Destiny, Fate, Space & Time: Epilogue
But what of that which faces us head on
Makes us see things we'd rather forget
Makes us question everything else?
So I stand here before you
A warning to all those who'd listen
And I'll tell you a story
Of a man who missed this lesson.
He was young He was in love
He was just a boy
Seeking manhood.
He chose the wrong one
To give his heart to
And even now when he speaks of her
There is nothing but regret in his words.
He speaks of a world none of us know.
He came from the stars he laments
But was bestowed with feet of clay
Promised a future of glory
And left to a life of so ordinary.
He strived oh how he tried
To rise above his self
To claim the birthright that was his
And nothing ofcourse ever stood in his way.
Except for a girl no more older than him
Beckoning him to earth from his dreams in the skies
With only her chocolate eyes.
Now that he thinks of her
He remembers things he had forgotten then
Her eyes are now a reminder of the land he left behind
Of all he had never wanted when he finally realised
He was above this place.
He wanted to dance among the stars
Learn the secrets of space and time
Teach fate about destiny and follow the path
That others had paved for him.
Leaving behind the past
Forgetting conveniently what happens
When there is no one left to turn to.
He found a companion in someone just like him
Dreaming of a world that was so out of reach
And together the young lovers set out on a journey
That would forever lead them astray.
They left some behind Who willingly stayed
To make their own lives Their own mistakes
Their own choices
And some they left without telling
Fearing what would become.
For if he had ever known
That girl and the life growing inside
He might have reconsidered
But that is surely a speculation
On the mind of a man consumed by his on self
Who cannot know anything else.
For that was his calling
And rise he did to be
One mighty and feared
A leader and a warrior that none could compare to.
Together with his bride
He forged a path others envied
And together they tried
To create their own world.
Happiness and joy
Peace and serenity
Though was bestowed on them
No child grew between
And no innocent laughter could be heard
Only silent invisible cries.
For the visage of perfection was crumbling quietly
And even love could not contain the pain of the barren.
And worlds trembled at his approach.
But a distant storm was brewing heading soon their way
Because there were whispers already
Heralding silently of a warrior
With no agenda, no hidden reasons
A warrior on the path of destruction
With no savage purpose but only one
To meet the mighty king of the stars
And to ask something of him
That he would never give.
Oh how the king questioned
Every advisor he knew
Seeking out counsel from places unknown.
Always silence met his query
And no one really knew
What the great warrior wanted
Why he would choose to come
To a place of peace and happiness
A place of empty promises?
What a great fighter could want
From glass arms and flowery weaponry?
The whispers grew
The rumours spread
Like a plague upon the land
Reaching the far ends of the kingdom
Always the questions lingered.
Unrest rose
But even the stories
The legends that were building
Did not prepare the people
For what came their way.
Because she was not a man
Nor dressed in fine armoury.
Treading softly upon their dreams.
For she seemed to be at first
No more than a vision of perfection
A wondrous sight for all those blind.
But the fire that burnt In place of her eyes
Told another story
They stood there together
The king and his wife
With questions on their mind.
His memory stirred and he knew then
His grip on her hand was vise-like
And she understood soon
That her husband stared at his progeny
The clouds cleared but the questions remained
Why she was here after all this time?
What on her mind?
His lover stood so silently
Willing herself to stand her ground
For in her king's eyes she saw a sudden glow
That never before she had known
Even as she felt her own world shatter
And her spirit leaving her behind.
They knew now how she became
That warrior feared so much
For she stood tall and proud
Bold and strong and very much on her own.
And he stood there still with no reply.
For the question broke his lover
Dulling her senses
Leaving only her lifeless body behind.
Those words still remained in the air
A pulse in the eternal mind
Was the epiphany and stimulus
Driven mad by that question
He retreated in kind
And even as the wind blew their way
The warrior had flown out of sight.
From the path he had chosen
And no one knew how to cure
The healer of his own wounds.
And so with tears and much grief
They sent their king home
To a place he never wanted to go.
And when he did arrive
All he saw was barren desert
Mocking him still.
Friends and family turned to him
He refused them outright
For he knew this journey was his alone
And he turned away from life.
There the wind has weathered his tombstone
And an epitaph etched upon it
Asks that question again of him:
What turns away the winds of change?
What keeps the storms at bay?
What defies destiny, father?
What always remains?
And a voice heard far away
Cocooned in the arms of her saviour
Her child who gave up everything
Whispers quietly: Faith...
