Two years had passed since Inuyasha and Kagome had arrived at the lagoon. They had assimilated into modern life quite well. They loved the wilderness though so had found an occupation that meshed with their passion.
"Please, Inuyasha, let me drive!" Kagome begged as she fought her husband for the keys to the jeep.
"No way! Last time you drove I ended up in a coma for a week!"
"That's because you weren't wearing your seat belt. How can I improve if I never get to drive?"
"You can't drive a stick and you don't need to learn because I'm driving."
"Fine." Kagome sat in the passenger seat with a frown upon her face.
Inuyasha triumphantly placed himself behind the wheel and started the engine to their new jeep. Kagome's last attempt to drive had totaled their previous jeep and landed Inuyasha in the hospital.
"So where are we going again?" Inuyasha asked.
"I can't believe you. You want to drive and don't even know where we are going!"
"Kagome, I don't care how much you beg; you are not getting behind this wheel again. Now tell me where our destination is."
"We need to head to Vermont. That's where the grey wolf population lives that we will be observing."
"Thank you. Now, explain to me again what the big deal about these wolves are?"
"As of last year, the grey wolves were down graded from the endangered species level to the threatened status. As a result, they are no longer protected under Nixon's Endangered Species Act. So National Geographic wants us to do a spread about them so that the public realizes their situation." Kagome informed her partner.
"Okay. Perhaps I should ask why you have agreed to this then."
"There are some hunters that are beginning to take advantage of the situation. I heard rumor that there is a wolf expert up north in Vermont that has been dealing with the ruthless hunters and I wanted to help." Kagome answered.
"Still a Ranger at heart, aren't we?" Inuyasha teased as he glanced at her while taking his eyes off the road for a second.
"Can we listen to some music?" Kagome asked after the two had been driving for nearly an hour in boredom. It wasn't as if the two didn't have a wonderful time together, but there really wasn't much to talk about.
"Yeah, just as long as it's not some of that girly crap you like to listen to." Inuyasha allowed.
Kagome began to shuffle through the compact discs she had under her seat and found one that caused her face to light up in a smile. It was one of those dangerous smiles that Inuyasha had grown weary of. She popped the c.d. into the player and started it.
Suddenly the lyrics of "I'm just a Girl" by No Doubt filled the air. Inuyasha quickly turned off the c.d. player and cast Kagome a fixed look.
"We are NOT listening to angry girl music."
"It's not. It's No Doubt. There are mostly guys in that band."
Inuyasha snatched the c.d. selection from Kagome's grasp and began to fumble through them while driving. He pulled one out with a wicked grin and popped it into the drive while tossing No Doubt into the backseat.
Now the lyrics of Red Hot Chili Peppers began. "What I got you gotta give it your momma, what I got you get it put in you, flowing with the feeling don't stop continue." Inuyasha sang along much to Kagome's annoyance.
"Baka!" She ejected the c.d. and hit him upside the head with it. "I will not listen to those men talking about 'putting it in you' and besides you were jacking up the words."
"Fine."
"Fine."
The two traveled in more silence. Kagome once again shuffled through the collection of c.d.'s and found one she believed would meet both of their approval.
The two enjoyed the rest of the ride in the blissful sounds of Aerosmith.

Two day's later and a long night at the hotel, our favorite couple arrived at the café where they were to meet the wolf expert.
"Do you think this guy knows his stuff?" Inuyasha asked as he stole some food off of Kagome's plate. She didn't mind. He always seemed to like whatever it is that she ordered. It didn't matter what he ordered, he always preferred to eat her food.
"Probably. Our contacts for National Geographic are reliable. They said he is the best and I don't doubt it. I think that may be him over there."
Inuyasha turned around and followed her gaze. He heard a familiar voice arguing with the hostess.
"Woman, I don't need your sass. Just tell me where the Hitomis are." The masculine voice demanded.
Apparently the hostess agreed and began to lead him towards the couple.
The man stopped dead in his tracks and stared at the two. The two stared right back at him. Surprise was etched over all their faces.
"Kagome?" The man questioned searching her eyes for the answer while he appeared to be sniffing the air. "Inuyasha?" He inquired after a few sniffs.
"Kouga?" Inuyasha and Kagome both asked in unison.
The wolf youkai grinned broadly. He couldn't believe it! After so many centuries Kagome was back in his life. Oh yeah, and Inuyasha was okay too. Quickly he rushed to Kagome's side and enveloped her into a crushing hug. Then he turned towards Inuyasha who became angry and pulled him into the hug as well.
"I can't believe I found you guys." He whispered emotionally choked. He straightened up and regained his dignity and glared at the hostess. "You can leave now." Dutifully she left afraid of the silent threat behind his icy blue eyes.
"You're the wolf expert?" Kagome asked as the three composed themselves and sat down civilly in their chairs.
"Of course. What happened to you two?"
"The Oracles sent us into the future." Inuyasha explained while holding Kagome's hand under the table. He was sure that her old companion had no intention of wooing her, but still he didn't want him to get any ideas about HIS wife.
"What happened to the kingdom?" Kagome asked curious. A link to their past had been provided. The questions could be answered regarding the fates of their friends. Did Sango and Miroku get married? Did her other self and Sesshoumaru live happily? What became of her family?
"Sango and Miroku got married. Since Inuyasha here disappeared, he asked me to serve as his best man. They had about ten children. Your other half, Kagome, was an inu-youkai and she and Sesshoumaru had a son named Toyo. He's still around actually, if you'd like to meet him. The kingdom was amazing and lasted for many centuries. No one really knows what became of the King and Queen. I became General of the Armies. Drizzt married Catti- bri and Legolas sailed off into the Western Havens. Drizzt later went onto the Western Havens himself after Catti-bri's time had expired." Kouga answered.
"What about you? Did you get married?" Inuyasha inquired. He wanted to make sure there was a woman to keep Kouga in line, just in case.
Kouga smiled at Kagome. "Yeah, her name is Ayame. She's pretty cool."
Kagome laughed at him and Kouga had a hurt expression. "I'm sorry, I'm not laughing at you. It's just that you saying 'cool' it's really funny."
Inuyasha joined in the laughter as well. He always loved it when Kouga made a fool out of himself. However he didn't notice how dangerously close to the edge of the table his cup of hot coffee was. "OW OW OW!"
Inuyasha sprang up from his chair and knocked over the table frantically wiping his pants with his napkin. Kagome and Kouga started laughing at him now. The hostess came back over their table and cast an annoyed look upon them.
"I think you should leave now." She informed them.
The trio left the café and headed to the hotel where Inuyasha could change his clothes. Kouga drove because Inuyasha told him about Kagome's driving skills.
After changing they packed up for their trip to the wilderness to observe the wolves in the wild. They spent two weeks in the wilds of Vermont photographing and studying the wolf pack.
Oddly enough, there were no wolves hunted during their entire stay. It would seem that all the would-be-hunters were scared off by the three nature lovers. As they began loading their supplies on the fifteenth day Kouga suddenly halted in his walk. He turned towards the two humans trailing behind him.
A wide grin spread across his face as he ran back towards Kagome and gave her a big hug spinning her in circles. Inuyasha growled with in inhuman resonance.
"What do you think you are doing wimpy-wolf?" Inuyasha demanded as he pried the wolf-youkai off his wife.
Kouga didn't release Kagome and instead hugged Inuyasha as well. Inuyasha was growing annoyed with these three-people hugs. This wolf really had issues. Just because you hadn't seen two of your best friends in centuries did not give you the right to hug them anytime you got happy.
Or did it?
Finally Kouga released the two. "Congratulations!" He announced. "Can I be the godfather?"
"Nani?" Kagome and Inuyasha exclaimed together.
"Well, Kagome is with child. I can smell it." Kouga smiled again at them. "Uncle Kouga. It's got a nice ring to it, don't you think?" Kouga began merrily skipping away from the shocked couple.
"He sure does act weird now." Kagome remarked, not fully processing the information she just received. Inuyasha soon gained her attention as he wrapped her within his arms and began kissing her relentlessly. Finally he stopped long enough to talk.
"I'm going to be a father!"
THE END!
