I never imagined
you had so much
strength in you
I would have
never guessed
that you would turn
out to be the hero
who looked oppression
in the eye and spat
it was you
who stood tall for us
when we crouched
in the shadows
when we were afraid
you were brave for us
when we needed
a hope to hang on to
and something to
believe in
you were there
you were always there for us
yet we treated you
like crap
I never thought I’d
see a day I didn’t loathe
or a night I didn’t cry
myself to sleep
but you shone through
and helped us see better days
