You know what the funny thing is about the last chapter was? I had written it completely different and put it in a file that I hadn't read since I wrote it. So, I completely forgot about it and Chapter Ten was born. So, I took a the elements from that Chapter Ten and incorporated it into this one. And I honestly think it came out preety good, but who am I to talk, right? I'm just the writer.

Please review and tell me what you think.

Chapter Eleven

The flaming woman charged toward the group, who were lucky enough to dodge out of the way. Logan slid down to the embankment, the will to awaken Katrina strong. He shook her hard, but she only made a whimpering sound as she rolled onto her side.

Cyclops stood up to stare at his formerly dead wife. He couldn’t let this happen to her. She was good. She couldn’t kill them. He took a deep breath and calmed her name loudly, “JEAN!”

Unfortunately, she didn’t respond to her own name. But, that wasn’t the worst part. His yelling at her caused her to charge again. Cyclops pulled his arms up to protect his head as he waited for the impact. It never came.

He lowered his arms to find that she was hovering only inches from him, a green glow surrounding her entire body. She showed no signs of recognition as she looked into his handsome face. She didn’t recognize him. His own wife didn’t recognize him. It broke his heard. “Jean?” He asked.

She said nothing.

“That is not Jean, Scott,” said Katrina as she slowly made her way up the snow bank, Logan helping her with her footing.

“What did you do to her?” He demanded.

She slowly approached her own creation and stared in admiration. “I’ve turned her in the Phoenix; the one mutant who can defeat Apocalypse.”

The sadness was clear on Cyclops’ face. “Why her? Why couldn’t you just leave her be?”

“Because she showed a great deal of courage when she gave her life for those she cared for most. She showed the true power of the Phoenix. She showed what the power of love can actually do. I didn’t choose her for this. It is her destiny.”

“But, she’s not human anymore! She’s just a creature! She has no heart or soul. She’s only just a hollow shell,” Xavier spoke up.

Katrina smiled slightly at him. “I can fix that. In this form, my powers can’t be used at their full capacity.”

“This form?” Logan asked. “What kind of mutant are you?”

She closed her eyes and said nothing as she began to change right in front of their eyes. Her light brown hair was now a dark brown, her green eyes were now brighter than any color any of them had ever seen, her clothes had changed from a pair of jeans and a sweater to a green, leather skirt with a top that cut off just above her bellybutton. She was also, now holding a wooden staff that looked as if it was wrapped in green emeralds from top to bottom. “I am an Ancient, Logan. I am a protector of this planet. I am the creator of the being known as the Phoenix. And I am the only one that can summon it.”

Xavier stared at her in awe. “This is why I was unable to read your mind.” It wasn’t a question.

She nodded. “Yes. You are a very powerful mutant, Professor, but not powerful enough to break through the energy that surrounds me.”

“How can you fix this?” Scott asked as he stared into Jean’s beautiful green eyes.

“Just watch.” She spoke the mysterious language once again, which Xavier noticed to be Ancient Egyptian, which made the Phoenix turn away from Cyclops and turned toward its master.

Katrina rested her palm on the creature’s forehead, when a flash of light emitted from it. The Phoenix quickly dropped as the life was sucked out of it, but Katrina was able to catch her before she hit the ground hard. With her powers, she gently lowered her onto the cold snow and then knelt down to her level.

She rested one of her hands on her forehead and placed the other on her abdomen. She closed her eyes once again and began muttering once more in Ancient Egyptian. Jean’s body began to glow, the energy pulsating underneath Katrina’s hands. The green light once again covered the woman’s body. Katrina’s muttering increased as she quickened her pace until she was thrown back with a strong force, but was able to use her powers to return to the ground.

She looked at Cyclops and motioned for him to see his wife.

He happily did so. He picked her head up with one hand and rested another underneath him. “Jean?” He asked. There was nothing. “Jean, can you hear me?” Still nothing.

“It didn’t work,” Logan growled.

“Just wait,” Xavier said as he felt a strange energy surrounding him.

Cyclops carefully stroked his wife’s face as he tried to get her to wake up. “Please wake up,” he said softly. He leaned his forehead upon hers as he waited. He was surprised when he heard her give a whimper. He quickly raised his head to see her face creasing as she tried to wake up. “Jean?” He asked.

He couldn’t believe it when she opened her eyes once again. She blinked a few times as she let her eyes focus at her surroundings.

“Scott?” She asked in a whisper.

Logan, Storm, and Xavier stared in awe. They couldn’t believe what they had just seen. “Unbelievable,” they all said at once.
