ASHITARE AND HIS ROLE by Venus-reina

Ashitare only appeared a mere number of episodes in the series. Although a villain portrayed as total evil, this is not true. As many of the villains are seen in a bad light he is no exception. He's just a pawn in Nakago's cause, so, why am I going on and on about him?

True, I am not his greatest fan. And yet this wolfman is able to morph into human like form, he is able to call that power. That is power! Who else around can shapeshift? Because his role is to kill Miaka and Nuriko, he's only given few minutes of limelight, this light which sucks totally. Nobody sympathizes with an ugly non-charismatic killer.. But think, is he such an evil wolf? Wolves according to given records in documentaries are said to be very misunderstood. They're not bloodthirsty killers, in fact I like wolves because they have such soulful looking eyes. The fact is they hate eating human blood.

Ashitare is also not handsome like the others, but can you blame him for that? In fact he reinforces this fact-seishi are Chosen by the Gods, and they have a purpose. The author wants to show that not all seishi must be goodlooking in order to protect the miko. Or is that the sole reason for us to like Fushigi Yuugi, which isn't fair for our wolf brother.

This guy was blackmailed into killing others, and not because he wants to do it. He is a reluctant warrior for the cause and caught up in the endless struggle of survival of the fittest seishi in the long war. Most of the villains in any case, whether this show or not, are and have a reason to be bad. They want vengeance, they're threatened with a loved one, with death.. Not all these are motives of total evils. Even Nakago isn't without his story to tell. I say we give this guy a chance! I won't ask you to support him instantly, but take another side peek at Ashitare, Miboshi too? Would ya?

Ok ,I dedicate this to my friend SiriousB1 who sympathizes with him. And why should we not like the underdog?
