Prologue
When I was crowned Tuuli Thea and became Zane's Naga, I knew our path would be difficult. My people's reaction to announcing Zane as my alistair reinforced that belief. At the time, my lack of trust in my alistair served to keep me on guard. Adelina and Karl's betrayal brought us together - need and grief finally allowed us to move past the prejudices taught to us as children. We came to trust…and love…one another.
That was the day we truly began uniting our people - avian and serpiente - as one. And, with that unification, came about a new set of uncertainties. We worried about the implications a union such as ours could have, but our hope kept us looking forward…to the infinite future.
The night our first daughter was born, I wept. I shoved aside the avian reserve Zane so detested and wept openly with happiness. We named her Faith, to symbolize the hope in our hearts that led to the end of a war. Though very much her father's daughter, Faith used the reserve my heritage provided to her advantage.
I laughed with joy the day Willow was born. Her shocking red hair and golden feathers proclaimed the hawk in her. She showed no reserve, though. From her first hours on this earth, she left her emotions bare for all to see.
Our precious daughters… The epitome of our two people becoming one. My reticent cobra and my expressive hawk…
Watching my beloved alistair play with our children, I can't help but smile and think of the lullaby my mother hand sung to me once upon a time.
Never know pain, my dear, my dear one. Nor hunger nor fear nor sorrow. Never know war, my child, my child. Remember your hope for tomorrow.
Gods willing, Zane and I can continue our peaceful reign…and our daughters will never taste the horrors of war…
