Goku's Uncertainty
Goku watched the sun rose from behind the mountains. He felt contented and a huge smile was on his face as he watched in awe the beautiful sight. The sun reminded him of the time he had been imprisoned on a mountain, where he had spent the days yearning for a glimpse of the bright sun. But what he got in the end was shinier than the sun he hoped for. He got an exciting life with three of the most interesting characters in the world by his side.
Sanzo – the blond hair monk with clear violet eyes who rescued him. Goku would always regard him as his very own sun and will stay devoted to monk till the end of time. He loved Sanzo dearly but the monk seemed not to care.
Gojyo – the irritating erokappa with crimson hair and wine red eyes. Goku knew he and Gojyo could never pass by a day without fighting but his affections for the tall young man ran deep, though he never showed it.
Hakkai – the smiling man with beautiful face. Sanzo was beautiful too, but he was always frowning. Hakkai, on the other hand, was always ready with a smile and encouraging words. He was the caretaker of the group. But for Goku…he was more than that.
"Daijobu desu ka? You hardly touch your food," a concerned Hakkai asked.
Goku looked up, startled. He did not realize he was not eating well. But as usual, it was always Hakkai who noticed the little things. Goku was not surprised.
"Oi, bakasaru…I'll finish up your food!" Gojyo threatened.
"Stop calling me a monkey!" Goku lashed out and stormed off. The other three were shocked. What was wrong with Goku?
"Tsk, tsk! Gojyo…" Hakkai sighed heavily. He stood up and went off after Goku.
Goku sat on a rock in a nearby field. He sat staring at the spread of flowers. Ah, these were the times where he felt overwhelmed by strange feelings brewing inside of him. He did not understand it and figured he would never understand it. Goku let out a huge sigh and realized he was hungry. "Aww…haraheta!"
"Then why didn't you eat just now?"
Turning, Goku saw Hakkai looking at him with the ever pleasant smile. He gulped and hung his head. "I don't know."
Hakkai was puzzled. He draped an arm around the young boy's shoulder and felt Goku tensed. "What's wrong, Goku? This is not like you!"
Goku remained quiet. He suddenly felt very tensed when Hakkai put his arm around him. He could smell the soapy scent radiating from the emerald eyed man and felt his heart fluttering. Why was he experiencing such feelings? He felt so uncertain.
"Ne, Hakkai…"
"Yes?"
Goku wondered what he should say. "Hakkai…arigato for taking care of me! I appreciate it. I care for Sanzo so much but he was mostly cranky. I care for that erokappa too, but he was always picking on me. You are the only one who treats me nicely and I really care for you. Saank you!"
Hakkai smiled warmly. The smile…ah, it warmed Goku's heart. He was strangely glad Hakkai was happy with what he had said.
"You don't have to thank me. I'm just doing what I can. You're just like a little brother to me."
Little brother? Goku did not understand it but his heart suddenly felt heavy. Why were Hakkai's words having such an impact on him? This was weird!
"Let's go back, ok? On the way, I'll treat you to some meat buns. How about it?" Hakkai suggested, breaking the silence. He felt bad for not being able to see through Goku's problem.
"Meat buns? Are…yahoo! Let's go!"
Goku ran ahead of Hakkai. He did not understand why he was feeling the way he did but it did not matter anymore. Because he knew Hakkai would always be there and strangely, that thought was enough for him.
"C'mon Hakkai…hurry it up!"
And from the distance, he saw the beautiful man smiling. To Goku, it was comforting enough.
