"How's Ross gonna get all them cans to market?" Jonathan asked dubiously.

"Ah!" Lex unrolled his map. "Here. The railroad passes nearby; the river's navigable year-round. Ross, and other processors too, could ship nationwide from this central point. There we'll build our city!"

"Pete thinks it'll work, Pa. Me, too."

Lex smiled up at the young lawman. "I appreciate your faith."

"Faith for faith, I reckon. It worked out before."

"This city's our destiny, Clark. We'll call it Metropolis."
