleary making her way to the food bowl. Munching absently, she padded over to the table and used her teeth to gently pull out Usagi's letter, a thick parchment envelope protecting the contents from her mouth. Ignoring the odd look from Usagi's mom, Ikuko, she went back up the stairs and took a leap onto Usagi's head, sinking all claws in.

"WHAHAAAAAAA!!! Luna you're so mean!" Usagi screamed, sniffling slightly as she rubbed her head.

"Well, you're going to be late to the meeting if you don't hurry. Oh, and this letter came for you today."

Usagi picked up the strange bundle and opened it, quickly scanning the brief note on top.

Usagi looked up from the supply list in shock. "Luna, do you know anything about a wizarding school called Hogwarts?" The advisor's eyes widened and she nodded quickly.

"It has probably the most powerful Earthian alive as headmaster. You, as a Lunarian, most likely have more raw power at your disposal, but this man has been alive over a hundred years and has skills we may never know of."

"I've just been invited to study there for the next school term."

If it was possible, Luna's face looked even more shocked. "But how?! You never received your letter at 11 and didn't display any magical talent until you became Sailor Moon at 14. Are your parents wizards?" Usagi's faced became thoughtful.

"I don't know." Luna face faulted.

"Well, go and ask! It's important to know if this was from your parents or your Lunarian blood coming out of dormancy."

Cat and girl traveled downstairs slowly. Kenji looked up from his newspaper and his jaw dropped. Ikuko turned with a stack of pancakes and shrieked, sending them flying. Acting quickly, Kenji caught the china and managed to maneuver it under each flapjack, setting it to rest on the table. "USAGI! What are you doing up so early during summer break?!"

"I have to go to Rei's. Mom, Dad, I have to talk to you." Usagi's voice took on a serious note as she sat. "I got a letter from Hogwarts today. They say I'm a witch." Her parents looked at each other then at her. Ikuko's face softened.

"Usagi, sweetie. When I was pregnant with you, your father and I decided to leave the wizarding world and settle in our hometown of Juuban. The stress of being an auror was getting to be too much and the doctors feared I'd miscarry. We were all scared of Voldemort during that time...We thought it best to raise you and Shingo as a regular family. When neither of you received your entrance letter, we were even happier having not told you so you wouldn't be disappointed. We never meant to deceive you, honey." Usagi looked at her mother's worried face and struggled to absorb what she had been told, leaving some parts to ask about later.

"Well...They sent me a letter today and said I was accepted and would be in the level my skills were at. But I don't know anything about being a witch!" Her eyes teared up. "I'm always failing!" Her mother quickly moved around the table and enveloped her in a hug. She rubbed her back and quietly hurt at her daughter's tears.

"Don't worry, we'll train you this summer. Plus, I still have some wizarding friends who would gladly tutor you. As long as you're sure, you can go. Darling, it's such a wonderful experience and you learn so much. No matter what, me and your father are still proud of you." Gradually the sniffle quieted and Usagi looked up, blinking away the vestiges of her tears.

"Mom...Dad...I have some stuff to tell you about the past couple years..."

-----

Usagi luxuriated in the furo, letting the hot water soothe her weary mind and body. Across from her was her mother, hair pinned up and a blissful smile on her face. Usagi let her thoughts drift to earlier in the day and smiled, remembering the feeling of taking the world off her shoulders when she told her parents about being Sailor Moon. Of course, they were horrified at the risks she had took, without even a basic knowledge of defense, but her mother was so proud she had burst into tears. It had ended up with everyone crying when Shingo walked blearily into the room, took one look at his family, and walked back out, door slamming moments later. The rest of the day had included hurried preparations for the trip the next day and calls to her mother's old friends to tutor her for parts of the summer. The water stirred as her mother shifted and cracked an eye at her daughter.

"Ready to go to Diagon Alley tomorrow? We'll apparate there and rent a room for the day to get everything you need for the school year. It's in London, where Hogwarts is."

"I meant to ask you, mama, how will I go if I don't know any English?"

"A basic linguistic spell will take care of that. Your father was one of the top of his class in Charms. I was always better at Herbology, so I never minded his boasting." They shared a laugh and an air of contentment settled.

"So...will I be getting a wand?"

"Of course! Though you might excel at wandless magic if you haven't used one so far in the course of your using it. At least we won't need to get you an animal, you have Luna. But I think I'll get you a owl so you can write to us. We'll all miss you."

"I know. I'm not even sure what I'm going to tell the rest of the scouts yet." She heaved a deep sigh. "For all the arguments lately, it might be nice to get away, but they are the best friends I've ever had...and I'm going to miss them." She scrubbed at her face, determined not to cry again. "And with Mamoru dead..."

Ikuko grabbed her daughter's hand and spoke fiercely. "If it's one thing I learned in my time as a witch it was that things always happen for a reason. Right now, it might feel like the world is ending, but the wind from one door closing opens another. You have the chance to harness the power in you and do great things with it. Maybe even greater than Harry Potter. But never fear change. It will lead you to where you should be in life. Who knows, maybe you'll meet your 'True Love' at Hogwarts. That is where I met your father after all."

They shared another chuckle before Usagi asked another question. "Who exactly is Harry Potter?"

"Well, when I was an auror, there was an evil wizard, Voldemort, who wanted to take over the wizarding world and kill all the muggles. He went one night to Godric's Hollow, where the Potter family lived, and killed Lily and James Potter. But when he tried to kill their son, Harry, the magic back-fired and left him as a spirit. Harry became known as the one who defeated Voldemort. It was a great day for all of us."

"He sounds special."

"Yes, but is he a reincarnated princess of a forgotten kingdom with uncharted powers?"

"I hope not! Because then I'll have to resort to diplomacy to make an alliance of kingdoms."

"Yes, my daughter, the diplomat. Not a comforting thought." Ikuko fended off the wave of water headed her way and rose. "We're starting to look like prunes, time to get out and get some sleep before our exciting day tomorrow." They toweled off and said good-night. When Usagi got to her room, she saw Luna typing at the keyboard.

"What are you doing, Luna?" Usagi slipped into her pajamas and patted her cat on the head.

"Don't worry about it for now. I'm just trying to get an old program created by your mother up and running again." she spoke distractedly, intent on the coding on the screen in front of her.

"The Queen?"

"Yes. It should be ready by tomorrow. Go to sleep, Usagi. Tomorrow will be a busy day and you need to get up early."

"Aww...I don't wanna get up!" Seeing her friend had not noticed her whining, she sighed and slipped in the covers. "Just turn off the light when you're done." Usagi's last thought before drifting off was pleasant, but forgotten by morning.

/They put Serenity in my letter. I wonder how they knew?/

-----

Usagi bounced out of bed when her mother call up the stairs, sending Luna into seizures of shock. She hurriedly washed and changed into a nice pleated skirt and pink shirt. Small ankle boots and simple black robes lent to her by her mother were the last things she put on. Looking at her unbound hair in the mirror, she just stood and stared. Tsukino Usagi didn't look like herself. Puberty had been kind to her and she has finally gotten some curves to fill her skirt and blouse. The baby fat had basically melted off her face, leaving aristocratic features behind. Long hair was closer to silver than gold nowadays since her defeat of Chaos and stepping closer to Cosmos. The only thing that had her miffed was her height. Compared to most, she was short, measuring up to be only 5'4". Still staring, she gave a start when she noticed her mother behind her in the mirror.

"Mama..." she began.

Hefting her moon-touched tresses, Ikuko smiled proudly at her robe-clad daughter. "How about we try something different this time, okay?" Smiling, Usagi nodded and watched as her mother took out her wand and murmured a soft spell, hair following her waving commands and twisting itself into a French braid, exposing her slim features more clearly. Turning back to the mirror, Usagi touched a hand to her reflection and watched a tear move down her cheek. She swept it away impatiently. "Well? Are we going? I can't wait to see Diagon Alley!" Following her mother downstairs, she found Luna and draped her around her neck, holding her father's hand as he raised his wand and apparated them to the side of the Leaky Cauldron. Coughing slightly, Kenji grinned sheepishly. "Guess I need to brush up, ne?" Switching to English, he handed a small key to Ikuko.

"Pull some money out of the vault and get Usagi what she needs. I'm going to go to the Ministry and see about our Auror licensing. Should still be good for at least another five years." They separated and Usagi soon found herself trailing her mother, lost in the sights and sounds of her fist glimpse into the wizarding world. They made it to Gringotts and drew money out of the considerably sized vault filled with not only coins, but old trunks at the back. "Those are our family records. I never had time to look at them, but maybe this summer we'll bring them home and make a project out of them."

The trip back to the front was a rush and soon Usagi found herself of the steps of the huge white building with her own key to the vault and being ushered by her mother to Madame Malkin's Robes for All Occasions. Going in, they noticed there was hardly anyone there and were soon attended upon by the lady of the shop herself. Quickly measured for her standard school robes, Usagi was allowed to glance around the shop and see if she saw anything that interested her. Going into the cloaks, she pulled out a plain black one for school and a silver one that brought out the color of her hair and the pale blue of her eyes. She quickly passed the dress robes by since she had the Luna Pen and felt it a waste of money to buy anything else. Throwing a hat into the mix, it came up as 28 galleons. Waving goodbye, the women's next shop was Olivander's Wands.

Usagi walked in and was instantly hit by the feel of *old* magic permeating the room. A pale, mysterious man came up and greeted her mother pleasantly, quoting her wand. Glancing to Usagi as she stepped up, he drew in a sharp breath. "Lady Serenity!" She blushed when he bowed. Summoning up whatever royalty she had in her, she smiled at him warmly.

"No longer a princess, but still a Serenity."

"Well, I can still find a wand for you...hmm...difficult indeed." He muttered to himself and quickly took her measurements, fumbling along and pulling out a box. "8 inches, willow, emerald." When she swished it and nothing happened, he pulled it away quickly and kept handing them to her, seeming to get happier with the more wands she went through. Finally, he pulled out a decrepit looking case and handled the wand gently. "13 inches, diamond dust and Wyvern fang, rosewood." Taking it from him, she felt a warmth emanate from the smooth haft of the wand, feeling an answering pulse from her sigil on her forehead. A silver moon burst into existence and light filled the shop, outlining everything it touched in a lambent glow. Faintly, almost imperceptibly, an outline of a second moon, a black moon, flickered into existence and also pulsed with power. Sucking in a breath, Usagi *pulled* inwards with all her might, feeling the raw magic course up her arm and through her body. The wand, though, continued to emanate soft light. Both her mother and Mr. Ollivander stood in awe.

"Not just a Serenity, not just a princess." he murmured softly, Usagi barely catching it. Bowing again to her, he spoke louder. "We will see many things from you, Guardian...Both wonderful...and horrible." With that final note, they paid the 30 galleons and left the shop, both mother and daughter shaken. Seeing an ice cream shop, they bought Cream Pops and sucked the cold yogurt as they walked along. A group of boys nudged each other when she passed, puffing up adolescent chests and posturing. Hiding a grin, she winked at them and heard high-fives as she continued on.

They got Usagi's books for the year, her cauldron and scale, plus a hefty supply of potions ingredients on the threat of her needing them to practice for the potions part of the assessment test. Finally, exhausted and starving, they met up with Kenji at the Leaky Cauldron. They unloaded everything into their temporary room. Sitting down for a hearty dinner, Usagi cheerfully rambled about what they had seen and done that day. Waiting till she wound down, Kenji started in on his efforts, reverting to Japanese to keep the conversation semi-private.

"Well, it seems that their is Death Eater activity lately that the Minister is refusing to acknowledge. Mind you, this is coming from a professor at Hogwarts so I'm not sure about timing. Anyways, all aurors were told to stay at their posts and not relocate, infuriating Dumbledore who insists, based on something that happened to Harry Potter, that He has risen once more. When I went to the Auror's Licensing, the woman was more than happy to renew both of our permits for another 10 years. She didn't even ask for a refresher test. Strangest thing. But...from what I've been hearing, the community is divided. Some are taking added precautions and others don't seem to think anything is going on. It's a volatile mess and makes me glad we're still in Japan. That reminds me," he turned to Usagi, "I had an emergency portkey made that will transport you back home if an emergency comes up. Here," he pulled a small silver medallion from his robes. "It looks like a charm, but when you flip it and rub the back twice, you'll be pulled home and send us an alarm wherever we are. Don't use it lightly." Fingering the charm, Usagi flipped it to the front and saw a small snake with sapphire eyes glaring at her.

"Beautiful..." she sighed. She hugged her father's arm and resumed eating. "Daddy, since my birthday is in a coming up, do you think I can get that Firebolt at the Quidditch shop? I've always wanted to soar through the air..." she lowered her voice slightly, "Without transforming and flashing everyone." Kenji nodded and the rest of dinner was finished in silence. Going back to the rooms, Usagi's parents places charms on the load of packages to shrink them and lighten the weight, slipping them into pockets and clasping hands, dual cries of 'Apparate!' the last sound in the room.
