"Soaring Upwards"

Chapter 1: Not A Creature Stirring. . . Well, Almost
"No, no, no. . . That's too far to the left-"
"Shut up Padfoot, I know what I'm doing."
"Actually, Prongs, I think Padfoot's right. That's a little too far to the left."
"Fine, lover-boys, *you* do it." James left the half constructed hex in the air and gestured for Remus and Sirius to finish it. Remus sighed and pulled out his wand.
"Look, Prongs. You want to do it like this." Remus quickly constructed the hex and hung it in the air.
"How's the Map look, Wormtail?" Sirius hissed at the blonde boy farther back in the corridor. Peter looked up and grinned at them. He gave them a thumbs-up and then turned back to the Map.
"Ok, are we set here?" Sirius looked over the hex, which was slowly disappearing. It would still be there, but would be invisible. Remus smiled at him.
"Yes. Why? The dungeon corridors give you the creeps?" he playfully asked his boyfriend. James snickered.
"No, they make me cold. Lets go get food from the kitchens and then go back to the Tower. We'll see the results of this little bit of maraudering in the morning at breakfast." Sirius said. He slung one arm around James' shoulders and slid the other around Remus' waist. "Shall we, boys?"
"If the Slytherins even show up for breakfast tomorrow. They might just go strait to the train for the start of Christmas break." Peter said when his three friends joined him at the corner.
"Well, even if they don't show up at breakfast, we'll be there to see the train off, even if we aren't going back with them." Sirius grinned sinisterly.
"Ok, so where now? Bed?" Peter asked. James shook his head.
"Nah. Lets go get food. I for one didn't get dinner." he said, pushing his glasses back up his nose. Sirius released Remus and threw James into a head lock.
"You ain't the only one," he said, giving his best friend a noogie, "who had Quidditch practice!" James yelled and desperately tried to get away from Sirius.
"Moony, help!" he gasped. Remus smiled and shook his head.
"I may be able to distract him, but I don't want a noogie either, Prongs." he said, still smiling. Sirius laughed and released James.
"Aww, I wouldn't *dare* give you a noogie, Remmie." Sirius told him, grinning. He put an arm around Remus' waist and the four boys headed toward the kitchens, James rubbing his head.

Lily looked up from her book when James, Peter, Remus and Sirius entered their dorm room. She'd been looking for James a little bit earlier and, unable to find him, and decided to camp out on his bed with a book and wait for their return.
They entered loudly, James and Sirius in the middle of reciting part of a muggle movie, Peter and Remus laughing so hard they could hardly walk. Their hands were full of food, and Lily could see that their pockets were also full.
"Hi, boys. Took you long enough. What were you doing?" she asked, sitting up and laying the book, Watership Down, beside her on the bed. James halted in his recitation of lines and grinned at her.
"Well, *hello* Princess, to what do we owe the honor of your visit?" Sirius drawled before James could say anything. Lily fell into her 'part,' looking down her nose at the four of them.
"Another word out of you, Mr. Black, and I shall have you beheaded." She said regally.
"You don't scare me, Swamp Mistress!" Sirius howled, grinning.
"My dear Mr. Potter." Lily said airily. James suddenly came to attention.
"Yes, my lady?" he asked.
Lily felt a smile tugging at her lips, but she suppressed it. "Off with his head." she declared lightly, waving at Sirius.
Peter had walked over and was sitting on his bed, watching the show. Remus joined him, and they watched as James pretended to draw a sword and swing it at Sirius.
"Ack!" Sirius fell backwards, his hands clutching at his neck. "Oh, the pain! O, the horror!" he turned his head and reached out a hand to Remus. "My love, only you can save me now!" he moaned. James pretended to raise the sword again.
Peter pushed Remus toward their two friends. He didn't need anymore urging. Remus came up behind James and pretended to pull a dagger out of his belt. As Lily gave an anguished cry of "My love!" Remus pretended to drive the dagger into James' side. As James dropped the 'sword' and staggered sideways, Remus knelt by the 'dying' Sirius.
"My time is short. My love, tell me you love me. Kiss me one last time before I die." Sirius gasped.
"Padfoot, you're squishing the Cauldron Cakes." Remus told him. The other four people burst out laughing. Peter clapped.
"What an ending to the tragic drama!" he howled. Remus grinned down at Sirius, who had yet to move, and shrugged.
James joined Lily on the bed and pulled the treats that the house elves had given him out of his pockets. Come here, Pete, come on, you two, lets eat!" he called to Sirius and Remus.
Remus leaned down and kissed Sirius lightly on the lips, then grabbed his hands and pulled him to his feet. The two made their way to James' bed and sat down, emptying their pockets.
The Cauldron Cakes were indeed squished, but still edible. "Thank the gods for plastic wrap." Was all James had said about it.
*** Later that night. . .
"Ok, Prongs, out with it. What did Lily want?" Sirius asked as the four boys were finally getting ready for bed. James smiled happily.
"There's been a change in my plans. Lily's parents have invited me over for Christmas. My dad's in the area right now anyway, and he plans to be there for the whole of break, so I'm going to 'meet the parents' and see my dad." James said.
"So it'll be just Remmie, me and Pete here?" Sirius asked.
"Ah, no actually." Peter spoke up. "My aunt and uncle want me to see them during break. I got the owl at dinner, and forgot to tell you guys."
Sirius couldn't believe his luck. Christmas break alone with Remus! He grinned at his boyfriend. Remus smiled back. //This is gonna be great!// Sirius thought. Remus turned to James.
"Well, we'll come and see you off on the train. It'll give us a good excuse to see the Slytherins in their new rainbow colored fur." Remus grinned. James laughed and blew out the candles illuminating the dorm room.
(A/N: Ok, all, please review, and I'll type up the next chapter as soon as we're done writing it!)
