Blue

She stared at the plastic tube, hunched on the toilet seat with a hand over her mouth. The electric color glared at her, screaming at the back of her eyes.

She closed her eyes. Screwed them shut as tight as possible. Opened them warily. It was still there, plastered on the white - a blue line, faint but definitely existing.

She let her hand drop, let the breath she'd been holding rush out. "Oh God..."

A sharp knock at the bathroom door startled her, made her heart jump to her throat.

A muffled voice through the door. "Congresswoman? Is everything alright?"
