Chapter 1: Shattered
Skitzo-phrenick (me)
A certain blue-haired girl was finishing her rounds of work and was almost done doing her filing and ushering for the day. Yes, it was very hard to be the grim reaper, but she had always managed to finish her work with a smile still plastered on her face. But today she was especially happy, for today she was going to tell the man she loved her feelings. She caught a glimpse of him as he made a couple of orders to his workers. Soon she felt that all to familiar heat rise to her face and her cheeks began to flush.
She has been thinking of what she was going to say for the past month now, and it was starting to bug her and get her even more stressed then before. ‘What if it comes out wrong?! Oh, I’ll never be able to forgive myself!’ Botan thought, as she was finishing up around the Spirit World, ‘I hope I don’t screw things up!’
An hour had passed since she last checked on her beloved. She wanted to make sure he was in a good mood the day she told him her deep and inmost secret. Confessing her love to him would be easier said then done. She was going to try and hide all signs of nervousness and fear, as she would let him know that he held her very heart. Her confession would be clear cut and perfect.
As she began to head toward her love’s office, her palms began to perspire. ((IN CASE SOME OF YOU DIMWITS DON’T KNOW: THAT’S SWEAT!!!!)) Her vision began to grow blurry and her throat began to grow dry. The door a head of her was unopened. Before she had managed to reach the door, her legs had gone weak in the knees, making it harder for her to do what she was planning. Once her hand had rested on the doorknob, she hesitated for a brief moment. Then with all the willpower she possessed, she slowly opened the door. It gave off as slight creaking sound at its slow movement.
She made a loud gulp as she looked at her love sitting behind his table with a look of thoughtfulness. He had a stern expression placed on his face as if something big was on his mind. "Um… Koenma sir," she started hopping that she wasn’t disturbing anything. She was unable to hide her nervous tone of voice. "Yes, Botan," his voice rang out. "Um… Sir, I came to ask you something."
"Well, what is it?" She steadied her self ready for any and every kind of reaction. Her heartbeat raced as she took in a deep breath and began to speak.
"Koenma sir, for the past few years now I have been experiencing certain emotions for someone and wanted to ask you what you think I should do to express how I feel."
"You came to me for love advice?"
"Well… yes."
"Well, I think that you should just tell this man how you feel, but don't be to forward with him. You can never trust some people. So who's this lucky man?" Botan's cheeks began to grow a pinkish tint to them as she lowered her head to the floor. She mumbled her next words making it hard for her boss to hear what she was saying. "I'm sorry, Botan, but can you repeat that."
"The man I love is…"
"Is who?"
"Is you"
"ME?! I'm sorry, Botan I don't think I'm hearing straight did you say you loved me." Botan just nodded as her blush began to deepen and grow a darker shade, leaving Koenma at a loss for words. "Koenma sir, may I ask if you can accompany to a movie sometime?"
"Uh… Sure, Botan. What time?"
"After my shift tomorrow?"
"Okay."
"Great see you then!" Botan felt like she was floating on air without her ore even. This was truly the best day of her life. Nothing would make her more happier than she already was. As if she was flying, Botan quickly left the room. No that she had a date she had to make sure she had the right outfit to wear to their movie. She didn't care what they were going to watch as long as her beloved was there with her. 'Time to do some shopping!'

A smile never left the ferry girl's face as she continued her work. For years now she had dreamed of this day. The day she and Koenma would have a romantic evening together. The day seemed to drag on though, leaving Botan impatient; but to her it was worth the wait, as long as she and her beloved were going to enjoy each other company.
Once her work was done, the blue-haired girl summoned her ore and flew to her apartment to get ready for her long awaited date. 'This has to be perfect! I have to be perfect!' she thought as she chose her outfit and dressed herself for the big night. By the time she was done she had on a pink, spaghetti strap top and a denim skirt that went down to her mid thigh. Her hair was down and ringlets. She had large gold hoop earrings and a pair of white, knee-high boots. "Perfect," she said to herself as she looked in the mirror. In a flash she was back on her broom and heading towards the Spirit World again.
She was walking down the hallway towards her date's office as she fast as she could. She didn't want to run in fear of getting sweaty and ruining the evening. The door to Koenma's office was growing nearer and nearer. Slowly she reached for the doorknob and opened the door a crack, and what she saw made her heart break.
There in the middle of the office sat her beloved shoving his tongue down another woman's through. It was another ferry girl. Botan had seen her run by a few times, but she had never really met the girl.
It became harder to breath as she watched the sight before her. She had told him she loved him and this was the way he repaid her! All that effort and work had gone to waist. Warm salty tears began to trickle down the side of her face as she silently watched the display before her. Without saying a word the now devastated girl left as fast as she came. Her tears were now flooding from her eyes. As she rushed to her apartment she didn't even notice her friends Yusuke and Kieko waving to her.

Hiei was enjoying the comfort and silence of his surroundings as his slept in his favorite tree. Being disturbed was not what he wanted right now, but he never really got what he wanted anyway. "HIEI!!!!" yelled and all to familiar, yet annoying voice. "What do you want?" the demon said in a cold reply. "I wanted to ask if you have seen Botan anywhere."
"No, and I don't really care where she is either."
"Oh, because none of us have seen her for the past few weeks. Kieko visited her house a few times, but no one would answer the door. She getting worried and told me to ask everyone."
"Yusuke, like I said I don't really care," a hint of annoyance filled the koorime's tone of voice.
"Okay, but if you see her. Can you tell Kieko. I want her to stop nagging me about searching for Botan."
"That ferry girl probably doesn't want to be found."
"What makes you say that."
"I wouldn't either I was gone for three weeks."
"You never want to be found."
"You're right. Now go away." Yusuke shrugged his shoulders and left Hiei alone again. The fire demon looked towards the sky and began to enjoy the silence whiled it lasted. "I've got to find a new tree," he muttered to himself, as he realized that almost everyone knew where to find him. Slowly eyelids grew heavy again and he was slowly drifting off to sleep. 'I better not be disturbed next time or someone will have to pay,' the thought ran through his head as he gripped his katana.

"Hiei! Hiei!" whispered Botan's voice as she began to shake him awake. The thought of even touching this person struck fear into her heart, but she had to make a risk.
Soon Hiei's demonic, red eyes shot open; causing his annoyance to gasp in fear. Before she could even think, he kicked her off of him and she was pinned to the ground with the cold metal of his katana threatening to slice open her neck. Any slight movement and she would be decapitated ((AGAIN FOR ALL THE DIMWITS OUT THERE: THAT MEAN'S HEADLESS!!!!))
Realizing whom his thought-to-be attacker was, the koorime rose to his feet and began to glare down towards the girl at his feet. Getting over the fact that her life flashed before her eyes, Botan slowly rose to meet his gaze. "Don't tell me you came just to say hello," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasam. "Actually, I want to ask you something."
"Hn. Go ask someone who cares."
"But I can't I have to ask you."
"Fine! But hurry up I've got some more important things to do."
"Like sleep?"
"Hn."
"Whatever. Anyway, I need your help." A smirk began to slowly appear on the fire demon's face
"What's makes you think that I'll help you?"
"I'll get you something that will help you ignore the rest of us."
"And what is that?"
"Earplugs!"
"I have no use for those."
"Well what do you want? Anything."
"Anything?" The ferry girl just nodded in reply, and in fear for her life. "It depends on what I have to do."
"I want to be like you," Botan said. Her voice was shaky and full of fear. Hiei had to catch himself, so he didn't fall out of his tree. That was not what he was expecting. "What?! You want to me like me?!" She said nothing. "And why is that?"
"I don't really want to talk about it. I'll tell you on my own time."
"Hn. Well, if you really want to. The first lesson is: Go away and let me think." The ferry girl just shot him a quizzical look, and he answered it with one of his you-better-do-as-I-say glares. Soon she found herself heading back towards her apartment. 'Hiei, please help me just this once. I really do want to be like you. Then I will never fall in love again.'
