Authors notes: After finding out than FFN has finally added a Bill section, I thought I'd write a short fic based around the last episode and this is my first The Bill fic after many LB fics and a number of ER ones. After starting this fic, I've realised it's going to be another one of my depressing stories, I apologise in advance. Also, I don't remember the last episode word-for-word, so I'm writing it in my own words. It is very similar to the scene in the episode, but the scene is set, feelings are described and different things are said...
Summary: Based on 2ND October 2003, Mickey sits alone in the cemetery, before being joined by a certain DCI. PLEASE READ AND REVIEW!
Silence.
Away from the busy London streets and within a small cemetery on the East end of London, nothing could be heard but the rustling of the crisp late-Summer, early-Autumn leaves, which fell from the trees, leaving a golden brown blanket on the damp grass, which crunched, beneath all feet that walked over them.
Mickey sat still, his knees up to his chest as he sat in front of his mother's grave. He missed her, he missed her more than he expected he would. The two of them were very close, even though his work schedule meant he didn't see her that often.
He was alone and he was thankful for that. Smithy had over stepped the mark before. Who was he to tell Ramani his business? For all he knew, he was probably the station's main topic of conversation by now.
The fact that it was silent and that he was alone, did make Mickey think as he tried his best to make sense of what happened the night before, as well as whether he would ever reveal all or if he would keep it all bottled up.
As a Police Officer, he was all for shopping evil bastards like Delaney, but as a victim, but not just any victim - a Detective Constable who was over-powered by another man, he felt disgusted with himself. As well as humiliated, knowing that Smithy, and most probably, others knew what happened.
A single tear rolled down his tear-stained left cheek. He was viciously attacked and raped and all Jack could do was harp on about how he had allowed Delaney to get away and how he put his beloved Rachel in danger.
The thought of Jack's reaction made Mickey feel nauseous, he was angry at him. But somehow the extent of his anger was stopped somewhere. He knew that Jack wasn't to know what happened, and to be truthful, Mickey was more appauled with himself for 'letting' it happen.
The silence and his thoughts were interrupted by foot steps, then a male Yorkshire accent, "Mickey..."
Mickey glanced sideways for a split-second acknowledging Jack Meadows, before his before constand stare fixed on his mother's grave yet again.
"Can I...?" Jack asked slowly, referring to the ground, as to whether Mickey actually wanted him there, or if he still wanted to be alone.
Mickey nodded slightly, as Jack sat down.
"Smithy - he told you didn't 'e?" Mickey asked quietly, as he glanced sideways at Jack.
"He was worried Mickey and so am I," Jack stated, as he looked at Mickey's distraught ridden face.
A large scrape was still very visible on Mickey's forehead, where Delaney hit him with a large object and his face was bright red, where he just couldn't control his emotions even though he tried so hard.
"I told 'im not to say anything," Mickey muttered, as his eyes lowered to the ground. "I told him..." He bit his lip hard, he wasn't going to cry in front of the DCI. But as hard as he tried, the dreaded tears began to fall and continued rolling down his cheeks as he remained silent, not saying anything at all to Jack.
"I should have stopped him," Mickey spoke up, after nearly five minutes of silence, as he angrily brushed the tears away with the sleeves of his top. "I should have stopped him!"
"Delaney?" Jack asked, almost at a whisper. He knew fully well who Mickey meant, but he somehow needed confirmation.
Even the mention of the bloke's name made Mickey feel physically sick inside.
Mickey nodded, "...But I couldn't," he squeeked, "He tied me up and..." Mickey closed his eyes and placed his hands over his mouth and as Jack placed a sympathetic hand on Mickey's shoulder, he broke down.
During the shift, when any man had invaded Mickey's personal space, he had clammed up and had become noticably uncomfortable. But Mickey trusted Jack. He was a father figure, even though he wouldn't admit that to anyone, especially Jack who knew deep down, but excused it to the fact that Mickey never knew his father.
Mickey's face laid on Jack's shoulder and his tears stained Jack's shirt. As Mickey revealed over and over again that he was infact raped, Meadows couldn't help but feel the guilt. He had given Mickey a hard time earlier on in the day, regarding Delaney getting away, which now, when he thought about it, probably made the current situation a lot worse.
"We'll get him, I promise you, we'll get him..."
