Disclaimer: same as previous.

It seems like a good place to wrap things up for this part of the story and well... I somewhat need a break from this. (And I know some of you are going... 'What! You took this long to write it and you want to a break! Haven't you had enough time in between chapters!') Don't get me wrong... I do like writing this, to a certain extent. But a break is nice... And for those of you who have already seen through this, yes, I have only a very vague idea of what is going to happen, and hence, the break. Maybe I shouldn't have said that... but meh. So yes! A break so I can think and rethink what I'm going to do next!

So please, no hurting me...

This is unbeta-ed so all horrible mistakes and whatnot will most probably be still in there. Please forgive me for them.

The First

Dark cringed at the loud "Nonsense, Dai-chan!" and shuddered when the loud squeaks of a marker scraped against an unyielding white board.

"There, isn't that better? Aw, Dai-chan you look so cute when you pout like that!"

The sounds of thrashing filtered through the partially closed door and Dark shook his head in sympathy. He was glad he was standing on the other side of the door and not inside the room. Daisuke had woken up after being unconscious for two days, and the boy was unfortunate enough to wake when Towa was fluffing his pillows. The woman had screamed, scaring everyone in the apartment, and pounced on the poor confused redhead. A barrage of 'oh my god he's so cute' and 'can I please keep him?' bubbled forth, and now, there was no keeping the woman away from the boy.

"And what are you smiling about, Vampire?" Towa huffed as she walked out of Daisuke's room.

Not wanting to incur Towa's wrath and bring about his second death, Dark steered the conversation away from dangerous grounds. "So how is he?"

"Recovering well, but I think he's still a little confused."

"Confused?" Towa nodded. "Sometimes he tries to talk, and realising that he can't is hitting him hard."

Dark's expression went blank. He knew Daisuke had been subjected to quite a lot from the detailed, nauseating descriptions Towa had divulged and this only confirmed how very close they were to losing the boy.

It wasn't enough to just drain their victims, the Leeches devour everything. The energy, the powers, the soul. A person's soul, despite the many faults and failings of the body, remained untouched – pure. In Daisuke's case, the youth's voice would still be present. And it seemed, while Dark and the others had been waiting for the red-head's power to kick in, the Leech had begun to eat away at Daisuke's core.

"Let's hope the confusion will pass," Towa murmured, breaking Dark out of his thoughts. "I don't know if this will be permanent, no one has ever woken up once the soul has been breeched. Even if the Leech was killed."

Dark nodded grimly. Hoping Daisuke's powers had saved the teen in time and no long lasting damage had been done to the boy's soul. "And the other one?"

Before Towa could answer, there was a soft growl.

"The 'other one' is fine," Satoshi gritted out while leaning heavily against his room's doorway.

Dark snorted. "You look like shit."

Towa tsked in annoyance and shooed Hiwatari back into his room with Dark following close behind. He didn't bother hiding the amused and smug smirk on his face.

"I swear you're worse than, Dai-chan!" The blonde woman firmly pushed the protesting Hunter into bed and tucked him in.

Satoshi hissed while pushing down the duvet before it started to smother him. "I'm fine!"

"No you're not! You're still weak!" Towa angrily fluffed a pillow and nearly threw it into Hiwatari's face.

"But isn't that what all these amulets are for?" Satoshi lifted the jangling chain of bits and bobs that had been hanging around his neck for the past few days.

"Yes! But if you strain yourself like that it's just going to take – "

"I wasn't straining – "

There was a cough and both Witch and Hunter glared at Dark.

"As much as I enjoy watching Towa smother you with a pillow – " The Vampire deftly dodged said item. "We need to talk."

Seeing the wary expressions on Towa's and Satoshi's faces, Dark bowed his head and closed the door.

"The Leech," Satoshi murmured before Dark even had the chance to bring it up.

Dark nodded in affirmation. "Yeah, and something else as well..." The Vampire's voice drifted off as a troubled look flitted across his face before it was wiped clean. "Can your people track her down?"

A pale brow rose. "My people?" A smirk. "What happened to the whole following the residual bond left behind?"

There was a low warning growl. "That's a myth and you know it. And besides, Vampires and Leeches are completely different."

"Oh?"

"Can you, or can you not track her down?" Dark bit out forcefully.

Biting the inside of his cheek, Satoshi pondered about whether or not to drag this out just to spite the Vampire. However, his better judgment and less vindictive side won out in the end.

"I personally can't," He gestured to the bed, "but I've already contacted someone yesterday, I would've done it sooner if someone didn't take my phone away." Satoshi glared at Towa, who smiled sweetly in return. "He hasn't gotten in touch with me yet."

Dark nodded curtly, knowing that he had to trust the Hunter on this because he sure as hell couldn't tracking down a rogue Leech if he wanted to.

"And what was that something else you were murmuring about, Dark Mousy?" Towa inquired, folding her arms over her chest and gave Dark a 'tell me the truth or I will get it out of you, painfully' look.

"It's none of your business," Dark said tersely.

Two sets of eyes bored into his skull.

"It is my business," Towa shot Satoshi a warning glare for excluding her, "and responsibility when you're still living here."

"I'm not your responsibility, and I don't need a babysitter."

Satoshi drew himself up and away from the small mound of pillows, trying to look authoritative while being bedridden. "No, but Daisuke is my responsibility and he is under my protection. So anything you do, I have to know."

Towa watched in amusement as a silent contest of wills began. It had been quite an experience dealing with an anxious and worried Dark, but it was always entertaining to watch two 'alpha' males fight over territory and mate. In this case, it wasn't the choice of mates, but rather the person they wanted to protect. Towa was never fussed about definitions, so for all she knew, Daisuke could be mate. She grinned.

"It's about my sire," Dark muttered reluctantly.

"What about your sire?" Towa quipped, getting an annoyed look from the Vampire. She shrugged innocently. "You finally decided to find your sire and find out about his bloodline?"

"Hell no! I could care less what bloodline he is!" He scowled at the skeptical looks he received. "I'm not going to find the guy just so you can say 'Ha! We're right and you're wrong!' to my face when I come back."

"You're leaving?" Hiwatari murmured, brows furrowed.

The silence that followed was answer enough.

"You weren't planning on telling anyone, were you?"

It was more of a statement than a question, but Satoshi wasn't really surprised by this turn of events. With the way Dark was brooding for the last couple of days, it wasn't surprising at all that the Vampire was going to disappear for a while.

"What does your sire have to do with your leaving?"

The question made Dark flinch, and he was annoyed how well the Witch knew him.

"He's here," Dark started softly. "Somewhere near the outskirts of the city."

Two sets of eyes widened in alarm. Unintentionally bringing another Vampire here was a recipe for disaster, and everyone in the room knew it. "Has he tried to contact – "

Purple locks swayed from side to side as the Vampire shook his head. "He doesn't need to, if I can sense him then he sure as hell can sense me."

"Then he knows where you are?"

"Hopefully when he's close enough to hone in on me, I'll be long gone."

"But you're bound to Daisuke," Satoshi said, expression grim.

"It's through me that he'll sense Daisuke. Hopefully he won't see through my masking of Daisuke's presence."

"That's not very reassuring."

Shoving the last of his clothes into the duffel bag, he scoured the now desolate room for anything he might have forgotten to pack.

It had been an hour since he had left an even fouler tempered Hiwatari and an overly cheerful Towa. He had winced and apologised silently when Daisuke began thrashing around in the bedroom after Towa had practically bounced in there. He could picture the worked up Witch trying to smother the boy with over-fluffed pillows and blankets. Dark winced.

He ran a hand through his hair. He still hadn't thought of a way to tell Daisuke about the whole 'leaving' thing and it seemed very likely that the more he pushed the issue aside the chances of him running off and leaving behind a note increased. But he couldn't do that. Daisuke deserved an explanation, one that wasn't a small handful of chicken scratch.

There was the soft swish of the door opening, but he didn't bother to look around to see who it was.

"All packed?" Towa inquired, leaning her hip against the chest of drawers.

"Yeah," Dark murmured, flopping onto the bed.

"Have you told him?"

He scowled. Towa was never one to beat around the bush, but sometimes he wished she would.

"No."

A slender brow rose. "Are you going to tell him?"

"Maybe..."

It had taken much cajoling, threats, and finally the brandishing of sharp, lacquered fingernails to get him this far. Now standing in front of Daisuke's door, Dark swallowed the rising need to run. Gods how he hated himself at times.

Squaring his shoulders and setting his jaw, he rapped softly and waited for the expectant clicks to tell him to come in, but there were none. Realisation dawned on him when the squeaks of a marker on white board reached his sharp ears. Daisuke was expecting Towa, and since the Witch didn't understand sign language or Morse code, there really wasn't any point in clicking.

He opened the door and Daisuke's head snapped up. Red, slightly glazed eyes stared at him in surprise, and pink kissable lips moved soundlessly. Dark cocked his head. Was this what Towa was talking about?

"Daisuke, you all right?"

Dark wished he hadn't spoken at all. Murky crimson cleared instantly and a devastatingly crestfallen expression fluttered across a too pale face. His stomach clenched and twisted. He was going to rip the bitch apart.

'I forgot,' Daisuke signed, gaze downcast as he placed the white board to the side. 'That dream...' A pause. 'I... I thought I'd never hear my voice again, but that dream...' A vigorous shake of the head, Daisuke stared at Dark in embarrassment.

Dark closed the door and squashed the rising need to roast Menou. He made his way to the bed and was greeted by a 'kyu' from With before the bunny sank back down into the nest of blankets Daisuke had created in his lap. The Vampire smiled fondly at the creature, and smoothed a hand over its head before perching on the edge of the bed.

"How are you feeling?"

'Better.' The teen fingered the set of amulets dangling around his neck. 'Towa-chan said she'd hurt me if I took them off.'

Dark chuckled. "She probably would. She nearly smothered Hiwatari under a mound of pillows when he did it."

Slight shoulders shook in soundless laughter and the Vampire's belly warmed with suppressed rage. There would be nothing left of Menou once he was through with her.

He shifted so that he was sitting with his legs crossed on the bed and facing Daisuke. Red eyes stared at him through the curtain of equally crimson bangs.

'Towa-chan told me...'

A purple brow quirked up in curiosity at Daisuke's hesitation. He opened his mouth to say something encouraging and was surprised to find several fingers wedged between his lips. The pad of an index finger ran along his gums and his insides shuddered.

"Rai?" Dark tried to talk without chomping down on the digits still lodged in his mouth, but he hoped to hell Daisuke was going to remove them soon because he didn't know how long he could keep his fangs from unsheathing.

'You don't have fangs,' the redhead clicked in wonder and stared straight at him. 'Towa-chan told me that you're a Vampire, Satoshi's a Hunter – I still don't know what that is.' A pause. 'And I'm a Witch.'

Cupping the pale hand, Dark gently removed the fingers but didn't let the hand go. "And do you believe her?" he asked gently, unsure how he should go about this. Trust Towa to tell Daisuke and not inform him, he huffed silently.

'I... I don't really know. I was hoping you could tell me.'

Dark winced at the hope swimming in red eyes. The boy wanted him to say that everything that had poured out of Towa's mouth was ludicrous, and all the little finely shaped amulets dangling around the redhead's neck was something to soothe the woman's anxiety and nothing more. And more importantly, that everything that had happened before Daisuke had woken up was all a dream.

At any other time, the Vampire would have been glad to lie to spare Daisuke the pain, but...

This was the right thing to do, he told himself, this was to keep Daisuke safe.

Leaning forward, Dark allowed himself to take in Daisuke's scent, purposefully ignoring how the redhead flinched away. Hands gripped his forearms and he stilled, murmuring reassurances to soothe away the redhead's tension.

Dark waited until the hands loosened and he began inching forward again, hoping that the heady scent of a frightened and very strong Witch was enough to call up his hunger. He didn't want to scare the living daylights out of Daisuke by licking up and down the slim column of neck, despite how very tempting that was, just to prove a point.

However, even as he thought this, the familiar tingle in his gums made him sigh in relief, and he buried his nose into the patch of skin behind Daisuke's ear.

'Dark...?' The confused clicks coupled with fingernails digging into his arms made Dark wonder if Menou had done this too. Unpleasant images appeared, and it took everything he had to not growl in anger at the possible things the Leech could have done before making the bond.

He took in a calming breath and breathed out a soft 'shhh'. Daisuke shuddered and unconsciously pressed closer, causing a pleased purr to rumble its way passed Dark's throat. A brush of lips and his fangs extended.

Dark ripped himself back, scared that he might not be in completely control, and gave the boy a toothy grin. His stomach twisted as the last traces of hope shattered in the redhead's eyes and watched the boy recoil in fear. Ignoring the sharp stab of hurt at seeing Daisuke's reaction, he bowed his head and was about to get off the bed when a hand clamped down hard on his shoulder.

'No.'

"Daisuke," Dark protested, but allowed the insistent pulls to draw him back.

Daisuke stared at him with determined eyes and once again moved hesitant hands towards Darks' face.

'You're not her,' the boy clicked firmly. 'You're not her...'

Despite how odd it felt, Dark willingly opened his mouth and felt like a horse getting his teeth checked. He allowed slightly trembling fingers to brush his gums, but wished Daisuke wouldn't insist on torturing him like this. Dark was expecting many things, but the pad of a finger ran against the point of his fang, he gave a half shout and flinched back.

'Dark?' Daisuke clicked in uncertainty. 'Did I hurt you?'

Dark shook his head, and almost wanted to hit the boy for doing something so stupid. "Dai – " He stopped when he saw the droplet of blood running down the length of Daisuke's thumb.

Daisuke followed the Vampire's gaze and looked dumbly down at his bleeding digit. 'It was sharp.'

Shaking his head, Dark chuckled and broke into outright laughter. He drew the boy close and nuzzled the sweet, naïve teen in mirth. Oh it was sharp indeed...

"Dai-chan, has no one taught you not to stick your hand into a Vampire's mouth? Here, give me your thumb."

He painted a wet stripe across the smooth skin, savouring the few drops of blood collected on the tip of his tongue and drew the rest of the digit into his mouth. Dark watched with wicked amusement when a quiet gasp fluttered through the air and red eyes turned glassy. He pulled the thumb out of his mouth with a pop and let the boy have his hand back. The redhead sat for a few stunned seconds before shaking himself and turning a brilliant shade of crimson.

'D-Dark... '

"I healed your thumb, Dai-chan!" Dark said far too brightly as he tried to redirect his own blood flow from his face. Idiot, idiot!

The youth gazed at his saliva-covered appendage dumbly and gasped anew, but even the astonishment and wonder was short-lived as slight shoulders slumped in defeat.

'I... I was hoping...'

"It was all a dream...?" Dark finished and tried to offer a reassuring smile, but all his muscles froze when lost red eyes stared up at him. Hesitating for all but a few seconds, he drew Daisuke into his arms and stroked idle circles along the teen's hitching back.

"I'm sorry, Daisuke," he whispered and he really was.

He tightened his hold and gently rocked the both of them. With joined in as well, and 'kyu'ed softly into Daisuke's hair while nuzzling the too pale face.

At that moment in time, Dark Mousy hated himself and there was nothing he could do amend that. It also didn't help that a little voice in his head was telling him that he was doing the right thing, that it was better to let Daisuke know everything instead of keeping him in the dark. If he could, Dark would have throttled his conscience and dunked it in a vat of hot acid just so he wouldn't have to listen to it and its advice.

He of all people should know what it was felt like to have everything he thought he knew tipped upside down. After all, becoming a Vampire wasn't something he had wanted to happen. So why was he inflicting this kind of pain on someone else?

Running his hand through soft locks, Dark dropped a kiss onto Daisuke's forehead. The boy murmured something incoherent, but didn't wake. They had talked for what seemed like hours, Daisuke pouring out everything that had happened to him while he was unconscious and Dark absorbing everything without saying a word unless it was really necessary. And when it was all over, when there was nothing else to tell, Daisuke was already curled up and on his way to dropping off.

The inquiring 'kyu' from With made Dark glance over. "Hm? No, we're still leaving," he murmured, tracing the bridge of a slender nose and watched with quiet amusement when said nose scrunched up.

Another 'kyu' caused the corners of his lips to tugged downwards. "I know I haven't told him," he muttered angrily. "But how do you expect me to tell him when he was like that?"

More importantly, Dark knew he would never truly be able to work up the courage to tell Daisuke he was leaving, but he also knew that he did have enough guts to just up and walk out. And that was exactly what he was planning to do now, death by nails or not. He just wasn't good with saying goodbyes.

"Stay with him, all right With?"

There was a worried 'kyu' but the rabbit burrowed into the redhead's hair all the same.

"Don't worry I'm not going to leave you behind, I just need to do a few things and we'll be off."

A muffled sound followed him to the door and he turned one last time and smiled apologetically at the sleeping figure. "I know Towa will kill me, With. And yeah, Daisuke will most probably be mad when he finds out. But he'll be safe."

Dark rummaged around the inside of his duffel, and triumphantly got out a ratty looking terry cloth to press against one of the nastier looking scratches Towa had decided to leave behind before he had pushed the woman out the door. It wasn't that it wouldn't be healed in a few more minutes, but he didn't want to drip blood all over the place as he waited for his skin to knit back together.

Giving the flimsy cloth another firm pull with his teeth (tying knots one handed was one of those skills he hadn't quite achieved over the many years), he looked up and was just in time to catch the cellphone that was trying to flatten his nose. Dark scowled at the looming figure standing in his doorway.

"I know you don't like me, Hiwatari, but you don't have to get nasty about it."

Satoshi snorted and wobbled his way into the room.

"And shouldn't you be in bed?"

The Hunter's expression darkened in displeasure. "Don't you even start!"

Dark held up his hands in surrender, which surprised Satoshi and the Vampire wondered whether he should do this more often. "So what is this for?"

"For when you disappear. I assume you didn't tell Daisuke, and I'm also guessing you're not going to bother keeping in touch either," Satoshi drawled, "So I"m doing both of us a favour."

"A favour, huh?"

"I'll keep you informed about things here, and Daisuke will still be able to keep track of you."

Dark's lips curled in amusement. "So this isn't just so you can keep track of me?"

"Oh, and that too," Satoshi shrugged nonchalantly and turned to leave.

"Oi!" Dark watched as Satoshi pause but didn't turn. "He's going to learn about everything. Towa's going to teach him."

There was no reply from the Hunter as the other walked out.

Blinking to rid his eyes of sleep, Daisuke ran a hand over With's fur and stared around his room in bemusement. How long had he been sleeping?

He glanced briefly at his alarm clock and frowned. He couldn't have been that tired, could he?

Shrugging a little, he scooped With up and carefully got up. It took a few tries and some concerned 'kyu's, but in the end Daisuke managed to stand on shaky legs and wobbled his way to the window. Outside, street lights flickered on, while traffic was at its peak as people headed home from a busy day at work. Daisuke stared down at it all, still a little overwhelmed to find that nothing had changed despite what he had gone through.

It wasn't that he was expecting anything to change, but a few days ago – he had to keep reminding himself that it was a few days and not a small eternity – he was just like everyone else. Normal. And now, he wasn't... He couldn't grasp how everything he knew had just up and flipped itself over in a span of a day, because surely finding out that he was a Witch shouldn't make such a difference, right?

He was still human after all... Or was he? Were Witches human?

He ran a hand through his hair and sighed. It was far too much to take in, and despite how much Dark had assured him that he would get used to it with time, Daisuke wasn't so sure he could handle it. There were far too many unanswered questions, and he was afraid of digging up something long buried.

Glancing at the picture sitting on his night stand, Daisuke wandered over and picked up the silver frame. His family stared back at him, smiling. It looked no different from all the other times he had found himself sitting and staring, but knowing that he came from a Witch family somehow augmented how he looked at the image in his hands. Not that he was expecting warts and crooked noses to suddenly appear, but...

Why hadn't they told him about this? There was a sudden thought that they might have, and Daisuke could've just forgotten due to the trauma and everything that the psychiatrist liked to tell him when he was still trying to recover, but he was pretty sure he wouldn't forget something like that.

He smoothed his thumb over the glass. No, they hadn't told him anything at all, and now he wondered about all the peculiar things he had experienced when he was young. There had been times when the atmosphere around their house had been thick with tension, and his mother wouldn't let him outside for weeks on end. That had been just before the incident had taken place, but even before then, his mother had always looked at him in a way that made him wonder if she was looking at him at all. It was a blank glass-eyed sort of stare and every time he had asked what was wrong, she would just shake her head and a strained smile would stretch her rouge stained lips. He could never figure out what she had been staring it, but now that he thought back to what Menou had said... Was she looking at those strange waves that he had seen coming off Menou? Did he even have those wave things?

His grandfather had been the same, although at times, the old man would pull him into his lap and tell him strange and wondrous stories about magic and potions. That was, of course, in secret because his mother would give his grandfather a disapproving look when she found out. But all the same, his grandfather would stare and never say what he was looking at.

However, his dad had been another matter. Daisuke could barely remember his dad, the man had been away most of the time, but he would always remember the soft smiles and hair ruffles he got when he was little. There was no strange staring, but a troubled look would appear every now and then which was a lot easier to deal with.

One of the most vivid memory he had of his dad was when the man had picked him up, and started showing him piles of ancient looking books. The pages crackled every time a page was turned and the entire thing smelt of ink and mold. He had asked what all the writing was about, but all he received was a secretive smile and more page flicking. That had gone on for most of the books except one. Like the rest of the others, this one was also ancient and thick. The only difference was that it had a decorative cover, whereas the others were just plain and boring, and when his father flipped to the first few pages, an elaborate looking tree was drawn. Daisuke had stared in awe at the spidery lines connecting names together in a complex web. The words 'The First' were written in an elegant script at the top, and his dad brought his attention to one particular name at the bottom of the page.

Niwa Daisuke.

Daisuke shook his head a few times to shake the thoughts away. If he could locate those books, maybe that'd tell him what he needed to know.

With 'kyu'-ed and Daisuke was about to reach up and shush the rabbit when he heard the creak of the door opening. Turning around, he was not surprised to find a stunned Dark poke his head in. He tried to smile and not let it show that he knew why Dark was there and grimacing like he was about to be sick, but Daisuke had never been very good with hiding his emotions.

Earlier, Daisuke had woken up briefly to find Satoshi sitting on the side of his bed. He was glad to see the other teen up and about, and was about to speak when Satoshi shushed him by enveloping him in his arms. Daisuke had never thought Hiwatari Satoshi to be a hugging person, but he hugged back nonetheless. Gulping back a sob – he had cried enough for one day, Daisuke mashed his face into the crook of Satoshi's neck and felt the a rumble of laughter bubble up his chest.

He had pulled away then and found a small but relieved smile gracing the Hunter's lips. Daisuke had returned the smile, but that quickly wilted as the Hunter told him of Dark's plans. Satoshi had apologised for having to tell him this and Daisuke shook his head to dismiss the gesture. There was nothing to apologise for, Satoshi was only giving him a warning and he was glad for it. He knew that everyone came and went as they pleased, but it still hurt that Dark was planning to leave without telling him.

And now that Dark was standing right at the door, a fresh wave of hurt swept past Daisuke.

'Is something wrong?' he signed, and he watched carefully as Dark reluctantly entered. With adjusted his grip on his shoulder in agitation, and Daisuke stared miserably at the large duffel bag hanging off Dark's shoulder. 'You're leaving.'

Wincing at the sad droop to Daisuke's posture, the Vampire shut the door behind him and dumped his bag to the side. He quickly made his way over as Daisuke started to wobble towards him and helped the teen onto the bed. Once the redhead was settled, Dark sat down heavily and mumbled the first thing that came to mind. "You're not supposed to be awake."

A rueful smile flitted across Daisuke's lips. 'I know.'

"And out of bed."

Daisuke mock pouted and Dark chuckled, but that quickly faded as both their expressions bled to nothing.

"Hiwatari told you."

There was no nod in response because it was not needed. Reaching up to his shoulder, Daisuke picked the white rabbit up and handed With back to the Vampire. 'Here.'

With made a protesting sound and Dark knew exactly how the rabbit felt. It hurt to do this, and Dark hated to admit it but he wished he had actually tried to clear this up instead of sneaking around the subject. But like most things in his unlife, what was done, was done. He couldn't take back his actions, or inactions in this case, but he would try and soothe away some of the hurt.

He reached out for his familiar and grasped the redhead's retreating hand. "I'm sorry. Daisuke I really am."

There was a wobbly smile and Dark ran his thumb in little circles over the smooth skin, trying hard to think of something to say other than the cliché 'I really don't want to leave, but I have to because it's for your own safety'. Despite his efforts, there was nothing that came to mind, so instead he shuffled closer to bide for time.

"Hiwatari told you why I'm leaving." It wasn't a question because Dark knew the Hunter would have spilled everything, and as expected Daisuke nodded.

'Something about your sire... I don't understand what that means.'

"My sire..." Dark hesitated and stared at the wrinkled sheet bunched underneath him. "The one who made me a Vampire."

There would've been an 'oh' if Daisuke could speak, Dark was sure and he nodded his head in acknowledgment without looking up. "Yeah, he... Let's just say he's not the most stable of Vampires, not that I expect anyone who live for over five hundred years to be anything but sane."

He inwardly winced when he realised he was babbling, and glanced up to find Daisuke staring at him in concern. Oh hell. Dark you dumbass, you were supposed to reassure the boy, not make him think you're running away from a homicidal maniac – not that that was far from the truth. Pasting on an overly cheerful grin, Dark flicked his hair back and tried to pass it off as nothing.

"My sire's just not very..."

'Stable,' Daisuke finished. Dark nodded numbly as he watched thoughts and emotions flit across the redhead's face. 'You're leaving because your sire is going to hurt you.'

"No, not hurt me, per sa, just – " the Vampire stopped at the frown he was given, and swallowed. Right, nothing but the truth. "Just toy with me a little." Red eyes narrowed and Dark sighed in defeat. The whole truth. "Fine, fine. A lot."

'Then why don't you stay?'

"Because he'll hurt you, and I won't let you involved in this."

Pale hands fluttered some more but Dark wasn't going to have any protests, he grabbed at the hands and held them firmly within his. "I can't stay here even with Hiwatari hanging around the place."

'But Satoshi's a Hunter, right?' Daisuke went back to clicking and he knew he was grasping at straws, but he wasn't about to let Dark run off and never be seen again. 'He can kill – "

The loud bark of laughter made Daisuke jump, and he watched with wide eyes as Dark's head tipped back and the Vampire let out another bray of chuckles.

"Oh Dai-chan." Dark wiped the moisture from the corners of his eyes. "I haven't personally seen the Hunter in action, and I'm not trying to brag or anything, but I doubt he's strong enough to kill that bastard." Daisuke opened his mouth to protest but Dark wasn't about to be interrupted until he was done making things very clear. "And I know you mean well, Daisuke. I really do, but I can't stay here knowing that asshole will eventually figure out that we're bound by blood."

'You're not coming back?'

"I'll try," Dark said solemnly, "When he gets away from here and moves to somewhere far far away, I'll come back."

Daisuke nodded after a few seconds of hesitation and squeezed the other hands.

'I'll hold you to that, Dark. I'll hold you to that.'

Rushing down the flight of stairs, Daisuke pulled his bag back up his shoulder and leapt off the last three steps. He landed on wobbly legs but managed to rush out the main gate of the apartment building. He hoped to hell he made it to his lecture on time, and his brows instantly drew together into a scowl. Damn Dark for ringing late last night.

It had been several weeks since the Vampire had left, and the apartment was just a little too quiet for Daisuke's comfort. But he could overlook it at times when Towa came for lessons and the place didn't feel quite as empty.

Shaking the thoughts free before it ruined his morning, Daisuke looked twice before running across the road and ran straight into a fleshy obstacle. Startled but needing to get going, he looked up to apologise and found himself staring into icy blue eyes.

The stranger smiled, long blonde hair waving in the breeze and Daisuke felt the heat flooding his face. God what was wrong with him this morning? He bowed deeply in apology and continued on his way, all the while feeling his neck prickle in warning and hearing the soft whispered words of the stranger.

"It's quite all right, Niwa Daisuke."

- The end for now -

Author's note: Yes, I know it's very cliché to have Dark leave to keep Daisuke safe, blah blah. But -shrugs- I can't help it! Don't hurt me for that... -whimpers-

And... that's it! I don't know when the next part will come out, and I still have no idea what name I'm going to give it. But um... don't worry? There is one scene I really want to write and hopefully that would be enough motivation to get me writing the rest of it.

Thank you for reading!
