Summary: She would never admit this to anyone, but sometimes she regrets choosing God.
Siera sighed as she finished sweeping the cathedral floors.
It was another fine winter outside. The snow was falling gingerly on the ground and treetops.
She felt nostalgic as she watched the snow fall. It made her long for a Christmas which had happened over twenty years ago. The one, and only, time she had ever received a present. The first, and only, time she realized that her heart belonged to someone other than God. She shouldn't be thinking such blasphemy, yet it didn't stop her eyes from wandering over to the spot that he stood on that one winter's day. The first day in her life that she had taken off her cross.
Siera fingered the sliver necklace with the sapphire fish charm attached to it. He had spent a fortune on it, and had gone all the way back to the company that produced it. All for her. Despite how many years ago it was, she still felt a surge of warmth over the fact.
"And he was lucky, because this was the last one." She told herself silently, while putting the broom away.
It was twenty years ago when he had given it to her and that she had given him her cross. Twenty years ago when she had given her heart up, and it was not to God.
"Sister! Sister!" A small child called out while running up to her. His blonde hair fell around his face, his brown eyes shinning with happiness as he approached her.
"Manato, you shouldn't run in a church." She scolded him lightly. Yet there held not anger in her voice, she adored this child too much to ever be angry at him.
The little one only smiled sheepishly as an apology. He was no more than eight years old, and was nearly an exactly replica of his father.
"I'm sorry Sister. I was just so happy that Daddy decided to take me here. I haven't seen you in such a long time!" Junior chirped.
Manato Sawatari decided to make his appearance a few moments after his son.
"Junior, I thought I told you not to run ahead without me." He scolded his son gently.
"I know Daddy, but I had to see the Sister again. Sorry."
Sawatari just shook his head and looked over at the nun. "Hey Siera." He looked down at her necklace, which was gingerly between her fingers.
Siera smiled at him, her eyes softening as she spotted her cross secured around his neck. Their eyes met for a brief moment, exchanging a certain glance that seemed unreadable. Sadness ran through both of them, the feeling of unfinished business lingered between them.
The nun forced a brighter smile, "Hello Sawatari."
They spoke for a little while, catching up about their lives, and even prayed for Sawatari's wife to get better from her cold.
Then as quickly as he came, he left.
"Bye-Bye Sister! See you soon!" Junior called over his shoulder as he was led out of the cathedral by his father.
Siera just waved, ignoring the tears that were stinging her eyes.
As soon as they were out of sight, she wondered if she had done the right thing by giving up her chance at love for the Lord. She the closed her eyes and begged God for forgiveness for such wicked thoughts.
Siera suppressed a sigh and she sat on her knees in front of the large cross and prayed for Sawatari's wife to get better once more. Trying to purge herself of such sinful selfishness.
As long as he was happy, she knew that there could be no regrets for the choices she had made.
