Chapter One
The X-geeks have yet another new member. What do they do, grow them in pods behind the mansion? Lance stared with distaste at the group sitting around one of the park tables, laughing and talking. There were Scott and Jean (Bayville's most perfect couple), Kurt (wearing his 'human' disguise), Rogue (the little traitoress), Kitty (cute but too high maintenance), and the new guy. At least he didn't dress like the other goody-two-shoes. His jeans were worn and ripped and his t-shirt was missing it's sleeves. His brown hair was long, almost reaching his waist and he wore it loose and free so its red highlights caught the sun with each breeze. He had a handsome face marked by a tan that announced his Mexican heritage.
Freddy shifted his immense bulk, staring angrily at the other group. "Look at her, talking as if she don't have a care in the world." His resentment of Jean had never lessened and probably never would. Miss Perfectly-Natural- Redhead (yeah, right) was laughing at something Kurt said, patting his shoulder flirtatiously before leaning on Scott's arm once again.
The new boy did not join in, instead, he suddenly stood and stretched his lean body before wandering off. None of the x-geeks seemed to notice and Kitty began chattering about some new idea for fun she had come up with.
Todd looked back at the rest of the brotherhood from where he had been watching and eating butterflies. "'Course she acts like that, yo. She don't have no problems. None of them geeks do, 'cept when we give 'em some."
The rest nodded in agreement and Lance smiled evilly. "Well, misery loves company, so let's go get some." Freddy immediately stood up and Pietro laughed in agreement.
In a blink, he was gone. Over at the other group, a twister had begun in the middle of the table, sucking in back packs and books in its wake. Kitty and Jean cried out in horror and began to chase their flying homework across the parking lot as Scott turned, glaring angrily at the approaching brotherhood.
"Alright, Alvers, call him off."
Lance gave him a mockingly innocent smile. "Call who off?"
Scott's voice revealed his rising anger. "You know what I'm talking about!"
Todd stood and leaned on Freddy's arm, examining his nails. "Yo, if he knew, he wouldn't be asking, would he? An' I thought you guys was supposed to be smart."
Lance grinned wider. "There, you see."
"Fine, call Pietro off or I'll do it for you." Scott turned to the table, his hand reaching up for his glasses but the twister was gone. Looking back he saw Pietro walking over from the swings.
"Hey, guys, what's going on?"
Todd hopped over to the speedster. "Like, yo, Summers here thinks you were stealing their homework or somethin'."
Pietro sneered in the X-men's general direction. "Why would I steal loser's homework. That has got to be one of the stupidest things I've ever been accused of."
Those X-men not chasing there homework around the small lake were getting angry, much to the brotherhood's delight. Kurt's hands had closed into fists and his eyes narrowed as they met Todd's. Rogue was moving to the side, preparing for the fight and Scott was almost shaking in fury.
His logic, however, overrode his emotions and he kept his voice even as he said, "They're just trying to get us in trouble again. Don't do it, guys."
"Don't do what?" Everyone looked in the direction of the lightly accented voice. The new boy was standing to the side, thumbs caught in his belt loops, his weight on one leg.
"Don't worry about it, Julio. Just go help the girls get their papers."
Lance knew that Scott had not meant it as an insult. He was just worried about the X-baby's health. The Mexican, however, took it badly.
He stalked over until he was face to face with the older teen. "I don't think so, jefe. What do you think I am, a maid? I don't pick up after others."
Amusing as dissension among the X-geeks was, Lance was very aware of Kurt and Rogue moving to take advantage of the apparent distraction. He let his power build up for several minutes and then released it down into the ground. The ground began rolling toward the arguing boys in a wave and Scott grabbed Julio's shoulder to push him out of the way, but the other boy shook him off and brought his hands together in the shape of a gun. Lance laughed, 'What was he going to do? Arrest him and put him in play jail?' Before anyone else could react, a vibration went running through the ground in direct opposition of Lance's. The forming chasm met the rolling ground in the middle and they seemed to join together, shaking the ground as if the world itself was going to split in half.
Dirt and grass exploded into the air as Lance felt Freddy pulling him back out of danger, ending his concentration at the same time. The ground quickly settled once again and he stared over at the other boy who had been pulled back by Scott. Between them was a pile of rubble and ruin beyond what either of them could create alone and Lance stared at Julio fiercely.
Freddy grabbed Lance's arm and pulled him toward the jeep while Scott ordered the X-men back to the mansion, everyone scattering as sirens sounded in the distance.
That night, Lance lay in bed and smiled. The new boy, Julio, had another name to go with X-geek and mutant; soul-mate.
