Only one

By Ophelia Winters

Disclaimer: All hail Natsuki Takaya, creator of Fruits Basket! Hearing Lifehouse's 'Only One' and that episode in CCS where Syaoran confirms that Sakura would find that special someone inspired me.

Yuki sighed as he closed his eyes. His arms crossed on the pillow and his head fell back on them.

He could feel her lips playing on his. They had a soothing strawberry taste. Her soft fingers crept up his shirt. Her lips twisted into a grin while he snaked her arms around her waist.

"Damn daydreams," he'd mutter to himself. He'd quickly open his eyes soon after.

He tried several times to brush these thoughts away. He tried to pretend that this was all just a phase. No girl, not even Tohru, made him feel this way. She was the only one. He felt that he needed to protect her.

It started that day. It was her birthday. Everyone had been decorating her house. It turned out she locked the door of her bedroom by the time her party was about to start.

Everybody banged on the door, the stupid cat yelled and yelled. Tohru and Momiji tried to sweet-talk her. Shigure even tried some dirty words with her (apparently he had just said he'd give her something special if she came out in a smooth tone but Yuki and Kyou beat him up anyway). Nothing worked.

Yuki took a ladder upto her window. Thankfully, it wasn't locked.

He crept inside to find her lying on the bed, crying. Her face was buried in a pillow. She told him to go away. She didn't turn violent but she pleaded that she be left alone. He sat down on her bed.

He comforted her, soothed her and told her it was her special day and she should be happy. She sobbed about Kyou. He asked if he had been an asshole or something. She replied in negative and said she realized it was never going to work out- her and Kyou. Kyou needed Tohru; she couldn't give him what he needed. He could understand her pain.

He lay down next to her, explaining that everything turns out for the best. He told himself the same thing when he realized it. He said that someday, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, maybe not even the day after tomorrow, she'd find someone. Someone special who'd give up everything for her. One day, if she truly believed, it would happen.

She thanked him politely and told him he had been very kind. She bent down on his lips for a chaste kiss. They did kiss. At first, it was just simple. They didn't have any look on their faces . . . it just seemed to be normal. For some reason, he felt like deepening the kiss. She returned it. She wasn't rough as one expected. She was docile and feminine as her name suggested. It lasted long enough for Yuki to get certain notions. He put his hand on her face as she withdrew softly. She quietly told him she wasn't ready for this. She needed time.

She had been vulnerable and he felt stupid for kissing her like that. But when they kissed, Yuki felt warmth and something just clicked.

He could still taste her mouth. The smell of strawberries got him intoxicated. Unfortunately, Shigure had caught him one day looking like that and asked him what was going on in his perverted mind. He rolled his eyes and walked away.

He couldn't deny his feelings for her. He wanted to hold her. He wanted to make her happy. He was falling for her more and more each day.

It had been 2 days since her birthday. He saw her yesterday walking on the beach with a sweet smile, pretending to be happy and carefree while she hurt inside. He understood. Though like him she faked smiles, deep inside she hurt badly.

She wasn't ready for anything right now. She wanted to heal and time heals everything. Until time healed her, he'd have to do with these impure thoughts.
