Angel of Light: laughs at Cody
Cody: Very funny………
Angel of Light: It is, isn’t it.
Cody: It’s called sarcasm.
Angel of Light: ……..
Cody: Her new initials are now D.O.D.
Angel of Light: Geez Cody, get you’re grammar strait. It’s D.I.D. And yes…I know that I‘m a damsel in distress.
Cody: sweat drop I meant D.O.D. Devil of Darkness…….
Angel of Light: Very funny. Anyways…..This is the long awaited(?) sequel to Why Me? I’m flattered that so many people wanted a sequel….THANKS GUYS! Oh, and ARCHANGEMON, I’ll be using some of you’re ideas…I really like them! I was actually stuck on what to do….but now I know! Also, if you haven’t read the other fic, Why me? Then you won’t understand a thing about this one, well, maybe. But it would be a good idea.
Kari woke, only to remember that she wasn’t at home. She was in a dark, musty cave, that was now dripping with water, as it was raining heavily outside. She was cold, wet, tired, and just about every other negative emotion that was in existence. The only comfort she got was form the two small digimon. Patamon, and Gatomon. She smiled, as they were sleeping peacefully. This was surprising, because peace was a hard commodity to come by these days.
She sighed, and sat up. Kari’s mind began to wander off to who knows where. Many memories and thoughts flooded her head. Normally, the girl would have slipped into a heavy depression considering the circumstances, but she was determined not to end up like him. She wouldn’t let herself become a slave to the darkness. Yes, this whole mess was her fault, and she knew it. The boy would probably never want to see her again. She didn’t care, as long as she got him back. Actually, he had already stated very clearly that he never wanted to see her again.
A soft purr brought her back to reality. Kari looked down at the two sleeping digimon, who weren’t really sleeping anymore. Gatomon stretched and whacked Patamon in the face with her tail, the ring making it more painful for him. He woke up with a start.
“Hey!” he cried in his squeaky voice, “watch where you out that thing!”
Gatomon only smirked. Maybe it wasn’t an accident……
“Well, it’s good to see that you two are finally awake.” Kari said softly.
The two sat up, and both gave ridiculous smiles.
“Yup!” they chimed in unison.
“You seem rather cheery, especially in a place at a time like this.”
“Well, I think it was you who once told me: ‘Don’t worry, be happy, and think happy thoughts!’” Gatomon remarked
“Gatomon, I was eight”.
“So?”
Kari sighed. They weren’t getting anywhere. She gazed longingly at the gaping mouth of the cave. Every part of her heart and body screamed at her to go find the boy, and bring him back, but her mind shrieked at her to stay in the cave, where it was safe. Kari was glad that Patamon had somehow made his way to them, as he might prove to be a powerful weapon in changing Takeru.
“Well guys, I think we should head out…..” she said softly.
“So, what are we going to do?” Patamon asked
Kari looked down. “I’m not quite sure…..”
The two digimon looked at each other. Obviously the girl had been hurt, badly. She wasn’t going to admit it, and they saw that too.
“Maybe we should go back to the beach.” The cat-like digimon suggested. “If he’s not there, we can stay there for a bit. If he is, maybe it would be a good idea to keep a slight distance, let him see us, but not talk. He can’t be totally taken over, there has to be some of the old T.K. in there somewhere.”
Kari nodded, and the trio headed down the gloomy path to the even more dreaded beach.
As they walked, Kari slipped back into her deep thought. She had been hurt far worse than anyone could ever imagine. Maybe not as much as Takeru, but enough to drive anyone to perpetrate the death of themselves. She had been hurt emotionally when he left. Not as much at first, but it became stronger as she found out the cause. One of the reasons she hadn’t noticed it, was because she was in denial. The things he said and did made her feel like she was someone worth something. He had always said he saw her as a friend, and she assumed that he thought nothing more. She had liked him at first, but she denied the fact that he would ever see her in that way. Kari saw herself as being not good enough, not worthy. That’s where it all started. Well, the fact that she wasn’t very secure with herself didn’t help either, but that all ties into one.
When Willis came, it was as if someone had put a spell over her. She saw Takeru as being perfect, someone she would never be good enough for. She had seen herself as one with many flaws. As she looked back on it, she couldn’t figure out why she ad been so drawn to him. Maybe it was the fact that he had so many of the qualities T.K. had, but also maybe because he seemed less perfect, like she had more of a chance with him. Maybe, she would never know.
What hurt her the most, was how she had just forgotten all about T.K. He was her best friend in the whole world, and she treated the dirt she walked on better than she treated him. At least, that was how she saw it when looking back. The only thing that kept her from committing suicide from being so disgusted with herself, was the fact that she knew she was the only thing that could save him. She now realized how much she loved him, and would rather suffer through life seeing him with someone else, than have him suffer because of her.
Sleeping in a cold, clammy cave didn’t help much. Instead, it fed into the depressing moo.
As well as being emotionally wounded, Kari wasn’t feeling all that great physically either. The ground was hard and uneven, making it very difficult to get a good night’s sleep. Since the digimon were smaller, it didn’t effect them as much. They were also very used to this.
Kari’s body ached with every step. Her muscled screamed at her to stop, and she ached all over. She also had a raging headache, and Asprin isn’t something that you can find in the digital world.
Through the pain, she walked on. Gatomon sat perched in her shoulder, and Patamon flew above them.
Finally, the forest stopped, and the endless sea of sand appeared. The ocean itself was not like one in the real world. The only resemblance to one tat we would see, is that is was made of water.
The ocean was about as inviting as a bed made of nails and fire. And yet, it seemed to draw those who came near it into it’s depths, which were contaminated and diluted with darkness. Even the beach held a dreary air about it. The sand wasn’t a warm yellow, but a dark, colourless shade of grey. It went well with it’s ocean counterpart.
Kari’s eyes grazed across the horizon, then onto the endless beach. Some cliffs ran around the sandy passageway, which held many punctures and fractures, from where the water had taken it’s toll.
Her eyes rested upon a rather large cave. As she continued to stare, it became all too familiar to her. Flashback’s of her first visit to this horrid place came to memory.
While she was watching it, a figure came out. She knew it wasn’t Takeru, for it was too dark, too evil. As soon as it came out, the air seemed heavy, and it became almost hard to breathe. Another figure came out, and Hikari’s heart leapt as she realized that this time, it was Takeru. He seemed to be looking out onto the ocean. His gaze turned to her, and though he was far away, she could feel him watching her.
“He’s here”, she muttered.
Patamon looked out at him, and felt his very being go to the boy. He knew how Kari felt, for he had a bond with the boy that was unbreakable, at least, that is what they had always said. Now, it seems, that bond would be put to test.
Kari noticed the digimon, and her heart went out to him. In her sorrows, she had forgotten how much this had affected him too.
“C’mon, Patamon. We should go over there somewhere. I saw some rocks as we came in, and they looked like a good place to rest….” Kari said.
Patamon nodded, and turned with them. He took one last longing glance at the boy, then completely turned.
Takeru came out of the cave, along with some of the scubamon. He wasn’t sure what they were going to do, but he decided he would follow them. They seemed at home in the Dark Ocean, and they told him that he should to. He agreed with them, but there was something inside of him that was holding him back, something that he couldn’t understand.
He looked out onto the water’s surface, seemingly looking for something. The scubamon had told him that they’re great undersea master dwelled there. They said he would be happy with the boy, but for some reason, Takeru felt afraid. He got frustrated and angry with himself, as he couldn’t figure it out.
He continued to watch the ocean, as if expecting something to happen.
As he was watching, he felt something inside of him. All of a sudden, he felt something flash through him, a feeling, as if someone was drawing him to them. He turned his head, only to find the girl. His face wrinkled in disgust as he saw her. He had told her to go away. So, why was she still here? He knew she hated this place, he knew it was the one place she would never come, even if her life depended on it. But why was she here?
Takeru looked at her, suddenly feeling the need to go to her, to hold her, to feel her body against his. He kicked himself for feeling like this. She had hurt him, and he could never forgive her. He didn’t care about her anymore. But, why did he feel so strongly?
Another thing caught his attention. The girl was not alone. There was something hovering above her. Patamon………………..
He shook his head. His friend, his only friend, had sided with the one who had destroyed him, the one who killed him. He was all alone now.
The three sat upon the rocks, the waves lapping against them with in a strange, soothing way. Yet again, Kari’s mind wandered. She was in the place she hated most, the place she would not come, even if her life depended on it. Though, her life didn’t depend on it, but someone else’s did…………………Takeru.
Patamon watched the waved break against the rocks. He couldn’t bear to see T.K. like that, the innocent T.K. that would never do anything wrong, the older T.K. that hated evil with everything he had. He had become a slave to the thing he was determined to destroy.
Gatomon sighed, “Really guys, this is depressing…”
Kari looked at her. “You’re right. We have no reason to be depressed. We’re in such a cheery little place, and life is just so good right now. In fact, it couldn’t be better!” She said this with exaggerated sarcasm.
“Look, I know these aren’t the best of times, but we have to look beyond this. He’s the child of hope, and you’re light. I know you know that, but it seems you’ve forgotten. Azulongmon once told us that light cannot survive without hope, and hope will not thrive without light. So either you both go, or you both stay.”
Kari looked at the cat digimon, astonished, as did Patamon. She was usually quiet, and didn’t say too much. What she had just said, had a surprising impact on the two of them.
The girl opened her mouth to say something, but something caught her attention.
“What?” asked Gatomon.
All she could do was point.
The ocean suddenly came to life. It glowed brilliantly with many ruby-like objects. Normally, one would think that such a sight would be beautiful, but this was nothing of the sort. It glowed eerily. It would be the equivalent to watching the stars fall to the Earth, striking, but terrifying.
The glowing red mass edged close to the water’s edge. The three ran and hid behind the rocks, but peered out to see what was happening. On the beach, legions of scubamon immerged from the dark waters. Some of them stopped, and turned towards the hiding group. Three of them walked over.
Kari was terrified. They had obviously been spotted. She and the digimon turned to run, but there were already some waiting for them.
