Dylan smiled as he awoke; after all he had plenty to be happy about. The Commonwealth had been restored, peace reigned in most places, and the Magog worldship had been defeated long ago.
But it was seeing his lover everyday that made him smile, Beka met everything to him, she'd been there through thick and thin and he shuddered at the thought of life without her.
She opened her eyes, "what are you looking at?"
"Just thinking about the love of my life."
"Who I'll kill her!" Dylan smiled, knowing full well Beka was being overdramatic.
She smiled and kissed him, "we're getting closer to Tarn Vedera."
"I know its spring" he replied.
He sighed as he looked at the clock, "I better get going let's have a picnic on the beach after sunset just you and me."
She kissed him, "sounds wonderful."
The day passed slowly as it always did not being able to see Dylan for even five minutes seemed like an eternity. In one hour it would be sunset. "Hey Beka" she turned to see Trance and her husband Tyr.
Now there was a union that shocked everyone, everybody had thought she'd end up with Harper but that had changed when he began dating and eventually married Rommie. "Well Trance how are you doing? Its not the same since you left."
"I miss you to how is everything going?"
"Pretty good the celebrations to celebrate the reformation of the Commonwealth are nearly complete."
"How are things with you and Dylan?"
"Perfect it's nearly time for me to see him right now, let's have lunch later in the week."
Trance smiled, "sounds great."
Beka and Tyr quickly shook hands and then she was off, she soon arrived to find Dylan sitting on a blanket, "A candlelit dinner know I know why I love you so much."
Dylan smiled, "I don't mind the sitting its all in the company you keep."
They sat next to each other enjoying the warm evening breeze, but Dylan seemed more serious than usual then took her hands.
"Beka for twelve years you've been with me and I can't imagine my life without you, will you marry me?"
Beka embraced him tears in her eyes, "yes" she whispered, her eyes brimming with tears.
He slipped the ring on her finger and they shared a kiss that now held a new kind of promise. Beka sighed happily in his arms; it was a perfect spring evening.
