HelloYami stepped quietly into his other half’s soul room. “Yugi…” “Leave me.” Yugi said, his head lowered.

“I understand how you feel.” Yami started.

“Please, just leave me alone.”

“Have you someone else to confide in?” Yami half challenged him.

“No…” Yugi replied, sitting down. The Pharaoh sat down next to him and laid a hand on his shoulder.

“Then don’t be afraid to talk to me. I will linger here if you need to tell me anything, if you have no one else.”

Tears collected in the boy’s eyes. “She was…she…I…”

“I know, Yugi. I’m sorry I couldn’t prevent it from happening.” 

“It’s not your fault. If I hadn’t told them to go ahead of me this wouldn’t have happened.” “What’s passed has passed. You can’t turn back time.”

 “But how can I survive without her?” Yugi looked up with his big innocent eyes.

“You will find a way…” Yami asserted.

Playground school bells ring

Rain clouds come to play

“I don’t believe this is true, Yami.” Yugi said, turning to him.

Yami made a confused face. “What do you mean?”

“This is just a dream, isn’t it? I’m only dreaming!”

Yami sighed. “Yugi, don’t lie to yourself. You know this isn’t your imagination.”

“No, it’s a dream! I’ll wake up, and then everything will be normal! Tea will still be here!” Yugi sounded confident and determined, but Yami knew better.

“Stop this, stop trying to convince yourself. You aren’t dreaming.”

“Stay out of this! I will wake up to find everything is just the way they were! I refuse to believe this is real!” Yugi protested rashly, obviously upset.

“You need to understand, this is reality. Please, I can help you. I can help you come to terms with things.” Yami said in a comforting voice, but Yugi backed away.

“I don’t need your help! I’m just fine. If I wasn’t okay would you be here?”

“I know, but…”

“I told you already; I’m okay. I know what’s real and what isn’t. And this isn’t real. Tea really is alive, I know it.”

Yami shook his head. Poor Yugi just wouldn’t accept the truth; that Tea was gone and there was no way to bring her back.

If I smile and don’t believe

Soon I know I’ll wake up from this dream

Yugi went to a corner of his soul room and squeezed his eyes shut. “I have to wake up! C’mon…wake up, Yugi! Wake up!” The boy spoke to himself.

Yami was moved almost to tears. Yugi was going to be disappointed.

“Wake up…wake up…” Yugi repeated, but found that it didn’t work.

“Yugi, you already are awake.”

“No…” Yugi whispered, finally realizing. “No…”

“I’m sorry.” Yami said in an attempt to comfort him.

Yugi broke down into sobs. “She’s gone…gone…forever…while I’m left here…left with only memories…”

Yami lowered his head but said nothing in reply.
