Disclaimer: CCS belongs to Clamp, Kodansha and I'm playing around with their masterpiece.
Author's notes: I'm terrifyingly sleepy. I took some tea so it's hopefully going to be okay. Ugh, I've been ignoring this too much. Need a beta reader.
*Everyone is changing
There's no one left that's real*
Tomoyo yawned. Her adorable little mouth opened as she exhaled. Her eyelids drooped. Slowly the world started to blur. It was too hard not give in to the drowsiness. Her head slightly fell backwards.
"You can sleep if you want to," her uncle smiled.
"Thank you, sir," she replied rather coldly but with politeness.
Her heart still stung.
Her head slowly fell backwards on the head of the seat. Her head rested on it. Before her eyes shut, a sign flashed before her eyes:
Welcome, to Tomoeda.
*To make up your own ending
And let me know just how you feel*
They were best friends. Some people wondered why. He was 4 years older than her. He was a boy, she was a girl. She was calm and quiet, he was active and more of a talker. She wasn't very outgoing and he, on the other hand, enjoyed outdoor activities. There was something not right; or so the people thought.
But they got along perfectly. They enjoyed each other's company. They became friends when she was 8 and he was 12. She never talked very much. She was known as the sweet, quiet girl.
They had things in common and were often pleased with little.
She couldn't stop thinking about him. There was that one time he bought her an Popsicle (probably on her 9th birthday), she had once bought him a watch (she said he'd look gentleman like with one since he was wearing a suit to a party), she remembered that time they went shopping and the time he took her swimming.
He had a bigger friends circle than she did. It still makes you wonder what they found in each other.
They had feelings for each other at least they were starting to. No one them ever confessed since they were friends and wanted to keep it that way. Besides, whoever heard of a 16 year old dating a 12 year old. She'd be embarrassed at the thought of it and he'd laugh thinking that he'd ever be so foolish. The age gap was dangerous. At least, at that age.
They never let anything come between them, they both understood that they had other things to do. But no matter what they were still friends. But now, it seemed to her that there was no question of a friendship between the two now.
It was sad thing that things had to end between the two in this way.
*Cause I am lost without you
I cannot live at all*
She didn't know what was going to happen. She tried to avoid changes as often she could. She didn't know how she was going to deal with all this over her head. Time heals all things. She had wait for everything to be healed.
Maybe, he was going to write to her and explain everything. She was his best bud, right? He was going to write to her. Or she would write to him. Friendships aren't so fickle. Especially at these positions.
*My whole world surrounds you
I stumble then I crawl*
~* Flashback *~
"Eriol," she said tentatively, sitting on the swing.
"Hoe," he muttered assuming his position from behind.
"I don't like being on swings alone."
"Oh, chill," he laughed at the 10 year old girl's words. "I'm not going to let you fall."
"But I . . ." sweat trickled down from her forehead.
"You trust me don't you," he smiled at her warmly. She grinned back at him.
"Can't say I don't."
"Then be prepared." He took a deep breath. "Go!" He pushed her back vigorously. He took a step or two backwards in case she crashed into him.
She went up high (she didn't float in the clouds or anything) and screamed.
"Are you okay?" He asked frantically.
"Oh fine," she panted. "I just hate heights."
"Sorry. I shouldn't have forced you when I knew you didn't like heights. I don't what I'd do with myself if you fell."
"You'd catch me," she giggled. He agreed.
*You could be my someone
You could be my scene*
"You have to stop making these comments," Tomoyo told Urusa, the gossipmonger. "I don't like him."
"I can understand," she said. "You have Eriol."
Tomoyo wasn't really rude. But she was being really persistent. Tomoyo didn't like it when people took things out of the context. She was about to open her mouth.
"Urusa," Miyuki scolded. "Leave the poor girl alone."
"Thanks," Tomoyo whispered.
"Anything for a friend."
The bell rang as the students rushed out. Tomoyo quietly picked up her books.
"Umm . . . Tomoyo?"
"Hai," she lifted her head up, wondering what she wanted to say.
"Don't be offended but you do like him, don't you?"
Tomoyo blinked. She rushed out of the door, pretending to be in a hurry.
"See you later!"
*You know that I will save you
From all of the unclean*
"You must be doing a great service," Keiko told Eriol.
"Excuse me."
"You know what I mean," she had an evil grin on her face. "Helping that handicapped girl."
Eriol glared at her.
"Oh come on," she rolled her eyes. "Don't tell me you think her being quiet is normal."
"On the bright side," he quipped. "She doesn't have a foul mouth like you."
People sometimes got the wrong notions towards their relationship, it was most unfortunate. Eriol had to speak up against it.
They obviously would see to it that all this wouldn't get within her earshot but they teased him about it. At an age where hormones were acting, people did get wrong notions about it. He told her about it; she advised him not care.
He did love her, though. It occurred to him one day when he woke up.
Who did he like without all barriers? Tomoyo, of course.
Who did he adore most? Tomoyo.
Whom did he never scold and always defended? Tomoyo.
Whom did he come close to loving? Tomoyo.
And if anybody asked if any girl was in his life, the answer most likely would be- Tomoyo.
He told himself nobody was ready for this. He had to keep it to himself till she came of age. It wouldn't be right if they started dating now. He was willing to wait.
*I wonder what you're doing
I wonder where you are
There's oceans in between us
But that's not very far*
Eriol looked out his window in grief. He wished things were still simple. He wished he could have turned back time. He'd try his best and work things out. After all, wasn't that what friends were for? But there would be problems as always. The odds weren't looking too good.
*Nobody told me what you thought
Nobody told me what to say*
She stirred in her sleep. She could hear screams downstairs.
"MOM!" She recognised the voice in an instant. "Don't you trust me?"
She was probably taking his words into her mind. Tomoyo ran down the stairs.
"Mrs Hiragizawa?"
Tomoyo wiped away her tears.
"What do you suppose will happen now?" She asked him quietly.
She sat on the comfy couch in the drawing room. The funeral had been hard.
"Eriol?" She called softly.
"Huh?" He stopped staring at the fire. He looked at her.
"What do you think will happen now?"
"I don't know." He sighed, burying his face into his hands.
"Eriol?"
"Yes, dear."
She blushed.
"You're mom was yelling at you two days ago. Was it because you and I ..."
Eriol knew what she was trying to say.
He looked away, wincing.
*Everyone showed you where to turn
Told you when to runaway
Nobody told you where to hide
Nobody told you what to say
Everyone showed you where to turn
Showed you when to runaway*
Eriol got annoyed at his mom. She was trying to manipulate Tomoyo. Trying to tempt her about how Tomoeda was a nice place and how she had family there. Tomoyo asked him if she could stay.
~* Flashback *~
"Eriol," she called. Her sneaker played with the fallen leaves. "What would you say if I said I wanted to live with you?"
Eriol chuckled to himself.
"I'd be okay with it," he shrugged.
"Would I be of any bother?"
Eriol looked at her, raising an eyebrow.
"What makes you think that?"
"We're two different people ..."
"Ah, madam noticed it," he cut in.
"No, no. I'm serious. You have things to do in your life." She looked thoughtful for a while. "You have a more active life than I do. I know I can't burden by constantly pestering you to hang out with me so would it be okay if I live with you. I mean, I know your parents may not ..."
Eriol held her chin with his two index fingers.
"Tomoyo, it's going to be sorted out."
~* Flashback end *~
Eriol sighed. He knew about this yet he didn't have the heart to tell her. Life sucked.
*This pain you gave to me
You take it all
You take it all away...*
Tomoyo yawned.
"Are we there, uncle?"
The car stopped.
"Yeah, honey."
Tomoyo groaned getting out of the car. The road was rather slippery. Her shoes kicked the puddle in front of her. She chuckled to herself at the memories.
She looked up at her smiling uncle. She followed him to door. She rang the doorbell.
"Dad!" An auburn haired girl greeted.
"Keep it down Kaijou!" An older boy with black hair spoke.
"Touya ..." her uncle warned.
Tomoyo was standing.
"Come on now," he reached his hand out to her. She held it. "This is Touya and Sakura."
"You do know which one is which?" The boy joked.
"I believe so."
Tomoyo sighed. The dinner was good and she enjoyed helping out. True, she was upset but there was nothing much to say. She closed her eyes.
She took up the violet pen in her hand and laid the paper on a hardboard. She put the pen on the paper, yet there was hesitation. It felt so damn stupid.
Dear Eriol,
How are you?
She snorted at the first sentence, Eriol had once made a joke about the popular sentence. She let out a sigh before starting again. Hopefully, more intelligent sentences would be produced on the paper with the pen's help.
I hope I'm not bothering you. You have got the time for me, don't you? I'm sorry, my bitterness is immature and bothersome but I can't stop it.
You didn't even give me a proper goodbye. You weren't even telling what was going on, why? Was there some problems? I would have understood. You could have at least told me about social services. I thought you knew that I didn't like getting my hopes high only in order to seem them shatter. I just wish you had told me before. There were days when I looked at you and wondered what was happening. You weren't talking to me, you seemed really perplexed. What was the matter? Was it that bad?
We're friends, aren't we? We're bound to have different lives. I always knew that and I accepted it. I know you couldn't really tell them anything but I still can't fathom the fact that you didn't tell what was happening. I was being pulled away and my arms were bruised. Sakura gave me balm for that. She's my cousin. She's a lovely person.
I'm still confused, even though I left Tokyo about an hour ago. It's all blurry in my head. It happened fast and I can still feel the powerlessness.
Maybe I am dense for writing to you. Maybe you did want me out of your life. You could have just told me ...
How is Mr and Mrs Hiragizawa? Fine, I hope.
I don't really have much to write. Silly, aren't I?
I guess I'm going to be happy here with my family. They're nice people. Maybe I'll send a photo of them. Would you like that?
I'm really sorry if I'm bothering you. I really need to talk. I really need you right now.
Even if we end up completely ignoring each other, I'll remember you. I'll remember all the nice things you've done for me. I'll always have our memories. That's something no one can take away from me.
Enough with the babbling. Write to me. Write anything.
Yours affectionately,
Tomoyo.
*Explain to me again.*
