Remus checked the Muggle watch Sirius had gotten him. It was nearly time. Remus felt it was the middle of the night, even though it was only 8:00. Remus tried to remember when he last got a good night's sleep, then gave it up. There was no point to it. He neatly stacked the papers he was reading, streched, then got up to comb his hair. It was to be a casual dinner, but Remus felt he wanted to look better, for some reason. He looked critically at himself (and his grey hairs) in the mirror before going to look for Tonks in the kitchen.

Her hair was down to her shoulders, black, shiny and straight. She was a few inches shorter, her lips were redder, her breasts bigger, her eyes brighter, and she was wearing a tight black Muggle dress... but it was still unmistakenably Tonks.

Remus shook his head. "No. Go change."

Tonks blinked her now extra-long eyelashes. "What? Why?"

"I wanted to use my two hours of freedom from Order duties to see Tonks. Tonks, not anyone else," Remus said. "Go change or I'll go have dinner with Mad-Eye," he added in a teasing matter.

"But Remus... don't you like how I look?" Tonks pouted a bit.

Was this a trick question? "You look perfect, Tonks. Of course. Sadly, I prefer your normal state, whatever that is."

Tonks felt her heart drop a little. She had only wanted to impress Remus tonight. She turned around and walked back up the stairs, gripping the banister tightly. To trip now would be horrible. The only thing that could make things worse, after Remus' rejection. Tonks changed back her hair to short and spiky, making it dark blue, and changed her body to it's normal porporsations. After that, she put on regular robes and walked back downstars.

"Great. Let's eat," Remus said, walking towards the kitchen. Tonks followed him quietly. "What do you feel like eating?" Remus asked. Tonks shrugged. Remus regarded Tonks. "Is something bothering you?"

"All I wanted to do was make you look at me differently!" Tonks burst out. "Pay a bit more attention to me, that's all!"

"And you thought the way to do that was by changing the way you look and wearing tight clothes?" Tonks didn't reply. "Tonks, I pay enough attention to you. Trust me, you've got my full attention, all the time. You preoccupy my thoughts way more than is healthy, I'm afraid. And every time you're in my thoughts, you have your own body."

"Really?" Tonks asked softly. "Really really. Come here," Remus gave Tonks a half hug, kissing the top of her head. "Now, I'd really like to make you dinner and share some conversation, if that's all right with you?"

"Perfectly fine, Remus." Tonks said, then grinned mischeifosly. "Only if it's something quick, though. We don't want to use up all our time on eating, do we?"

notes: erg. The end seems so... I dunno. out of place and NOT the end. ::shrug::
