(Disclaimed: Neither me or Sweet Ruby Moon own Inuyasha. Sweet Ruby Moon does, however own the idea of this fic, so all credit for the idea goes to her. We will be doing one chapter a piece. Please review and enjoy!)
Sesshoumaru, take care of your brother.
These words came to mind often for they were the last words from his father. Why did he have to take care of his HALF-brother? He had a mother. He no longer had one, but he was old enough to take care of himself. Sesshoumaru had kept demons away from InuYasha when he was a child, but it, seemed, that the humans were more harmful to him than any demon could be. He could not protect him from humans. Humans were part of reality and if he sheltered him from reality, he would never learn and die miserable.
Sesshoumaru let out a sigh as he watched his brother talking to what seemed to be a young woman.
"Why, who's this?" Sesshoumaru thought in bewilderment at the raven-haired girl speaking so calmly to his half-brother.
This was strange. He couldn't help but watch the two. The woman was so lovely. She had skin as fair as the moonlight with a slight rose-pink blush on her cheeks. Her eyes were an amber brown and they sparkled in happiness and friendship, but also, they seemed to glow with hidden sorrow. Sesshoumaru continued watching this girl, not really caring to see what his brother was doing with her.
"I will have to meet her," he told himself. "When either of them leaves, I will go and see her."
He then realized something. This wasn't just a girl. She was a miko- one of the most popular ones, Kikyou! He had heard so many stories of her! She was the keeper of the Shikon no Tama. She was the purest of all priestesses. He couldn't believe his eyes. This woman, blessed with so much purity, was also stunning to the human, and demon's, eye. He held his breath as she stood and turned to leave the snowy-haired hanyou. This was the time.
She made her way through the trees onto the dusty path below him. He pulled himself down from the tree he was in, deciding not to jump down and frighten her. She seemed to have heard him for he saw her body tense up. She craned her head around and reached for an arrow in her quiver.
"The miko, Kikyou, I presume?"
She turned abruptly and held her arrow to her bow. The silver-haired demon drew his sword, eyes gleaming bright gold in the slight sunlight shining through the trees.
"Don't challenge me, onna," Sesshoumaru threatened, his voice a low growl.
"Who are you?" she asked, a dark tone in her voice.
"My name is none of your concern," Sesshoumaru said.
"Well, I wish to know who I kill."
"You are not free to do so, miko. You are bound by your own religion," Sesshoumaru said, smirking, "Of course, you seem to be having a relationship with my half-brother, Inuyasha. Is that so?"
Kikyou's eyes widened in surprise.
"You are Sesshoumaru," Kikyou said, "Inuyasha has spoken of you."
"Ah, you are correct, but you did not answer my question."
"That's none of your business."
"Really?" Sesshoumaru said, his eyebrows raising. "I'll make it my business."
His curious eyes turned to a fixed glare. "He is my brother, and my last promise to my father was to take care of him. I'm watching you, miko."
Kikyou, for some reason, felt a growing fear of herself. It wasn't the demon that caused her knees to shake. It was the things he knew, the things she knew.
"Now," he said, "go."
Kikyou turned and walked away, wishing desperately to run. She couldn't let him see her fear though. Never would she do such a thing to a demon. She was, however, inrrigued by this one demon, even more so than Inuyasha. She would ask of him to the hanyou tomorrow. If only she would stop trembling!
(Hey, Goten0040 here. This is my first chapter. Sweet Ruby Moon will take the next one. You get the idea. Hope you enjoyed it! Now, please hit that little blue button that says 'Go!')
