Chapter 1
Chosen
He had dreamt about them again. He had dreamt about icy caves, volcanoes, and drowning in the sea. Yet, no matter how scary his dreams were, they always brought him a sense of protection. He could sometimes hear someone singing through the silence of his dreams, a sad lullaby that often soothed him.
He preferred being alone and enjoyed the silence and privacy. Though some of the orphanage children often thought he needed "company." He didn't mind playing with Irvine, as the boy sometimes liked the silence too. The only problem with that was that it made Seifer jealous. The blonde did always need to be the center of attention, though he couldn't understand how that involved Irvine playing with him. Zell was much too annoying, he couldn't like a boy who whined all the time and told Matron about everything they did. Selphie was far too hyper for her own good, it would be her undoing someday. Quistis was bossy, that was the only way to describe her... unless you used "tomboy," too. But that one made her angry.
It had been a couple of days since Sis had disappeared and he had tired of not doing anything. The other children didn't do much to comfort him, acting as though she was only gone for a little while... but, he knew better. She was gone, and she wasn't coming back. The thought always made him sad, though he rather not share it with anyone, the very idea of never seeing Sis again made him want to cry.
He had run out of the orphanage that day, declaring he was going out to find Sis. The search had been quick and rather useless, since there werent many places to go. Walking back to the orphanage, he had seen a man speaking to Matron. He could remeber asking Matron who the man was and going back inside after being told to.
You're the only Squall allowed here.
He couldn't remember... past that...
Watching his younger self walk back into the orphanage, Squall Leonhart smiled bitterly. He glanced at the sky and concentrated on a cloud, he could feel the sorceress attempting to hold on to her life for a little longer. There was a grim smile set on his face as he searched through the threads of his magic and woke Diablos from his slumber.
Forgive me, Matron.
He watched as the Time Guardian materialized in front of him. Watched as the demon intercepted the sorceress' powers, gathering the magic into a tight ball, and flying towards the orphanage. Not even bothering to stop as Matron began screaming at him.
You're the only Squall allowed here.
And that was the problem. Wasn't it?
Meeting the sorceress' hateful gaze, he felt his lips curl into a sneer. Even as the sounds of screaming children filled the sky. Even as the world around him began to shatter. Even as waves of pain rocked his body.
Because it was finally over... the line of sorceresses had died.
You're the only Squall allowed here.
And that was the problem... Wasn't it?
Author's Notes: How every drone! That was short, boring, and sort of... pointless? Maybe not. Oh well. The next chapter should be up a minute after this one! ^.^
