The Song of Truth

Chapter One: The Truth Hurts

Akaku nijimu taiyou wa subete o

The crimson stained sun. ~*~*~*~

"Trust me. I'm just going to get something. I'll be gone for a few hours."

Kagome's eyes glazed over with shadows blocking out any emotion from them. Lies. All of it lies. He wasn't getting anything. He was going to see Kikyo, again.

Sango, Shippo and Miroku knew this gaze, it was very common now days to see it on Kagome's face. They didn't blame her. Inu-yasha was a sick bastard.

"Trust? Ever since when did you trust us? You lie too much for your own good Inu-yasha. Go see that walking sack of clay and bones. See if I care." Kagome said softly.

Inu-yasha blinked. She wasn't yelling, she wasn't even arguing. Ever since he had started to visit Kikyo, Kagome had become more distant to him. She had closed him off. It was a feeling he knew too well, it was the same attitude his brother gave him. Cold and emotionless.

"Kagome." he trailed. She had left.

Heavy with guilt he sped off towards Kikyo's traceable scent. But no matter what Inu-yasha couldn't shake the feeling that something was going to happen and soon. ~*~*~*~

"Kagome are you okay?" Sango asked as she came up behind Kagome.

Kagome smiled sadly, shaking her head at the older girl. Steam rose from the bubbling hot spring. On days like these, she was grateful for the springs to relax her down. Whenever Inu-yasha lied to her it hurt badly but she was starting to cope with the pain. She almost laughed at herself.

"No Sango. I've been a fool for two long years. I can't take it anymore. Everybody is right , he doesn't deserve my love. I have to move on. I can't live in the past like him."

Silence pervaded the girls as they sat in contemplation. Kagome's thoughts wandered to Inu-yasha. Things were never right. No matter what she was second place to Kikyo. Inferior. Worthless. Useless. Maybe Inu-yasha was right, she didn't know what went through his mind. It was almost the end of their journey, besides all they had to do was find Naraku's castle and kill him, finally completing the jewel. But it wasn't as easy as it sounded.

Her deep blue eyes grew heavy with sorrow. Inu-yasha shunned her love. He didn't care. Getting out of the water, Kagome hastily put on her clothes and said goodbye to Sango.

She needed to get away from everything. Pain, the worried expressions of her friends and 'adopted son,' and mainly Inu-yasha. Her feet had taken her to the middle of the forest. There she saw none other than Inu-yasha and Kikyo making out. Kagome stared, devoid of all thoughts and feelings.

Inu-yasha broke the kiss to find Kagome walking towards him. Her eyes were eerily blank, soulless. Then she acknowledged him with a sad smile on her face.

"I hope you're happy with her Inu-yasha." She whispered as she walked away to a nearby path, which sat on a cliff unknown to her.

"Kagome!"

She turned around to face the hanyou. "I'm sorry but I don't care anymore much less love anymore."

Inu-yasha was shocked. She had loved him! He came towards Kagome with Kikyo trailing. He reached out to her when the ground beneath them collapsed. He jumped to safety and saw both Kikyo and Kagome hold onto the cliff for dear life.

He looked at both girls with horror. He then reached to help Kikyo. Gods he couldn't loose her again! But what about Kagome? Sweet, warm and ever- loving Kagome?

Kagome knew that Inu-yasha loved this! He had betrayed her friendship, her love, everything! Bile filled her mouth as she realized that he would never care for her, ever. Smiling up at Inu-yasha and Kikyo, she let go. Tears sparkled as she fell into the dark abyss of the night.

Inu-yasha turned to Kagome only to see her let go of the cliff-face, smiling. He saw the sparkles of her tears as she slowly disappeared into the darkness. Unknown emotion ripped at his heart.

"Kagome!" he screamed as he reached out his hand towards her, knowing that it was too late.

"Goodbye Inu-yasha. I wish you two happiness."

Inu-yasha sat at the cliff ledge silently crying. had been there for him from the beginning. Always smiling, always crying, always trying to protect him from his older brother. He had just realized that she wasn't only that but she was the hope against his deepest and darkest fears. All of it gone because of him.

Forever gone were the smiles and gentle accepting ways. Now that she was gone, Inu-yasha for the first time noticed that he had loved Kagome all along. Good-bye. That word, simple yet so painfully uttered by the person he would have thought to have never say it, Kagome. A permanent condition. Irreversible.

Kikyo smirked. Good, Inu-yasha was hers. ~*~*~*~

Inu-yasha returned to camp where Sango, Miroku and Shippo waited. He avoided their gazes.

Sango tensed. Kagome wasn't with Inu-yasha.

"Where's Kagome?"

"."

The silence hung heavy and contagious. Inu-yasha knew he couldn't keep it from them. So he told them what had happened.

"Good God. She's dead." Sango whispered as her bangs covered her eyes.

Shippo's heart hardened towards Inu-yasha. "You killed her!' he screamed with rage.

Inu-yasha flinched. Shippo was right, he did. He killed her. What did he do? He killed Kagome! She had given him unconditional love and he never returned it. No, he killed her. The only person who had even cared for him even if he had tried to her the first time he met her. Yet still she cared. Not even Kikyo cared until a long time. ~*~*~*~

Darkness.

Kagome felt herself falling into blissful death. She faced him with her arms wide open.

'Take me. Make me forget.'

She felt the arms surround her, warm and welcoming. Darkness. Forever peaceful death.

'Good-bye.' ~*~*~*~

Seido stepped out of the forest when the overwhelming scent of blood hit him with full force. He gagged as his eyes scanned around and fell upon a corpse of a girl. Her eyes were wide open and glazed. Blood pooled around her, a deep crimson stain against the young morning light.

Her death had been recent. The way her body was sprawled indicated that she had fallen to her death. Curious, he approached the body only to be violently warded off.

"Be gone demon!"

Seido saw a ghostly figure in front of him. It was a male wearing a black cloak with it hood thrown back. The male was quite handsome with stark white hair and black eyes. Death.

"I never heard of Death protecting a body. Much less a human's body." He said with amusement.

"Her destiny is not yet complete, but she's dead and so I decided to preserve her body until I came to a conclusion on what to do with her."

Seido then came up with an idea. "Let me take her and bring her back to life, granted with a few changes done to her." He said.

Death pondered for a moment.

"Lord Seido of the Eastern Lands is willing to bring back a human's life? Fine, but don't forget that she has a destiny to fulfill. Before I hand her to you, I'll have to extract Kikyo's soul from hers."

Seido nodded curtly. So that was what had attracted him in the first place, this girl had two souls in one body. How interesting. He watched as Death extracted the soul. The process was fascinating as a pink colored soul flew away from Death's grasp. The other soul in Death's other hand was blue colored and had a demonic aura, which confused Seido greatly. Why would a human have a demonic aura in their soul?

"Oh well. Once Kikyo is dead I'll have to chain her to hell. Oh and take this." Death muttered as he gave Seido the girl's strange soul.

As abruptly as he came, he left.

Seido picked the dead girl up and flew back to the Eastern Lands.

Author's Note: Hello everybody! I hope you enjoyed chapter one of my new series. Those of you who are waiting for chapter ten of Silence of the Wind, I'm sorry but it'll take a while for me to put it back up. My computer disk erased the file, so I got mad and destroyed it only to find out that it had a virus. Good riddance! The title of the story is actually from a title on Do As Infinity's CD single (I forgot what number.) but one of their songs is called the Song of Truth. It is found on the Best of Inu- yasha CD which I love!
