A/N: You know, I really thought I'd written silverprism her
payment fic, I really did. Apparently I've been lying to
myself. O_o;; Whatever I WAS working on disappeared somewhere
inside my hard drive. So I started over and got this puppy.
And then I found the original one and finished it. ^__^;; So
yeah . . . life is weird. And now Prism gets two little fics
instead of one normal-sized one.
Oops?

"A Thousand Years"

Shikamaru can taste barbeque sauce on his lips, but he hasn't
eaten any. Can taste barbeque sauce and salt and whatever it is
that is "Chouji."
Because Chouji has just kissed him. Just leaned over out of
nowhere and kissed him blind, kissed him and been the first
person to ever do so.
The first is not something you forget. Even now, Shikamaru
knows that this moment is one of the few that will follow him to
his grave. Like the moment that his teammates were announced to
him and the moment he first saw Naruto's true self. The first
time he put on that chuunin vest and felt, so secretly that he'd
never admit it, the faintest trace of smug pride that he had
passed. Not that he had passed over the geniuses of bloodlines,
just that he had.
Shikamaru doesn't care about much. His team. His friends. His
village, a little. Mostly just people- because he can get new
possessions, and the clouds will always come back, but people
have a habit of dying or leaving or other such bothersome
things. And most people, as far as he's concerned, can just go
off and die and he really won't be too bothered.
If Chouji would die, though . . . if
ChoujiInoAsumaNarutohisfather would die . . .
He can still taste it, on his mouth, in his mouth. And Chouji
is in front of him and smiling briefly.
His teammate. Friend first, then teammate, person whose father
has known his father since childhood. Person who without, he
would not be this Shikamaru. Person who is the most precious,
who he makes his promises to.
Person who is kissing him again around his own laughter, who
makes him feel the most alive of all.
Shikamaru thinks that he could live a thousand years and not
forget today.
