Author's notes- Never wrote Outsiders fanfiction, but I saw a Dallas/Johnny, and was inspired to write this. Hey, is there any Ponyboy/Johnny? And also, Darry/Two-Bit? I just thought of that whil thinking how it would go if people tried to pair them all up... Soda/Steve, Johnny/Dallas... so yeah.

Sometimes, Dally doesn't like being with Johnny. It's not that he doesn't like Johnny- it's just that sometimes, being with Johnny scares him. Johnny reminds him of something he can't quite place- sometimes if it's real quiet, he can look in Johnny's eye and feel a jolt of emotion, some emotion that isn't hate or anger, and Dallas doesn't like that. There's just something about Johnny, somethign so pure and innocent, that he can't stand having too much of. He can't afford to risk it. So he continues to shoplift and fuck bleached blondes, because it's easier than feeling. Who needs it, anyway. Itr's not going to help anything. Loving Johnny wouldn't cure him, even if Johnny would love him back.

But every once in a while, Dally feels like he's growing crazy and the only reason he can think of is that he hasn't seen Johnny in too long. So he goes and visits him- sleeping outside, watching the stars and smoking, sitting on the curb with Ponyboy and sometimes Sodapop. And that time in the old church, after Johnny... Dallas couldn't believe Johnny really killed a Soc. Thee first time he heard, when Johnny and Pony came up to him, asking for help... he felt a surge of pride. Now, he realized how stupid he was. Johnny still had a chance. Johnny still wasn't screwed up like Dallas was; he could try and make something out of his life. Well, he could at least finish school. But killing people, getting in fights and stealing...that wasn't the life Johnny was meant to be living. Dallas had to tell him. He had to. Next time he saw Johnny, he'd take him by force (if he was feeling better...) and force him to listen. He'd tell Johnny just how great he was, and why didn't the little punk see it, why did he have to listen to his fuckedup parents, couldn't the kid see how much people diged him? He'd tell Johnny, he promised. He'd tell Johnny just how mcuh he meant to everyone.. and most of all Dallas. And maybe Dallas meant something to Johnny, as well.

Well, ain't that the way life always happens. Whenever the they they're going to make things different, something comes along to screw it up. In this case- they died, if you remember correctly.
